Toddler dies after being left in car...140 degrees???

So sad...how did she not realize the poor baby was still in the car??? sad disbelief

KRIS - Police are investigating the death of a 16-month-old boy that died after being left in a hot car outside of his Corpus Christi, Texas home.

Police say 26-year-old mother, Connie Rodriguez, left the child in the car after a trip to the store.

Seven children, all under the age of 8, went along on the trip, but the baby stayed in his car seat when they arrived home.

Detectives say when the father got home three hours later he asked about the child.

That's when the parents realized he was still in the vehicle.

Benito Rodriguez was rushed to the hospital, but didn't survive.

Connie Rodriguez was arrested a short time later.

Child Protective Services is investigating.

The family's three other children are staying with relatives.

There's a video here...

7 kids and all under 8 years of age?

She must have been tired and worn the hell out not to notice the baby was still in the car. That many kids.... its easy to see how it happened.

This is why if you decide to have all those kids, it is best to be organized at ALL times so that no child is left behind to fend for him/herself or even die. sad

Nah, nah, I've known women who had nine to fifteen children and they didn't leave their child in the car with all that damn heat! 140 DEGREES?!

Understood...

but in THIS situation it looks like she was not up on her momma game to forget a kid.

IMHO you shouldn't have any more kids if you expect your older children to help you raise your younger ones. Its not fair to the older kids and it robs them of a childhood to have to be responsible for a parents lack of proper family planning. It also makes the older kids a bit resentful. Why have so many that you are worn the hell out all the time?

I never understood that.

^ Where was her family then? Why she couldn't get her siblings or relatives or hell, her mama/daddy to help if they were a problem unless they were unavailable?

Looks like hubby was at work and mom took a shopping trip and came home but forgot to unload the baby... crazy.

something like that, (being absent minded to the point where my baby loses its life) would have me on a suicide watch.... so sad.

I had 6 children. One premie so he and his brother were both small and in diapers at the same time. I shopped, went to the zoo, even took them to the Taste of Chicago where it's easy as hell to lose a child. NEVER would I 'forget' one of them. That's insane to me. neutral

Some people are just not cut out for having all those kids. I also know women who took care of many children, but this case seems that something was off with that mom.

Exactly. That's why I'm holding off on showing my sympathy for this woman for the moment... no real responsible parent, especially if we consider the mother to be the "most responsible" (and I guess these news stories have disputed that in some level, not all but some), would leave their child in some car where the heat is overbearing, like take my mom for instance, she would forget where her pencil is but best believed she wouldn't forget about her two sons enough to leave one of them in 140 degree heat... neutral

How can you have a 16-month old child AND NOT WONDER WHERE HE IS FOR THREE DAMNED HOURS?!?!?!

I mean, doesn't it cross your mind at some point; "Hey we just got back from shopping, I wonder if he needs a diaper change?"

disbelief

I can forgive "OMG! Left kid in car!" & run right back out & get him, 10 minutes later.

But THREE HOURS LATER?!?!?!

disbelief

My ex and I would constantly go out with 5 kids...our three and my 2 nieces....and we were ALWAYS doing a head count and ALWAYS checking to see who's thirsty, who's hungry, who has to pee, and whose diaper needs looking at. CONSTANTLY. Not no three hours later.

Like y'all said before...some people are just not cut out for having alot of kids around.

...I don't think the woman purposely left the baby out in the car and until theres some more information regarding this I'm not going to condemn her. I'm not saying it's okay, because it was her job as a parent to keep up with her children but we can't ever know what could have been going on that day, what situation or state of mind she was in.

There's no info either that she didn't know where her child was unless she was that clueless that she left him in the car. I guess the heat made her lose common sense?

Another paper reported that 3 of the children weren't even hers. So if she only had 4 children that makes it worse and I bet the parents of the other children will never let them anywhere near this woman again. disbelief

Police say a 15-month-old South Texas boy has died after being left in a hot SUV.

Corpus Christi police arrested the boy's mother on a charge of injury to a child after the death Wednesday.

Nueces County Jail records Thursday indicated 26-year-old Concepcion Rodriguez was free on $25,000 bond. Jail officials had no information on an attorney for her.

Police say Rodriguez had her four children and three others in the SUV when she drove to a store and returned home around 1 p.m. Wednesday. The toddler's father arrived nearly three hours later and asked about his son.

The boy was found unresponsive in the vehicle and died at a hospital. Further details on the youngster weren't immediately released.

Temperatures reached the upper 90s Wednesday in Corpus Christi.

it was 95 yesterday in CC. She just forgot the baby. tragic but criminally negligent homicide.

Another one:

this one In Mn Massachusetts. Tempature 83. This is very important to NOTE: it dons't have to be all that hot for it to be deadly.

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - Police say a 9-month-old boy has been found dead and alone inside a car in Massachusetts.

A spokeswoman for Middlesex District Attorney Gerald Leone says Lowell police responded to a report of a baby left in a car Saturday afternoon. They found the baby dead inside the vehicle.

http://www.abc6.com/story...e-mass-car

NOTE: I guess it is possible that the child died by some other means and put in the car as if he was left there as a means to cover it up. (it was also a plot to a csi episode)

It's horrible. To think of what the poor child goes through before he or she dies. Strapped in...can't get out... sad Because parents are too fucking busy and distracted??? mad I found info on several sites and it makes me sick to my stomach. I also found so many news reports of this that I couldn't even read anymore. mad sad

Jan Null, a professor and consulting meteorologist at San Francisco State University. “How hot can it get in a car on an 80-degree day?,” they asked him. As he tried to research the question himself, he found there was only one study done a few years back and only studied what happens on a 90-degree day. So Jan went to work.

Jan Null now leads the latest official research on how hot temperatures rise inside a car. Jan Null, “ I found that even on a day as cool as 70-degrees, you can reach temperatures which would be lethal to a small child,” he goes on to describe what happens to a child when left in a car, “… a critical body temperature is about 104-degrees, at this point they develop heat stroke, convulsions, organs start failing.

Think of your parked car as an oven,” says Jennifer Tolle, executive director of Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina and co-chair of the NC Child Fatality Task Force. "Your car becomes like an oven in a matter of minutes on a hot summer day. You should no more leave your child in the car, even with the windows rolled down, than you should allow your child to sit in the oven in your home.”

“Your car is a greenhouse and temperatures can get exceedingly hot in an exceedingly short period of time," he says.

“There is no safe amount of time to leave children alone in the car,” says Nathan Allen, MD, an emergency medicine doctor at the University of Chicago. “Kids are more susceptible and at higher risk for heat-related illness and injury than adults because their bodies make more heat relative to their size and their abilities to cool through sweating are not as developed as adults.”
