Meanest Job rejection email ever, what do you think?

I applied recently for a job at Real Groovy records a used music store in Auckland. As I have been out of the work a while and thought I had a reasonable shot with this job.

Basically customer service, musical knowledge and retail (Stuff I am more than skilled for) and this is the rejection email I got today. I have changed some names for Privacy's sake.

Hi Kevin,

There was a very large amount of interest in this position.

Unfortunately your CV is within the 140 applicants that have not been considered for the second round of interviewing for the retail position.

To protect your privacy we have shredded your CV. eek eek eek lol

I sincerely appreciate the time you invested in your application.

I understand you are passionate about music and have customer service experience, but the decision in the end comes down to specific music retail experience.

To reduce staff turnover and training time, we are looking for a person who already has a lot of experience in this field.

Do not feel discouraged in continuing your job search, I hope this information of why your CV was not successful, helps you in your future job applications.

I wish you every personal and professional success with your job search and in the future.

Thank you, again, for your interest in Real Groovy.

Warm regards,

First of all they are bragging about how many people applied, yeah it's a recession, so whats so funny about it.

But the shit about shredding my CV. Would you mention to an applicant that you have shredded a CV to protect their, privacy.

Don't worry I fired back a missive email. But seriously this is nasty.

Anyone else had one like this and what do you think about it.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Are you joking?

This is one of the more gracious rejection letters I've seen. These days you're lucky to get an acknowledgement you're even alive. These guys told you exactly what got you passed over, so now you know what disadvantage to compensate for.

Sorry about the job.

But I thought their letter was very good. Its rare to see them.

I bought the Deborah Allen / Prince "Telepathy" 12" from Really Groovy Records! It was a great find.

Agree with the above. Sorry you didn't get an interview but the letter sounds quite nice to me.

Shredding may be a little unusual but doesn't sound mean in any way. You shouldn't take it personally.

I have to agree with the concensus on this one. The letter wasn't mean at all...I just think it was rather long. It's the longest job rejection notice I've seen, however, they were specific and professional about it. Don't take it personal. Just keep on applying elsewhere. Good Luck. thumbs up!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Exactly.

You want to talk mean? I once got a rejection letter that was not only a form letter, but they actually misspelled my name. Even worse, the job was with an organization that routinely asks me for money (the university I attended). They never misspell my name when they want me to cough up a donation. rolleyes

Yeah, I thought the letter was normal. Except for maybe the part about shredding your CV (whichi I guess means resume or job application?). Usually, they will lie and say they will keep in on file for 6 months just in case something else comes up that will better suit your qualifications.

yeahthat

I've had interviews where I know a Board Member who knows the person I met with and they couldn't be bothered to respond to me when I followed up after we met. confused I can't tell you the number of jobs for which I've applied and gotten NO response - nothing.

I think it was quite polite of them (and even helpful for you) to explain why you didn't make the cut. The CV shredding thing is a bit odd - not because they do it (it's nice that you don't have to worry about your personal information lying around) - but because they mentioned it. I wouldn't say it was mean, though.

I don't think they were bragging about the number of applicants. I read it as more as there were so many people that the competition was very tough.

I actually think this was very nice as welll, they were letting him know that his personal information (s.s. number, address, etc.) will be shredded and not just lying around where someone could steal his identity or something. That was also a nice thing to let the guy know.

Maybe you're just mad about not getting the job, but that was a really nice letter.

The person even explains why you didn't get the job, that happens rarely.

Imagine the work they have when they're sending 140 letters like this.

Not only, as everyone has mentioned, were you lucky to get a courteous, informative reply, they also showed concern for your personal information. Shredding your CV, which contains all sorts of information identity thieves would love to get their hands on, shows that they respected you as an applicant.

Sorry you didn't get an interview though. rose

Be glad they shredded it. I sent out some CVs in the early 90s when I had a terrible haircut and YEARS later some hot chick who started working for that company told me that she had seen my CV with that picture in one of the job application folders. confused confused

lol

True story.

PS: I think that that rejection letter isn´t mean at all. At least they bothered to respond to you.

Shredding the CV is the right thing to do if it contains your contact information.

Some companies even sell the email addresses they get from applicants to other companies. Many large companies forward them to other companies and that's how they eventually end up to spamming databases.

Yep. I would be very happy if a company would be so kind to protect my privacy, as this company has.

I was mainly attacking it from the use of theword shredding. In a way it has let me down gently and indicates I probably got close to the interview stage. I also found out its main rival had laid off several staff as its going through hard times. People are not buying music as much anymore thanks to itunes and both of these shops charge high prices of $37.95 for a new release CD, where the Warehouse (Our Walmart) sells new releases at 24.95 tops.

Still I found the email braggy and slightly malicious, shred is not a nice word to use unless your are talking about pounds or vegetables.

I feel sorry for the poor person who got their email on to spambot lists, that would be banned here, we can not control spam from overseas, but kiwi based companies are banned from spamming without permission.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Is there any chance you're really young and don't have a lot of real world experience?? Shredding is the most common method of destroying a document that has personal info on it. There is NOTHING offensive about this practice whatsoever. I can only speculate that your unusual reaction to this chain of events is because you're either very young or woefully naive.

Learn from this experience and the extremely honest responses from this board. Now grow...

Then you should know that shredding documents has been a common practice since the late 80's. It is even more common now that the threat of ID theft looms...
