Iyanla: Fix My Life show (OWN network) Okay so the premiere came on last night...first episode was with Evelyn Lozada 11 days after her marriage to Chad. I don't know what to think of this really. I want to believe some things, but other times I feel like it may be fabricated for the camera.
Part 2 came on tonight which featured Evelyn right after she filed for divorce from Chad because of the "domestic" incident they had. She confesses to Iyanla that it wasn't the first "domestic" incident they had but wouldn't go into detail in regards to what or when the first incident was. I was with Iyanla when she basically told Evelyn that she should "thank herself" that the series with her and Chad on VH1 was cancelled. I put lol, because it seems like she's alluding that the series shouldn't had aired even if the events that transpired hadn't happened.
Anyone else catch this? [Edited 9/17/12 5:56am] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I had no idea she had started this literally right after the wedding. I mean they really were going to cash in as many reality shows as possible right? Then it all blew up in their face. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I hope they have the episode on the website because I wanted to watch this. She explained in her last book that she and the Mighty O were estranged for a few years so I wanna see how she handles herself after the reconciliation.
I guess Lozada is as good a hot mess to start with as anybody else. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I love Iyanla SO FUCKING MUCH.
I was addicted to Starting Over when it was on. I actually cried when it was canceled.
Her books are wonderful, too.

Well the thing I did like about Iyanla wasn't that she wasn't a Chad basher and actually called out Evelyn on her shit. Don't get me wrong, she pointed out some things Chad could have done better but I like that she didn't make Evelyn to be this "poster child for domestic violence", she pointed out to her the mistakes she made before hand and what signs were already there that she chose to ignore. Bottom line is what most of us already figured out: Evelyn basically married this dude regardless of how he treated her even on national TV and THOUGHT she would had been able to put up with it so that she could be the trophy NFL wife.
Whether or not Evelyn listened to Iyanla is up for question. For some reason, I'm not really buying that Evelyn will stop acting a fool on BBall Wives. Just my observation.
Next week Iyanla will be working with regular folks. [Edited 9/17/12 5:57am] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I only saw a few clips so far, but from what I saw when they were doing the "personal accountability" work, in some spots her jaw sorta clenched up when she was confronted with the truth of her walking away from the mistreatment over ego (ie., him damaging her looks, which is her moneymaker and validation) vs. anything else. In any case, this sure was a lot deeper than the "therapy" you saw Tami Roman getting for her anger management issues on BB Wives.
I'm pretty much convinced that reality tv therapists are generally chosen to coddle cast members and simply help endear them to viewers (Braxton Family Values has also been guilty of this)---and by endearing them to viewers help keep ratings up. By coddle I really mean that you rarely if ever witness breakthrough moments, or hear the doctors actually have input on what their clients are going through, they just sit and watch them talk, and occasionally throw in a stale "and how does that make you feel? " I much prefer a platform like this where you get to see folks dig deep and get into some serious roots-work, even if they really have to scratch and claw to get there. But there has to be some sense of transformation, or a-ha moment, and not people just sitting on the therapist couch looking cute and throwing out catchy one-liners or talking stupid to pander to their "perceived" audience. I'm glad Iyanla attempted to address the issues that Evelyn has. You can tell that she comes from a cycle of dysfunction (like a lot of us do). Her's just seems to be an even worse cycle. I really felt sorry for her by the end of part 2. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Like I said on Twitter Iyanla needs to get at Tami not Ev.
That would be saying/doing something. That's where the real THUUUUGGGGGGGGGG is on reality TV ...
But I love the show and will watch, I also loved her Super Soul Sunday two part episode with O....... Good stuff more-so than Fix My Life.

I absolutely loved the two episodes of Super Soul Sunday that I've seen. This one sheds some light on Oprah and Iyanla's reconciliation...

When I'm done working in the afternoon, I'll try and track down the LifeClass where Oprah and Inyanla confront their past. It was pretty good, but I don't remember the site I used to watch it (since I can't access OWN from overseas).
