Director Tony Scott commits suicide by leaping from bridge

http://www.deadline.com/2...ro-bridge/

PDATE: Deadline has independently confirmed with the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office that 68-year-old Anthony Davis Scott, better known in Hollywood as Tony Scott, was pronounced dead around 3 PM. He jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island. The Coroner’s Office told Deadline it is being investigated as a suicide with no indication it was anything but a suicide.

PREVIOUS: The local Daily Breeze newspaper is quoting Los Angeles County Coroner’s officials as saying that the 68-year-old British film director jumped to his death today from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island. Tony Scott is known for such Hollywood blockbusters as “Top Gun,” “Days of Thunder,” “Beverly Hills Cop II” and “The Taking of Pelham 123,” as well as ScottFree Productions which producers TV shows like The Good Wife with his brother Ridley Scott. Tony Scott climbed a fence on the south side of the bridge’s apex and leaped “without hesitation” around 12:30 PM, according to the Coroner’s Department and port police quoted by the newspaper. A suicide note was found inside Scott’s black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge, as U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Jennifer Osburn told the Daily Breeze. Earlier today Deadline was alerted that “an older gentlemen who people recognized from either movies and/or TV tried to jump off a pier”.

Wow that's seriously sad to hear about, I've enjoyed many of his and his brother Ridley's movies. We may never know what was troubling him, too sad he went out this way without warning.

Terribly sad . RIP Tony.

Not getting much recognition on the news channels is my favourite film directed by him 'True Romance'.

Brilliant movie with a couple of the best cameo performances ever by Gary Oldman and Christopher Walken. I'd say Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette's career high points too.

I don't wanna say much until I know more about this, but damn, if one of the brothers had to kill himself, I always thought it would be Ridley...

So sad to read about Tony's tragic end. I've driven across that bridge several times and its height is terrifying.

A new friend of mine has an internship (or rather is the artist in residence at) at Ridley Scott Associates and of course Ridley's brother, Tony had his offices in the building too. We were talking about them and how these legendary directors acted in real life just a few months ago. She said they were super cool. This felt very dark to hear last night. I didn't sleep for hours just thinking about it.

I knew who Tony Scott was back in the mid 80's, I had been watching The Hunger over 30 times, just digesting the style. A huge influence on me as to how to make something stylish.

Yeah, the word now is that he had an inoperable brain tumor. Very sad.

Maybe he harbored a secret and exposure would have ruined his reputation and exposed him to derision. Authorities have confirmed that he left behind 2 suicide notes.

An article in today's L.A. Times mentioned two people close to the film maker said he was suffering from some physical ailment at the timeof his suicide, but they declined to be identified due to the personal nature of their relationship. confused

Such a shame. Big fan of his.

Worked alot with Denzil (including one of my fav films of his "Crimson tide"), but prefer his earlier work. Inparticular "days of thunder" "top gun" and "The Last boy scout", a film that gained a cult status but still no real info on it and now we will never get a director's commentary on it sad
