Everyone will have their own individual reasons for why they make the choices that they do in their TV viewing habits. While I can't speak for R.S. your question seems to be generally directed, I'll a take a stab at it:
Being that I live overseas and have no access to English language television outside of CNN International, I'm simply open to seeing whatever American shows I can find online, since quite frankly my life is lived in a mix of German & Italian, w /a dash of Spanish & Japanese with little chance to hear English. As much as I love my life in Europe and how exciting it can be, I still long to be entertained in my mother tongue, American English (no offense to my UK friends here ).
My day to day life can run amok with things to do, between writing, shooting, getting in that quality time with hubby, balancing home life with church activities, theology studies, social outings, tithing time on Sundays to care for special needs children; life is chock full alright! But I like to go slummin' when I watch English TV from home to take the edge off. German television, is my experience, is generally pretty highbrow compared to the US (minus the post-midnight nude commercials ) : television here essentially means endless documentaries on science, nature, history, every other channel discussing Goethe or devoted to opera and classical music etc, etc...and the news... it's always from a worldwide lens in terms of scope...but unfortunately completely uncensored, so when they chronicle daily war scenes and uprisings around the globe, you get the full monty with dead bloodied babies, people with limbs blown off and brains on the ground.
....so when I'm ready to settle in and settle down, I want THE most ridiculous entertainment I can find (sans violence or messed up behaviors from one individual towards another). It's my chance to shut off work, turn off the Wagner, dismiss yet another travelog on the exotic animals of Madagascar, and dig into pure foolishness for shits and giggles...and when it's over I just go back to the normal (often hectic) routine of life hopefully having laughed like crazy for 20-40 minutes beforehand. .

Agreed! I can't stand the "Toddlers and Tiara" show, or "Dance Moms".
But the good thing about the Honey Boo Boo show is that most of it has nothing to do with paegants. It's all about their Maximum Redneck Life away from the paegant circuit.

Poor T-Boz, she's so damn boring that a thread about HER becomes all about Honey boo boo chile.....

Love T-Boz, but dont know if I'm gonna watch this. When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix

I love her too but I'm finding the more I know about celebrities' lives, the less I like them.

Yeah, probably not a good sign - especially on a website whose occupants are more likely than most to have heard of T-Boz and are fans of her music.
But best of luck to her. If she needs a ratings bump, then the answer is obvious - get Honey Boo Boo to come on her show!

Agreed 100%.
This is probably why we still like Prince so much. We know nothing of his personal life, so we don't get to see all the warts and imperfections that he - like everyone else in the world - has plenty of.

Much love to T, but she is boring, straight up. I tried to watch her role in "Belly" but I was always waiting for DMX and Taral's scenes because Nas and T had me
