T-Boz Gets Her Own Reality Series

October 1, 2012

Link

TLC's Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins is heading to, where else, TLC.

The former member of the R&B music group will topline her own docu-series,Totally T-Boz (working title), centered on Watkins' return to Los Angeles with the goal of restarting her music career, this time as a single mother and after recovering from a life-threatening brain tumor.

TLC has ordered four episodes of Totally T-Boz, which has already begun filming. The series is being eyed for an early 2013 premiere.

“Tionne dominated the charts for years, turning the group TLC into household name, and her personal journey is as fascinating as her professional one,” said Amy Winter, general manager of TLC. “This series will open the door into T-Boz’s struggles and successes, and the people who are there to support her as she works to make her dreams come true all over again.”

Expected to appear in Totally T-Boz is Watkins' daughter Chase, her brother Kayo, cousins Barb and Chris, best friend Tae-Tae and business partner Tara.

I hate to admit this.

I mean, I really really REALLY hate to admit this.

This goes against everything I've ever posted on this website, and I've posted a lot.

After I post this, you will probably never look at me the same, but I understand and accept that.

I just hope that after I post this, you all will still give me the time of day, and not laugh every time you see me here.

So want I want to say is:

Man, this is hard.

That's not what I wanted to say.

OK, here goes.

Deep breath.

What doesn't kill me makes me stronger.

You all love me and won't abandon me for this.

Alright, no more beating around the bush:

I like the Honey Boo Boo show.

Yeah, that's the nickname of this 7-year-old pagaent girl from the "Toddlers and Tiaras" show.

The thing is, this family is everything you'd think a redneck family would be - to the 1,000th degree. But they really love each other, and they always seem to have fun.

Unlike most - well, ALL - reality shows I've seen, there's no drama on this one. If something bad happens, they just shrug their shoulders, say "Oh well" and move on.

I know I should be ashamed of myself but I'm not! smile

I know they're poor (what some would call trailer trash because they are not well spoken and from a rural environment), but as unconventional as they are (even with the 17 year old having a baby out of wedlock), the overall theme and message you get from this show is familial love. These people are a solid unit, and you see a mom, as much as society would consider her an ugly duckling, trying to instill values in her children, teaching them about joy, accepting themselves and living in the moment...and Honey Boo Boo has that rather creepy talent of switching from being a loud, free-wheeling 8 year old to suddenly becoming a very sober, sensible (but still precocious) child who ad-libs stuff you think would come out of an 80 year old grandmother. That child has an old soul, and occasionally it allows itself to surface when she's not trying to get some "sass". If anybody here reads Southern Literature it's kinda hard not to like these people; quirks, odd nicknames and all they are like a Southern Gothic novel come to life, minus the magic, hoodoo & sinister influences lol .

Yeah, I don't agree with any of this. This is very low level kind of "love." First of all, I adore Honey Boo Boo, but hate her family, especially her mom. It's not about poverty -- I've known very dignified poor people -- it's about low standards and ignorance. Ignorance is very dangerous. It is very destructive.

IF you love someone, you nurture them, not destroy them. This mother feeds her children all kinds of nutrionally-deprived foods. She doesn't correct their language. They are all likely going to get diabetes and who knows what else from subsisting on a diet of cheese balls for breakfast, mountain dew soda, ketchup-and-butter covered "sketti" -- it is all so heinous and ridiculous.

I don't think she's teaching them to accept themselves. The "self" is internal and when you manifest the self outwardly through sloppiness, poor health, bad hygiene, and a chaotic environment, I dont see it as a form of acceptance but as a form of self-destruction.

But like a trainwreck, I cannot turn away.... I am ashamed of myself.

I don't know! I wish I could blame it on drugs or alcohol, but I don't do drugs and I never drink at home!

This is probably Obama's fault in some way.

But in all seriousness, I used to mock that show in an ugly way around my house. But then somehow I got sucked into watching a couple episodes, and I was struck by the way they get along.

Or maybe because it's the first reality show I've seen where there is absolutely no drama at all. I guess that was refreshing!

[Edited 10/3/12 9:44am]

Well fellow Scorpio, everyone will view this show from their own paradigm, and that's fine. I simply choose not to judge these people based on their poor diets and poor language, or even their ignorance. I believe quite often when people know better, they do better... and well, when they don't, well, you can see the results in people like the cast of this show. What I can yield to this bunch is that in comparison to shows that present a richer, glossier, more upwardly mobile crowd, I've never witnessed any ill-intentions or ego with the cast members of this show; they never seem to take themselves seriously as reality show subjects, have a Come-As-You Are quality about them that I found appealing. There's no pretense there, and that was what drew me in, I suppose.

As for some of the madness that makes up the show, I think of my own upbringing: I grew up on a diet of pop tarts, Cheetos, kool-aid, pigs-in-a-blanket, collard greens w/ fatback, teacakes & Swanson's Chicken Pot Pies, and my mother rarely if ever corrected my language: that hardly meant that she didn't love me; I know that my momma would move heaven & earth for me if humanly possible, and for whatever mistakes she may have made against what is considered traditional or acceptable child rearing, she did the best she could with the faculties she possessed, with her love shining through every step of the way...and as result of that love I turned out to have a pretty blessed life, replete with loving friends & family, a strong spiritual walk, a pretty adventurous life on a global scale with the kind of experiences that dreams are made of, and all in spite of her ignorance of healthy eating habits and proper diction.

Meh. It is what it is. Some people will watch and enjoy, some will be repulsed perhaps and choose not to indulge. The last season of Basketball Wives Miami, for example, turned my stomach with all its' violence- and after trying a couple of episodes of Love & Hip-hop Atlanta I was left aghast at how easily infidelity and misogynistic behavior is both encouraged and embraced amongst a particular segment of single women today. There are shows out there for everyone, and watching one where a small child squeals over her first fireworks show (Mama, look! It's raining rainbows!!) is a lot less of a train wreck to me than watching grown adults berate, threaten, intimidate and in some cases, beat the living hell out of each other on national television. To each his/her own martini
