Your obsessions?

I was thinking about this, yesterday (I've been having some logistical issues recording Stern the last couple of days wall).

Thankfully, my obsessions are now few. But I still have some. Namely:

  • I must listen to every minute of The Howard Stern Show.
  • I must watch every minute of Big Brother.
  • I must see every new Woody Allen film.
  • I must see Bruce Springsteen every time he plays in Toronto.

As far as obsessions go, these are pretty harmless and I enjoy them, so they worry me little.

You? What are your obsessions? smile

Flossing. I get pissed off if I run out of floss or if there isn't any floss around.

So, I have 3 containers of it always.

My work enables my obsessive neatfreak/search for perfection disorder.

Strangely enough it doesn't manifest itself in other things like my appearance or my house for example lurking

I run outside if it sounds like a big plane is flying over our house (I know that every morning QF94 from LA comes in at around 8am and it's an A380 so I'm listening out for it) on cloudy days they fly so LOW LOW LOW love jet

I went on a diet a week and a half ago and I'm not exactly obsessive, but I'm finding it EASY to stick to it. I give myself 10/10 every night. I wouldn't drink the almond milk I bought because it was sweetened eek

If I have something for sale on eBay I'm counting watchers till I'm blue in the face dead

I'm the mistake you wanna make

My old obsessions all seem to have faded, as they do for most people I suppose. The things I used to fixate on (trashy b-movies, The Fall, Bob Dylan) are still present, but they’re in the background now, part of the ambient noise of my day-to-day existence. And I’ve never had the kind of pure fixation where I had to see every minute of a show, or own every recording by some performer – to this day there are Dylan & Fall records I don’t own, and I don’t feel any pressing need to fill that gap.

I have a few topics I follow kinda compulsively (economics, climate change, skepticism-related topics), but most of my obsessions are little daily/weekly fixations, and if these things don’t get done I can find my day off balance – mundane things like being out of the house at the same time every day (even on weekends), reading the paper, getting through a minimum of 400 pages of whatever books I’m reading every week, boring stuff like that.

-I have to leave the house every morning for work before or by 6:40am. If I leave even a minute later then I feel like I'm late, where in reality, when I leave at that time I get to work at 7:10am but I really don't have to be there until 7:30am.

-I have to use a clean towel every day when I shower. Some folks I know use a towel for one side to dry themselves and then the next day, use the other side to dry themselves. disbelief To me, that's like using a dirty towel to dry yourself after a shower every other day. Nasty.

-I must watch The Bold and the Beautiful every day when I get off from work, even though the show sucks complete and utter ass.

-Oh and I feel like something is missing if I don't log on here every day. lol

If you've used the towel the previous day to dry yourself, then the towel may still be damp which signal's "dirty" to me. It's just me.

I am like that about underwear. If I change my clothes or take a shower I always have to put on a fresh pair of panties. I was like that when I was little and had days of the week underwear.

Used to drive my mom crazy in the mornings getting ready and with each new outfit I would have to have fresh undies.

I am still like that. Living where it is hot and doing things like swimming and playing outdoors, I go through a lot of underwear.

I have a toddler that is potty trained and in big boy underwear and I change his underwear a lot. I am trying not to pass on my obsession with clean underwear but I think I might fail. Though I realize he is a boy and when he starts to dress himself, I am sure he will put back on dirty underwear. Eeeekkkk!

Won't touch doors, handrails or toilets in public. I'll shoulder barge a shop door open or put my hand inside my jacket if nobody is coming out or in.

Restaurants i check cutlery for smears.

I like winter so i can wear my gloves and not worry as much.

Public transport. Forget it. I cycle or walk and wear a mask in traffic.

I'm getting worse about this, but the general public are usually filthy.

oh yeah, I become a germaphobe on the backyard deck if people touch chairs, tables, etc. and then food that's being grilled in case it gets contaminated and then I start getting paranoid that me or people I care about will get a disease....when I start complaining about germs or asking if people washed their hands (and I'll do it too) I get told I'm being obnoxious and though I can see why, really it's me getting triggered by something

yes I have been told I'm OCD actually but it's not full blown either, it just acts up at times

Reading my post back, it reads worse than it actually is or appears. At least i think so.

I had someone sneeze on the back of my head on a coach once, i felt my hair move a bit. I had it all on just controlling my temper in that moment.

A lot of people don't like public washrooms and public transport, so you're not alone there, but if it's excessive to the point where it's giving you anxiety and keeping you from functioning, then there's a problem.

When those things happened in my case, I think I already had social anxiety that day or was lacking in sleep which messes up my moods and can lead to fatigue or high energy, and in a way, those irrational fears I have are just nothing more than a manifestation of that though I don't realize it in the moment at all and am seriously getting disturbed by germs that could be there.

When I use the bathroom at work, I not only put toilet paper on the seat (or a seat cover) but after I wash my hands, I use another paper towel to pull the door open so I can leave without touching the handle. I know first hand that our secretary doesn't wash her hands sometimes when uses the bathroom. I'm sure there are others, but I actually witnessed her not doing it.

Hearing a song until the very end second!!!! I dont care how many times I have heard it. All the way to the fade out..got to turn it all the way up just to hear one last speck of sound from that song.

This one is weird, but a guys feet too.

If a guy is barefoot on tv for even just a quick second I will rewind and pause and carefully study his feet...even take a picture if they are really nice. In person if a cute guy takes his shoes off at my house (or any house) I will not say anything but will uncontrollably stare at his feet when he is not looking..and I could do this for hours until I touch them.

I am obsessed with:

--checking the stove

--being clean (not that I always am)

--I am very particular about a million different things, even though I know my way is not always the best

--Likewise, with the placement of things, even though my surroundings are always pretty cluttered shrug

--beautiful women. If one enters my field of vision I don't have to have sex with her, I don't have to talk to her, I just have to look at her. A glance will do, but it's vital that I look at her.

it was sugar. i'm now un-obsessing it. feeling much better energy-wise in doing so.

as far as current obsession - revisiting the soprano series. (fodder for conversation along with popcorn).

i found and purchased the whole of seasons 1 - 4 box sets on vhs. at $1. 95 per set at my local recca stowe. [the nice price recca stowe]

i know, i know it's on dvd, but my tv room has both dvd and vhs players as well as other entertainment gadgets, i (for some reason) will not give up my tv/vhs player unit.

no no no!

Hmm.

I think I have very few obsessions.

Words and word puzzles and grammar and language and stuff like that, I guess.

And the obvious.

I think I'm obsessed with my own boobs, to be perfectly frank, and I'm not sure how this makes me feel.

It's what you make it.
