Eddie Murphy movies 2007 forward....

Am I the only one who still enjoy Eddie Murphy movies since about 2007? All I ever heard from certain folks is how his career is dead. Do u agree?

I thought "Meet Dave" was pretty good but it was panned by most critics.

Then again, there aren't any critics who agree with me that "Animal House" is the best movie ever, so who cares what they think when they're so obviously wrong?

I also want to see "Tower Heist". Is it good? The preview was funny as all get-out.

I liked some of Dave, particularly the parts where he was learning how to behave like a human. His first smile had me laughing pretty hard. But it was basically a dumb movie for kids.

Tower Heist was okay, I suppose I expected a comedy though. It really wasn't funny at all, and it wasn't particularly exciting. But it wasn't bad either.

I can't remember any others, and I don't think that's a great sign for Eddie!

This. I wasn't crying on the floor laughing while watching "Tower Heist" but it wasn't boring either. Like NDRU, I can't remember any other movies he's done since '07. shrug

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

People have to realize, Eddie is 50+ now. He's not the same guy from SNL, Beverly Hills, 48 Hours, Coming to America, Harlem Nights, Boomerang ect.

Eddie stopped doin stand up in either 1987 or 1988. That's a long long time ago.

'Bowfinger' was the last good film he made. Same for Steve Martin.

That was ages ago.

Haven't seen,

Meet Dave, but willing to see it.

Imagine This, still willing

Norbit, nah I'll pass

A Thousand Words, wanted to see it but heard too many times it wasn't good.

Seen,

Shrek, I enjoyed his voice over

Tower Heist, didn't laugh at all.

Yeah, about halfway into it I realized that it's not even supposed to be a comedy.

Movies are marketed so oddly. You see a commercial with Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller, and it's made to look like a comedy. So naturally a lot of people are disappointed that it isn't funny.

What if they had simply marketed it for what it is?

I haven´t watched it yet but....how can a Ben Stiller/Eddie Murphy movie be anything but a comedy?

I understand that Jim Carrey tried to make a few "serious" movies but Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller in the same movie ?

Is it more like a thriller/action movie, or rather a weak comedy that´s just not that funny?

I think it wasn't even meant to be a comedy. It was meant to be a heist movie (which means it has some comedy). Maybe a little like Ocean's Eleven, except that movie was funnier. It was probably more political than it was funny.

Eddie did a good job in Dreamgirls. Tower Heist was cool. Daddy Day Care

wasn't bad. I have A Thousand Words but have yet had a chance to watch

it but from skimming through it to view the copy it seems interesting.

Oh how the hell can i forget Norbit. Norbit was fucking hilarious despite the

critics blah blah blah and unreasonable expectations for a movie. The wise

Asian man was hilarious.

Just because he's in his early 50's now doesn't mean that he won't ever do stand up again in life. He's very capable of doing stand up now if he wanted to, in fact, I think he would be highly successful. He would sell out. Maybe he wouldn't be amp to do strenous tours as he did in the 80's in his younger days, but Eddie + standup would be very successful. nod

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Of course he'll sell out, he's Eddie Murphy. He was only the most successful stand up comedian ever.

He had his chance to somewhat get back into it by hosting the Emmy's earlier this year.

It was actually the Oscar's. Yeah he had a chance to get back into it, but not on Hollywood's time, on his time obviously. Guess we'll have to wait a little longer. shrug

Love Eddie Murphy!

Tower Heist was good. His role was not that funny.

A Thousand Words was good. Ruby Dee plays his mother....Nice message.

Now, seriously....I LOVE NORBIT!! Saw it in the movies and thought it was a total miss and was dissapointed. Probably because of the company I was with. The critics bashed it and the whole 'he's making fun of large women' thing was just plain stupid.

I own the DVD and I've watched it MANY times. Raspushia is INSANE! Loved Eddie Griffin and Kat Williams as the former pimps and Thandie Newton was good as well.

ThankUPrince!

Nothing makes me madder than that. Well OK, pointless wars do. But still, I hate when movies are marketed as one thing but are actually another.

Are you listening to me, Adam Sandler?

Based on the replies in this thread, I wll not watch "Tower Heist". I was expecting a comedy and as it's not a comedy, I shall stay away from it.

I wish someone can explain to me what was so wrong with "A Thousand Words" that it deserved a 0% from Rotten Tomatoes. No it wasn't very funny, as expected for Eddie Murphy but it wasn't a horrible movie. And comparing it to all these other family movies that have been out that get reasonable ratings, it was an okay family type movie. Maybe a little sappy for some people. But still a zero? I think that was way too harsh, which is why I don't put my complete faith into those people's opinion.

Very dead, All of his movies after Harlem Nights have been weak and the ones after 1994 have just been beyond dreadful, Bowfinger was awright (Mainly for Steve Martin rather than Eddie).

The Nutty Professor chain is dreadful and exploits obesity stereotypes.

He's not even funny anymore, but lets face it, we all wanted him to swear and act ghetto rather than do serious acting. Eddie was always the lovable rebel, who knew what was right but went about the most unorthodox way of achieving his aims.

I think he had to clean up his act when the Police caught him with the trannie and to kill the persistant gay rumours that have dogged him, unfortunately Eddie has used homophobia a lot in his career which is why he will never be one of my favourites.

In a way he was a tragic stereotype in those early movies, he acted ghetto, talked jive and swore like a trooper and appealed to 80s ideas that all blacks were poor, street wise and criminally adept even if on the size of good. At least in a positive his later movies show him as a normal everyday guy rather than a jive turkey syncopated, shucking and jiving stereotype, in alot of ways he was the Stephin Fetchit of the 80s.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I thought the way it was worded from a recent interview that he was only going to be a co-star or at least appear in episodes in a recurring role?
