Bubble Tea Since people are talking about things to drink on other threads, I just thought of Bubble Tea.
Does anyone like it/love it, think it's gross, etc.? If you don't know what it is, it's an Asian drink (I think it originated in Japan, but you can get it all over Asia) and it's flavored, cold, tea with milk with these giant tapioca balls on the bottom. You suck the balls up with an extra wide straw. (that didn't sound very good, did it? ) It's also called Milk Tea sometimes. I love it and crave it all the time, and it comes in a ton of different flavors. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

These things are black arent they and you suck them through a wide straw and they choke you, but at the same time they are fun and exciting! I loved it!!! Wish we could get it here in the UK...What is the balls, tapioca? some kind of big balled rice or like Tofu? WOW! I am so glad you mentioned it! I want some now...

I've had it in Bangkok as well as in the U.S. and Europe, and it's been kind of different every time. I'm pretty sure it's giant tapioca pearls. Sometimes the balls are flavored, and sometimes they don't really taste like anything. I like the coconut, vanilla soy, and mango ones the best. Now I really want one! That's gross though that they're called frog's spawn tea. Now I'll never think of them the same again! It's all over the Bay Area - but none to be found here in Santa Cruz. I miss it.
It's reeeally good and filling but nobody calls it Bubble Tea. We all call it Tapioca, or Pearl Milk Tea. I mean, like, where is the sun?

AHHH! I'm fucking addicted to bubble tea, which sucks because it's, like, $3.50 for a small one. I like almond and green tea (without milk) the most. Oh, and I love those little tapioca balls...yummy. Sooo good. Anybody in NYC ever been to St. Alp's Tea House or Tea & Tea? It's the stuff of Gods, I tell you.
I want some NOW NOW NOW! GIMME! *slowly regains composure*

it's good shiznit! I had some around Christmas on the Gold Coast in Queensland...fucking Good shit. Mine was lychee flavoured...and it wasn't tea...it was more of an icy fruit smoothy thing with those tasteless squishy balls at the bottom....very Japanese...strange but Yummo!

I wonder if they have a lot of fat and calories in them? I guess I don't really want to know. Where can you get them in Mpls.? I've never had it there. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Oh gawd, you can get it every other block in my neighborhood (in Seattle). I haven't had the nerve to try it. I generally don't like my drinks chunky. But my favorite tea place has some that isn't made with milk (I'm vegan), so one day when I'm feeling spunky I'll go get some.

Hey, if anyone knows if you can get these in NJ or at one of the franchises, please post here.
I'd love to try one of these. **************************************************
