Ahh... Ok, I see then.
So really, it was just your perception of what was happening.
It goes back to what WetDream said.
So by that logic, if I saw a kid get hit by a truck crossing the street it's just perception?
Um, no. You actually saw a kid get hit by a truck.
Is it really that difficult to understand the difference between reality and perception? |

IRONIC COMMENT. This insult was unnecessary and can be considered "ignorance" or "ignorant behavior" on its own merits. Understand, nobody's trying to force anything on anybody; you have the freedom to disagree; but with all due respect please remain civil with those of us who happen to have "experiences" that are different from yours. As you can see I'm NOT alone on this topic...Far from it--it extends way beyond the org...This is not meant to start a war, I'm just pointing out in a mature way that the insult was uncalled for and let's agree to disagree.
Also, the infinite complexities surrounding life and everything in existence makes it impossible for science to answer everything due to our physical and mortal limitations--just to name a few. To think so is no longer science but religion.

This, again, will sound very harsh I'm afraid, but so many people having had "experiences" doesn't prove anything at all. If anything, it simply shows how a part of so many grown-ups is still fascinated by children's stories and still have the imagination of a seven-year-old. On one hand, that's cute and all, but when it comes to discussing supernatural, possessed ghost-shit it just become plain laughable.
People, try staying cool when dealing with "experiences". Not every "experience" and coincidence automatically means that some supernatural shit has happened to you. It simply means that someone told you about it some time ago and you were hesistant to believe it but somehow fascinated by the subject, and suddenly you think you found the great proof because a black cat shat on your doorstep.

I would also like to add that I do not have a good relationship with organized religion and am very hostile to most everything that comes out of it. Too much BS and not enough service. That said, I do believe in God so this is part of that territory, experiencing the supernatural. I do agree that a lot of the time the math doesn't add up. Sometimes it does.
Many people call themselves atheists and say they'd never believe in supernatural stuff. That doesn't mean shit. For all we know half of them could simply be afraid and are talking themselves into not believing in these things.
When people say they "experience the supernatural" they simply added 1+1 and got 3. They experienced something (they can't explain because they haven't read enough books or because they forgot about the probability of a sheer coincidence) and automatically assume and are convinced that some devil and god shit is involved.
I quoted the wrong post, because this is also sort of a reply to what PanicAttack said afterwards. Someone calling themselves "atheist" doesn't mean they are immune to acting stupid because they are afraid of something they can't explain.
I don't even know what to say anymore. I can't believe so many educated people don't realise how far-fetched this whole fuckery is.

Recongnize that these comments that you have made are based upon FAITH, PERSONAL ASSUMPTIONS and BELIEFS that you have no way of proving. It's impossible. For one, you WERE'MT THERE and neither can you INTERPRET someone else's personal experiences. It's a matter of FAITH both ways: you either except it or you don't. The ONLY thing you can really do is RIDICULE those who have chosen to share their "experinces" as sloppy thinking. Simple DISMISAL is really as far as you can go. You have no way of proving anything beyond relying on voicing your own PERSONAL ASSUMPTIONS and BELIEFS that these sorts of things have'nt actually happened to the millions of people around the world who complain about these thngs constantly. People who complain about these "experinces" come from all levels of society and walks of life. Even ALBERT EINSTIEN was interested in this stuff and got involved with SEANCES!

Again, these are comments that are based upon personal FAITH, ASSUMPTIONS and BELIEFS that these things have'nt actually happened to people--and you have no way of VERIFYING such claims beyond RIDICULING others. You BELIEVE (which is FAITH) that these things cannot happen, and others BELIEVE these things do happen because of "experiences" or "multiple experiences" and your rather hostile dissmisal of the matter doesn't change that. Respectfully, it is what it is.

I'm not sure what you're getting at and it seems like you don't understand my point. I have never said these "experiences" didn't happen and that all people who said they "heard voices" or whatever are lying. I am simply saying that "hearing voices" doesn't equal "sensing the presence of ghost". Before we can even start talking about spirits, we'd first have to analyse all the other hundreds of possibilities that may lead to people experiencing "weird things" (including their momentary physical and mental condition just to name one. Nervous and anxious people's minds can play lots of tricks on themselves!).
Another problem I have with your hypothesis that spirits exist and talk to us and that a board game makes it possible to talk to them is that is an "empty" or "unscientific" hypothesis in the sense that it cannot be falsified. If you have a thesis it must be falsifiable, or there is no point discussing it further.
Another example for such an "empty" hypothesis would be the following:
"The only thing that seperates living matter from dead matter is elan vital, a substance that all living being carry in them and which cannot be detected."
This is a "non-falsifiable" statement in the sense that whatever you find or do not find, the existance of this "elan vital" can never be excluded and therefore this would be an empty statement, an unscientific hypothesis. Just like yours.
