I remember we were out house hunting when the news came on the car radio and my sister and I were in the back seat, (we'd just made a LOT of jokes at the royals expense because the house we just saw was over top frou frou) and we looked at each other and burst into tears.

I am by no means religious, but Mother Teresa passed away just days after this. I always found the fact that we frequently hear about Princess Di to this day but there's hardly any mention of Mother Teresa, who devoted her entire life to helping others, a bit odd for lack of a better word. (Not saying Diana didn't do her charity visits or was a bad person but it's just weird to me.) Again, not a fan of organized religion at all, just my observation.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

sad I was little when she died. I vaguely remember the day. The most I remember of Diana's death was how much Candle In The Wind played lol

Mother Teresa's death wasn't really a shock though. She died an old woman. Diana still had so much life ahead of her sad

I was very young when she died... All i remember i was in Red River with my family at the time & they where watching the news about it.

I was to young to really know anything about Diana or the media frenzy she inspired till years later!

I DO however recall Candle In The Wind being played a couple times an hour each day on radio lol

I'd settled in after coming home from camp and was about to leave for a family road trip when my dad told me in the morning she passed away. She was all I heard about for months, and I even bought Candle in the Wind for my mom, had to reserve it for her on special order cause it was selling out. It happened just before I was about to start high school.

I only think the reason she got the coverage she got (from the time she married Prince Charles to when she died) was because she was married into royalty and she used the PR to her advantage (eventually). But I don't know if she was as nobel, as jone pointed out, as Mother Teresa. That being said I do remember where I was when she died, I was in my bed watching "Saturday Night Live" and probably fell asleep only to be awaken and seeing footage of a crime scene and then seeing the words "PRINCESS DIANA DEAD" and I thought "creepy" (and sad). I'll never forgive Elton for ruining "Candle in the Wind" though. neutral

That's partially my point. Mother Teresa was old and spent her entire life devoted to helping people; a lifetime's worth of achievements; whereas Diana didn't really *do* anything.

mother Teresa was evil, Di was an egotistical coke head. it was hard being rational back then with all the fake mass hysteria and mourning. THE most bizarre episode that I've experienced in my whole life. I guess that's what the whole Salem witch hunts were like. And such a waste of flowers.

I don´t want to talk bad about dead people but let me just say that the orger Neversin opened my eyes when it comes to Mother Theresa and Ghandi. After that I did some further research and these days I don´t believe the hype.

I read up on info about Mother Teresa/Gandhi too. Apparently when it comes to how they really treated those in their care, they weren't so saintly. neutral

I don't really know about Gandhi (maybe he didn't have enough money for the people) but Mother Teresa spent a lot of the donated money on her missionaries. I also heard she wouldn't give people painkillers do they could feel "The suffering of God"

That was such a sad day for me. Diana and I had the same birthday.

She was only a few years older than me when she married Prince Charles and I was so into watching her get married. We were like birthday sisters and I remember thinking "she got her prince and one day I will get mine".

Then when she died, it was such a shock because I felt like she was just a few years older than me, and I was still in my 20s.

an

It was my first night ever overseas when she died. It was very very shocking.

One thing that dawned on me is that she has been dead almost as long as she was in the public conciousness - she got married in '81 and died in '97. I was about 7 when she got married and she was on the News growing up in NZ every. fucking. day and on every magazine cover. I thought it was especially sad because it looked like she had finally got her shit together and was truly looking absolutely gorgeous and confident and boom - gone.

Mother Teresa is getting her props - Catholic Church is fast tracking her to sainthood.

She was born in the same year as my mom, just several months older, and she kept saying that, and william and harry are just one year older and one year younger than me, so I guess it really hit home for her. I knew of the royal family as a kid, but didn't really pay attention to them until the death happened.
