For an online community that's so into hedonistic visual pleasures such as p.org, I can't believe there hasn't yet been a paean to the yummy hot guys that SYTYCD has served up over the years.

I was so in love with him during that season, and was FURIOUS when he didn't win. Not only because he was the best male ballet dancer I'd ever seen, but because he was so gorgeous. Haven't watched that show since.

That was an amazing season, btw, season 3.

I too didn't watch for a few cycles after that - sometimes the talent was kind of "meh" compared to season 3, but there were some standouts like Kayla, Alex Wong.

This season, there may be a similar situation to the Danny situation - this guy Chehon is Royal Ballet School (in London) trained since age 14, was a principal at the Los Angeles Ballet (saw him in Giselle - superb!) and was in the Twyla Tharpe troupe for "Come Fly Away." He's the real deal. His losing will lose the show "credibility" in the dance community, as did Danny's losing.

But it's still entertaining sometimes, and the possible winner over Chehon, this Cyrus guy, is talented and nice.

I love sweet, precious Dmitri. I didn't know he was on this show. I know him from that ballroom dancing show that actually gets viewers.

He totally bussed Chehon by riling up the Cyrus fanbase Tuesday night. Sorry, but Cyrus needed to go take some classes, like Twitch did, and re-audition in a future season. He's been babied the whole way to the final: dumbed down choreography, no real critiques, given hip hop in disguise several times, agh!

Nigel has always been a blathering idiot, but isn't it a cardinal rule of judging/hosting NOT to let it be known who you want to win? He's done a HUGE disservice to BOTH finalists - whoever wins, people will say it's because of Nigel. If Chehon wins - it's b/c Nigel said he's voting for him. If Cyrus wins - it's b/c of the reverse psychology of Nigel. Either way, he's messed with the results.

As for Cyrus, agree about needing more training/experience. I LOVE Twitch (see my posts of him here). There was another "street" dancer who won, whom I liked too (was his name Russell?). There was an Asian one on the show too, really good. So I'm not saying a "street" dancer shouldn't win -- it's just that Cyrus is really so poor in everything else BUT animation. And even in the last number, I think Twitch outdanced him...and it's not even Twitch's style! HE learned a different technique, in order to partner Cyrus. Cyrus can never partner anyone else, or come back as an "All-Star" because he cannot do anything else.

Also, the judges nitpick every contestant for not mastering styles outside their own genre - but for Cyrus, it's a pat on the back for trying and always "you're so great at what you do!" Well, ALL the contestants are great at what they do! The ballroom gals are great ballroom dancers - but they still get slammed for little things in contemporary or hip-hop styles (which they've taken some classes in, btw).

Chehon is a top-notch, world-class ballet dancer. They say Cyrus is a "world-class" animator. And like Cyrus, Chehon has never trained or taken classes in any other style - the Royal Ballet School does not allow it (probably to prevent unnecessary injury). But HE gets nitpicked for not mastering ballroom or hip-hop in 3 days. Even though he's doing it WAY better than Cyrus is doing outside his style.

I also don't buy into this whole "street dancers, untrained dancers, are the underdog and represent the American dream" message either. Yes, I love Twitch and others, and admire the skill and beauty of "street" dancing. Even Benjamin Millepied features video of "street" dancing on his website. We know it's legitimate dancing. But you know what? Ballet is legitimate dancing too! We're not talking about the people who take ballet classes at a studio here and there, although they're working hard too - we're talking about the ones who go off to prestigious ballet academies, people like Chehon. They train 24/7 at a young age, in his case at a boarding school completely focused on ballet. There's a recent London article about the school, and how the teacher of the boys' 11 year old classes are often teaching over tears and sniffles because the boys are so homesick. They are pushed to the brink, and classmates/friends are cut from the school every year.

The RBS accepts by audition only, so the students come from all walks of life and 80% are on scholarship to attend. See "Billy Elliot" (the movie that Chehon says inspired him) and judge for yourself whether a ballet dancer can represent the "American dream" too.

Or better yet, go look at Danny Tidwell.

It'll probably happen again. Cyrus will win.

I SOOO don't want to take this show seriously at all, but it's become this unavoidable thing in the dance world.

Chehon won!!! All is right with the world. I was a power voting fool for Chehon, and can't believe it actually worked. So thrilled for Team Ballet!!!
