Is passing a kidney stone really all that painful??

We were talking at work today about the worst physical pain anyone has ever felt and at least 6 of my coworkers said passing a kidney stone was the worst pain. One woman who has had twins-she had them vaginally, not c section-said she would go through giving birth 2x over and no epidural rather than pass another kidney stone. It's that painful?

Having witnessed my Dad get diagnosed, go to work throughout and pass one while working I can say that KEEP THOSE F**KERS AWAY FROM ME!!!

My Dad freakin' suffered like nothing I've seen but he had a store to open and he did it.

It was inspiring...

OH HELL YES!!!!

I had 2.

I can't even begin to describe the KIND of pain... waves of pain starting at your kidneys and radiating throughout your body.... dead

When I called for my family to take me to the ER, my Dad found me curled up on the living room floor with a bucket nearby because the pain was so bad I was vomiting.

I begged the nurses at the hospital for something for the pain... disbelief

I eventually had to do the lithotripsy, where they break the stones up using a laser.

That was no Sunday picnic either. confused

My mom had to have the surgery.

Horrible. Just horrible.

Me dear ex-neighbour had them.

She is a toughie, however, she asked me to stay with her that night, to be there for her kids, because she just couldn't due to the pain.

She would never do that, so, I imagine it must be really, really painful.

After removal, she got follow-up complaints.

Poor woman.

She didn't complain about giving birth, however, don't even mention kidney stones when she's near, she'll freak!

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

In a word... YES.

I haven't given birth, and don't intend to... but the 2 times I've had kidney stones were absolutely the worst pain I have felt in my life... the pain is paralyzing and it makes you throw up... it's just awful.

I've never broken a bone or anything like that...but my kidney stone had me begging for mercy!

It was horrible. Fortunately once it reached my bladder it passed relatively painlessly. But on the way down it was horrible and I thank God for giving us oxycodone.

My husband has passed several kidney stones over the years and he says it's the worst pain he's ever felt. I've seen him down on the bathroom floor curled up in a ball in pure agony.

Sweetie had a CT scan last week because he we was having sharp pain in his back and blood in his urine. They found that he has two kidney stones, right now - one on each side.

One of them is sort of chronic (ie, we've known about it for a long time). They've told him it's embedded in the wall of the kidney, so unless it dislodges itself, they're leaving it alone. He'd likely lose part of his kidney if they tried to dig that thing out.

The other is new - and acute, though it isn't causing him pain at the moment. It will probably start moving one of these days.

This is a man who lives with Crohn's disease and has had two bowel resections - so he knows pain. A kidney stone will knock him down like nothing else ever has. It's horrible to see. sad
