when you have a sibling with whom you share one parent, who the hell refers to that individual as a "half sister" I hate that term. Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Technically, it is the politically correct term to make although if you grow up with your "half" sibling, I've heard folks just say "sister" or "brother" and leave out the half part. I have a half sister and we have called each other such since we didn't grow up together and our relationship has had it's up and downs, however now, our relationship is decent and though we aren't close and we just call each other sisters. IMO it's more of a preference between the siblings. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I think it mainly depends on how close a person feels towards their "Half" sibling(s). My father had 11 kids(as far as i know ) by 5 different women and although we didn't really grow up together we still refer to each other as "brother" or "sister". I can't speak on how the mothers felt about the other children but our father instilled in us kids the ideal that we were a family regardless of the fact that we had different mothers. I know some of my siblings get upset if they are referred to as a half brother or half sister but me personally, i don't care what they call me because i know they love me and i love them. Our father died back in 1995 and most of us are in our 40's and 50's so we don't really trip on stuff.

In my family, there's no such thing as "half" or "step" and I agree with that.

My sister is technically my half sister (same mom) but I've known her since the day she was born so I consider her my sister. I've known her father longer than she has! We were raised together... "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu
