Do ONLINE PETITIONS ever WorK? ?
I keep seeing them several times a week now asking folks to sign them. It's much easier than going door-to-door, but they are just so frequent now.
Do they ever works?
What is the purpose of these things?
Seriously, do they affect change? I've signed a few, but I always wonder what they actually are.

I don't recall one ever really working.
I remember back in 2002 about that controversy concerning Ashanti winning the Soul Train Music Award for the Aretha Franklin Entertainer of the Year (don't know if it was Lady Soul or the original ST awards) and 200,000 folks (I think, or was it 20,000?) signed this petition to get Soul Train to take Ashanti's name off it. Soul Train stood its ground and later that night Patti LaBelle made her little speech about Ashanti saying "we gotta take care of our babies" or some crap. So that petition backfired hard lol

Sure they work - for the people who gather your personal information (email or physical addresses) from them. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yeah, I wonder why anyone would put honest info in those fields.

I've learned that the hard way. All these fucking spam junk mail I've been getting the last few years from signing petitions. After the Finland petition smoothcriminal12 posted, I've retired from the petition life.

Sure-It got Betty White on SNL 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Sure about that? You don't think maybe SNL folks were actually considering her?

Betty White has been far more popular in the Golden Girls era and she still didn't get an invite. I think they considered her-but wanted to see if it would work. Seeing how young men are the key audience for snl. So, the facebook campaign, that betty had nothing to do with, got her the gig. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

But that's just it. Betty Wright is popular with young folks nowadays so I don't think it was a hard thing to do for them. In the time she did Golden Girls she wouldn't have been on that show anyway.

I just don't think they would have considered Betty White had she just not entered into a high profile stance just prior to getting on SNL. Grandmothers are not age appropriate for young men just saying-so she doesn't fit the regular SNL protocol. And for her Golden Girl era she has said she was never invited to do the SNL before. GG filiming or sitcom filming raps in March. SNL shows stop in MAY.
side bar: I hope they get Carol Burnette to host. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment
