Boardwalk Empire S3/Epi#2: "Spaghetti & Coffee" Okay, this episode was sllllooooowwwww as I don't know what.
For as ultra sensitive as Gyp Rosetti is, with the dumb questions he asks folks, he sets them up for them to "teach" him something about what he obviously doesn't know, then gets offended that they apparently know more than he does. Urgh.
What is going on with Nucky? So he wants possession of his mistress too? Or is she spying on him for another gangster? I don't know why, can't put my finger on it, but something about her is off.
No Van Alden and Richard this week?
Chalky is something else. I have to say, when his daughter started talking back to him, I kept thinking he was going to slap the taste out of her mouth but he didn't. Same when she was the juke joint or night shack, whatever it was and her uppity boyfriend got his face sliced, it looked as if she wanted to laugh at him or something. Funny how she was so into him when she thought her dad didn't like him, now that Chalky wants her to marry him, she's not interested.
So is Margaret going to end up banging that doctor she laid out?
I couldn't seem to figure Eli out last night. Was he expecting to be at the top since he and Nucky have sort of buried the hatchet? Well I guess they really didn't since he has to start at the bottom again. And is he going to start plotting against Nucky again?
Looks like next week's episode is going to be more fun than this week. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

What was nucky doing with that razor in the medicine cabinet when he was visiting his mistress? I thought maybe he tampered with the blade so whoever shaved with it would cut there face and He could find out who else was sleeping with her????
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I was wondering that too. I read the synopsis on the HBO site and it said that Nucky was basically "examining" the razor and realized that the hairs in the blade were NOT his hairs...just as his mistress was talking to her other suitor on the phone.
I don't think it was a very clear scene where one could interpret that. I for one thought he was taking the blade out for some other ulterior motive, like being so irritated that she was on the phone with some other guy that he was going to go nuts and slice her up. I'm thinking Eli will prove more useful than Doyle or Nucky expected with this roadblock set up by Gyp Rosetti.
It was nice to see Nucky and Rothstein so buddy-buddy after the last two seasons of fighting.

I know right! I couldn't stand Rothstein in season 1, but last season he was starting to grow on me. Now I love to see him in different scenes. He's so sneaky, yet articulate with it, love it. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

i dunno, i still miss jimmy (michael pitt)he was kinda like an alpha male to me i was magnatized towards his, sad, heroic, brave, sometimes unemotional and melancholy ways. i really did not like his character getting killed off in the series. kind of deflated my interest.
however now my alpha male magnet detector is being drawn toward, that one guy who margeret had the affair with, let me see what's his name? anyway, he's the irish guy with the dark hair and the take charge manner.
okay, i'm back
his character's name is "owen sleater." his stage name is charlie cox. i think he's kind of fine in the role. I finally got to watch it last night....

That's quite possible that Rothstein is doing her too, I mean, she is staying in HIS BUILDING after all. Seems Nucky would had figured that one out and had already set her up in a new apartment that he was paying for himself. And yes Arnold WAS giving Nucky a hint while he was playing pool.
It's actually baffling to me how such a gangster like Gyp is really the first villian to actually give Nucky a hard time in regards to his business where it seems he doesn't possess the brains to do it. I think Bobby Cannavale is doing an excellent job relaying this on screen. Gyp is one of those guys you feel like is going to get a quick bullet and that'll be the end of him because he's so messy, yet somehow, at the end of the day, he's persuasive enough (in his own twisted way) to get what he wants. imo a bit of interesting trivia. here is a pix of the real "nucky thompson," aka: Enoch Lewis "Nucky" Johnson. One great difference between the real Johnson and the fictional Thompson is that the real Johnson is not known to have killed anyone personally like Thompson has done; nor is there evidence that he ever ordered someone killed.
According to the Atlantic City Press, Johnson "was born to rule: He had flair, flamboyance, was politically amoral and ruthless, and had an eidetic memory for faces and names, and a natural gift of command ... [Johnson] had the reputation of being a trencherman, a hard drinker, a Herculean lover, an epicure, a sybaritic fancier of luxuries and all good things in life." read more:http://en.wikipedia.org/w...L._Johnson
The HBO television series is based on a chapter of the book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City, by Nelson Johnson.
i guess i'll have to check out the book. i like history of real non-fictional characters. without a stretch of anyone's (writer's) imagination.

^^ Me too. I read all about Nucky Johnson.
Every time a new gangster appears on the show, I Google him.
I don't think that Gyp Rosetti is real, tho. I couldn't find anything on him...

That was to establish dominance for the viewers. Nucky is the boss so he stays comfortable in his undies while his mistress is forced to lounge around nude.
Also, no one wants to see Steve Buscemi naked.

Can someone quickly explain who Nucky met in that room and why did he give him money? Didn' quite get. Language probably. Hard for me to understand from time to time. Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

He was the middleman who the attorney general told Nucky would accept his protection payments from now on because it's safer in light of the recent crackdowns. [Edited 9/25/12 18:20pm]

Naw I don't think he's real either. I tried looking him up too. They probably conjured him up from a combination of real life gangsters. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

[Edited 9/25/12 13:05pm] The writer or director or someone said that he was an amalgamation of several character types @ the time. He isn't anyone specific. This was during the for or so minutes they tack on to the end of the episode for interviews and what-not.

someone please, which episode was it where margaret signed of the property to the church. i cannot seem to find it. i missed the show a coupla weeks. anyway margaret seems to be such a milk toast kind of personality. she's hot for owen sleater one moment. now she's acting all flustered about the doctor at the hospital. nucky really loved her and she flocked the herd all up. now nucky is doing the horizontal charleston w/billie in another pasteur. margaret be acting all pious one moment then a all sizzly and closeted sexy the other. i'm betting she's gonna have an affair w/the doctor. “Transracial is a term that has long since been defined as the adoption of a child that is of a different race than the adoptive parents,” : https://thinkprogress.org...fb6e18544a

Chalky is one ruthless son-a-bitch...I love him!!!! He don't play not even with his own daughter. Notice how his son started talking all proper when Papa Chalky walked into the room. He knows what's up. Don't nobody mess with Chalky White.
Oh Margaret, just bang the hot doctor already and then go another round with Owen while your at it. When your done with doing your dirty deeds, go to the priest and repent like that's gonna make you the saint you are striving so hard to be now that you're all livin' the high life on Nucky's dough.
Upset there was no Richard in this episode or Van Aldean But no Gillian and her whorish ways either so
Rosetti with his 'Spagetti and Meatballs with coffee' . I thought he was one smart mofo for buying the only gas station between Atlantic City and NYC. I'm liking his arrogant ass a little bit more now.
Aww Eli...ur oldest boy hates you; so, I'm just waiting for you to find that wooden model plane burned to ashes in the backyard sometime soon. Welcome home btw
Eli asked the question that I've been asking since the beginning of season 2: 'How the fuck is that weasel bastard, Mickey, still alive?' He should have been dead before the end of season 1; but, he is a weasel and weasels are quite sneaky and resilient. Trying to hire Eli to do his bidding...Mofo please!
Billy is what is nowadays referred to as a 'Call Girl'. I miss Lucy and liked her more than this broad. I'm hoping Nucky hasn't developed a case of the stupids with this chick. I was actually kinda wanting him to slice her up with that razor or poison the food he made her but NOOOOO! Nucky's gettin' soft
Can't wait for Sunday.

so, i'm still off in a fog when it comes to finding out if nucky knows that margeret signed the land deed over to the church. what episode does he find out in? if so is this why nucky's gone over to billie's bed and left margaret to sleep alone?
hep me, hep me somebody an inquiring mind wnts 2 no. “Transracial is a term that has long since been defined as the adoption of a child that is of a different race than the adoptive parents,” : https://thinkprogress.org...fb6e18544a

Nucky knows and he and Maragret argued about it in this episode I think. Since she signed the land away in last season's finale, he found out between seasons off-screen.

oh, okay thx. i think i was kind of salivating while waiting to see nucky's reaction to this issue.
sometimes i like margaret for her wanting to see women move forward during a time in history where women were not recognized as equal to men. then sometimes i cannot stand her for her religious stance. then sometimes i'm with her for abandoning her prudeness to her sexual desires.
imo margaret is a walking contridiction. “Transracial is a term that has long since been defined as the adoption of a child that is of a different race than the adoptive parents,” : https://thinkprogress.org...fb6e18544a
