woo hoo Toronto here I come :)

I am going to Toronto for a week on Sunday.

excited

As a compromise for not getting to go to Chicago this week.

Ive looked at all the weather sights and it looks like it'll be pretty warm compared to Scotland at this time of year.

Can anyone recommend any of the sights, food places and dancing places?

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Toronto is better than Chicago!! razz We have a hell of a lot less murders too.

I can't recommend dance clubs, but I can tell you that we have so many great restaurants here in Toronto. Every kind of food you can imagine. Just pick anywhere in the downtown core and you will enjoy it.

You should go up the CN tower. If you like to shop, Yonge/Bloor or Yonge/Dundas is great. If you have a vehicle, Yorkdale mall is awesome. The Distillery District is great. Just walking around the city is easy and safe and we have a decent public transit too.

The weather looks ok. Around 16-17 each day and party sunny. Enjoy!

I still wish I could go up the CN tower, I've been there, but not at the top.

Drinks and food are expensive, but you can find some decent places to eat that aren't outrageous. Many of our Indian, Thai, Japanese etc are fairly reasonable, but alcohol is expensive everywhere and we don't really have "happy hour" like in the U.S. We have all the usual fast food junk too, but fine dining is very pricey.

As for murders so far this year:

60 in Toronto - population approx. 5 million

450 in Chicago - WTF?? - population approx. 9 million.

I was sent there with my job often for 6 weeks at a time bet 2006 and 2008....

Queen Street (in downtown) is best for shops and restaurants and there are a few edgy clubs there too...

Peter Pan's is a fantastic French restaurant on it and Sushi Queen does excellent sushi.

Little Italy also has some excellent restaurants....

The Island is a hidden gem, it's like a piece of the country in the midst of the city complete with little beaches and quaint wooden houses. You also get the best views of the city from there. You can get a ferry from the centre....

CN tower is cool (and looks taller than you'd think) but if you have vertigo you will suffer, it sways when it's windy....

Going at this time of year is nice as you get the autumn colours....try to get up to the castle (believe it or not there is one), it's on the outskirts and it's huge.

Also if you are a real P fanatic you can see where he used to live in the Bridal Path...(on the outskirts)...

GTA is still Toronto, just not the downtown part, and North York is the part of Toronto he lived in, not too far from Sony.

Pretty much what you said. I went over there about 10 years ago in October, yes this time of year is a great time to go with seeing the countryside with all its vibrant colours. Niagara Falls was cool, its a bit of a trek and you'll have to drive there but well worth going. That CN tower is f'ing high! It’s petrifying esp when you standing on the glass floor! lol And seeing the Queen on their money was a bit weird. Things were cheap too.

Yeah Toronto was cool, preferred it to US to be honest. You will like it.

Definitely pick up a Now Magazine for the lowdown on what's on during your stay (it's free everywhere) and head to Dundas Square - usually always something happening - talk to the locals for best suggestions. Jacket/Sweater - evenings are really cooling down.

I have stayed at a few hostels in my time. I always found myself in a dorm like room with several beds. At first I was not into the idea until I found that the vast majority of woman have absolutely no qualms whatsoever about undressing right in front of you. lol

Have a good time man.

Some good tips here, Freaker! Two things, though:

The castle (Casa Loma) is actually in the middle of the city. And I wouldn't describe the Bridle Path (that is the correct spelling - Prince was just playing on words) as being "on the outskirts". It's part of the suburbs.

Have a great time, muirdo!

Thanks Ace (are you a real fast driver?) - (Sorry obscure bootleg reference there...)

That's it...Casa Loma.....well by middle of the city I mean downtown...it's not that close to downtown you have to get a bus etc etc.

Also Bridle Path...i would say it's on the outskirts in the sense you'd need a car or a long bus ride to easily get there...again not near downtown...

So by the middle I mean the cultural/business centre not the centre of the huge GTA area!

Also, this is probably a Europe vs North American description, as what is near to you guys is what we would call far as things are a bit more spread out and sparse over there!
