Actors-Who's more than hype? The Hot Actors list got me thinking about this again. Everyone has their favorites and everyone has a list of those they think are over-rated.
For example-It's been said time and again that Keanu Reeves is a horrible actor and that in fact, he doesn't act at all. It's been noted that his acting is wooden and lacking depth of emotional range, so every character he plays is the same.
Who's the opposite of that? Thing is, I'm finding that, in many cases, I'm very much aware that a particular actor is in a role, no matter what the role is.
Michael Fassbender- Can't help but notice him...
Alan Rickman- Love him...love everything I've seen him in, but totally see Alan Rickman.
So who?
I think Daniel Day Lewis, Christian Bale and Meryl Streep fall into the Above and Beyond acting club. I'm firmly planted in denial

Him. DDL is that rarest of all actors - the shapeshifter. He's done roles I haven't even recognized him in - and believed him, every time. He's amazing, start to finish. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

So, would you say he is in this class by himself?
If not, who else is in it with him?
If so, who falls just short of being in that class? I'm firmly planted in denial

Daniel Day Lewis is an incredible actor.
So is Cate Blanchett, she's in the same league.
A lot of the old hollywood stars fall short of being in that class. Do to the acting style of the period. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I have to go with my lover-in-another-life; SCA-JO
Not just because she's so damn hot, but because she manages to play her parts with authenticity.
Alot of people I'm sure will disagree, but in both Woody Allen flicks I saw; Match Point and Scoop, she didn't come across as a one-dimensional "character" (I don't know if I'm explaining it correctly).
I saw her in "Girl With A Pear Earring", and even without the cleavage & makeup, she put in a solid & believable performance.
Basically, I'm saying that YES, she's more than the hype. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Daniel Day Lewis and Meryl Streep are on a whole other planet when it comes to talent.
One actor I love is Jeff Bridges. He's not a chameleon the way DDL is, but think he's amazing.
An actress I love--also not a total chamaleon but still incredibly gifted--is Stockard Channing. I'm always impressed by her. And I guess she is sort of chameleon-like...she was about 62 when she played a teenager in Grease. That's pretty remarkable. (Kidding! I do really adore her, though.)

Dude, you are blinded by the boobs. She is totally overrated. Wooden and awful, most times that I've seen her. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Jeff Bridges is underrated, IMO. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think I agree. I was very impressed by Naomi Watts, in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. I just thought that was a totally, totally underrated performance. Oscar-worthy. Don't think I've ever seen her in anything else, though. Actually, Anthony Hopkins was excellent in that, too!
Mia Farrow's very underrated. She played everything from mousey to brassy in Woody Allen's flicks and did them all well:

What do ya'll think of Eric Bana?
I was so surprised to find that he was Nero in Star Trek (2009)! I'm firmly planted in denial

Boobs? What boobs?
Did you see "Girl...Earring"? What about "Vicky Christina Barcelona"? I haven't seen the latter but I heard she's good in it. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Sucked as Bruce Banner.
As a sci-fi geek, I think he did good as Nero.
He was so-so in "Troy". By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

1) Daniel Day Lewis
2) Great
3) Good
4) Fair
5) Bad
6) Paris Hilton I'm firmly planted in denial

I love Denzil but I would like to see him do a comedy or more light hearted film for once. Other then that he is always worth watching.
As mentioned Daniel Day Lewis is great, as are other method actors like Dustin Hoffman, De Nero, Pacino (when not shouting), Brando, Keitel etc...all that school. They all have played a wide range or roles
I guess less obvious ones include actors who try to prove they can do more serious roles like Bruce Willis, Wesley Snipes and even Robin Williams can be great when he wants to be. Same with Mickey Rouke.....

Watts is worth a look in the slight odd film "I heart huckabee's". Speaking of that film, Mark Wahlberg surprised me in that film aswell, playing the role totally straight.

Vincent Cassel is not my favorite actor because I think he is smoking hot but because I think he has amazing range. I agree about DDL but I truly do not get the accolades plied on Meryl Streep.

Tom Hanks.. Never saw him in anything I didnt like! Pretty much the same for Micheal Keaton...
Cant say there are any female actresses that I think are incredible... ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

Going back abit, Claude Rains was pretty cool. Never an actor with loads of leading parts like say Bogart, but he always made whatever role he was in.

He was in The Preacher's Wife, and that was a light hearted movie. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

Ok fine LOL. He has never made an outright comedy though. Maybe he never got the right script yet for one? They say comedy is the hardest thing to do well so who knows?
