To get back to your question.......

I think some of it (for me anyway) is the stupid unnecessary threads, the arguing, the racism, all the same old shit like The Jacksons and Madonna. The political back and forth crap. It gets stale especially for someone like me who's been around here for many, many years. I tend to ignore a lot of threads now.

Oh and did I mention all the conspiracy theory bullshit??

That's the answer most commonly given, but I'm not so sure. I'm connected to several orgers on Facebook, and I've never seen anything there that approaches the discussions on the org. Even the org as it is now. If Facebook has a big influence on the org, I think it's in the lack of anonymity that comes with it--maybe people are less wild here because their real names and faces are connected on Facebook.

Plus, I think there's just been a general build-up that happened over the years, and the org kind of collapsed under it. People got older, settled down, had kids or went on to other parts of their lives. People met other orgers in real life. People became more concerned with privacy issues (ten years ago, it wouldn't have been uncommon to see an org thread with people posting pictures of themselves in their underwear or even their naked asses--now that it's a ton easier for someone to reference that outside of the org, where your mom or your old college roommate can find it, not so much).

Something else that comes with people meeting in real life is that they sometimes grow to dislike each other. Two orgers who used to be good friends just had a big ugly fight in a thread here, which is sad but also shows there's a lot of personal interaction that goes on in the real world and isn't obvious to anyone who just reads threads here.

I think a bunch of oldtime orgers are all still here for the most part, though. They just choose not to post.

i've seen at least three 'declines' in here over the years and they are all the same. it's the end of the ORG, folks are deserting, there aren't any 'fun' people left, and so on.

and then one day things inevitably turn around and the deserters grow bored with their new horizons and come back, or new folks join. the ORG membership is like the tide. be patient and it will come back in.

This place has slowly shifted and might be on it's way out. Some people went to Facebook, some to other private cliques.

Of course if Prince were more active, the activity here would rise. But yeah, this place has gotten more censored (under fear of Prince and trying to preserve a bit of family values), moderation is sometimes really out of line in terms of logic, and discussions have dwindled down.

But everything has a lifespan! Meaning an end point too.

Internet forums in general aren't as popular as they were a few years ago.

It's not because Facebook performs the same function or allows the same type of discussion, but I suppose it just satisfies people's need for interaction. I don't think it's a good place to have a discussion on anything, really. However, seems like due to Facebook people expect the posting on "old-fashioned" forums to resemble more it (shorter posts, limited profanity, no attempts to analyze things too much, more youtube links etc.).

I have been away because I have been ill. But, I am getting better and I am back!!

Summer is always (unless a Prince event happens) slow especially in August.

If anything, we could blam Johnart for not posting as much. I mean who could resist a drunk post from are Johnart? I mean he is an artist of mixology, Art, and he is a part time boob wrangler. It's these kinds of "characters" that give charm to the place.
