Anyone have food allergies

Anyone have any food allergies/intolerances? I just found out I have multiple food "allergies". My throat doesn't swell up and close ....I'm grateful for that. I was eating brown rice everyday, but I couldn't do it any more. I needed to taste something with flavor...even though I would regret it later.

I can't have milk, soy, eggs, beans, wheat, corn, carrots, broccoli, cheese, citrus fruits, potatoes, bananas, apples or strawberries.....other things too. I thought the doctor would be useful, but he wasn't.

Soy is NOT my friend. I am learning to stay away from whole wheat products because of the gluten.

Wines and champagne leave my mouth with small black spots if I drink more than a 1/2 a glass at one time.

My eldest son has picked up my father's genes...

my son's throat itches badly when he eats peaches, avocado, cherries, plums, mango, hazelnuts, and almonds... these allergies are recently acquired and he didn't have them as a young child.

My two youngest children are lactose intolerant, because their dad is.

With some fruits...it feels like my throat is a little itchy or has a odd feeling. Well I hope if I have kids they don't get my weak genes.

I have asthma and both my sons suffer from that because of my sucky genes...

but the one consolation I have with that is, since I am an asthmatic, I know how it feels to have asthma and how to help my children and avoid triggers.

The allergies set off the asthma, so I am more prepared to help my children and am careful not to trigger allergies so my boys suffer much less than I did because my mother wasn't an asthmatic and had me breathing in her second hand smoke until I was 16.

I always had allergies and she didn't "believe" in benadryl, so its a miracle of God that I am still here.

My home has as few triggers as possible and I teach my kids what to look out for and how to keep themselves breathing easy.

So if your children do end up with an allergy, at least you will be on top of things and your child will be better protected than a parent who isn't allergic to anything at all.

My son is the same... we figured it is fruits that have a pit trigger his allergies for some weird reason.

He can eat fresh pineapple though! Pineapple is so acidic it burns my tongue and throat when I eat it raw. I can only eat fresh pineapple in VERY small amounts.

Oh! and I learned if I cook the fruit it doesn't bother his throat. So he is allergic to the fruits in their fresh state, but (for example) tonight I made peach cobbler and he ate that up and was fine.

I'm lactose intolerant and although I tested negative for coeliac disease, I do think I have a gluten sensitivity because I feel way better if I avoid it altogether - I am CONSTANTLY having some digestive upset even if I steer clear of lactose, so it is something else too.

I get headaches from wine and beer now sad

sigh

I have lactose issues myself, though I alleviated many of them by taking a good probiotic supplement every day.. I do have some other digestive issues which are probably related to food allergies but I haven't tested for yet. It may not all be genetic; It may have something to do with prenatal and post-natal development. Some studies have shown that kids who are breastfed as babies are up to 60% less likely to develop allergies than those who are not.

I have no known food allergies but dairy products seem to mess up my stomach and my sinuses. I tested negative for celliac disease or whatever but do seem to have some issues when I have too much gluten.

I try to eat more veggies at dinner and skip breads & pasta.

I breastfed my son. He was 17 days overdue and came out with really dry skin and had eczema. I took probiotics while pregnant and gave him probiotics as a baby. He was a hungry baby who brestfed and had formula because boob wasnt enough for him. When he was 12 months and went off of the bottle, he stopped drinking formula and refused milk.

His eczema got so much better and now only gets mild cases of eczema when he gets sweaty.

He has allergies to dog saliva and if he gets raw egg on his skin he gets a rash just like from dog lick.

I have been tested and I have allergies to dust, mold, some trees and grasses.

My son seems to have my allergies.

Poor thing!

Several.

Apples, carrots, nuts, almonds, cherries, mango, kiwis, honey...

I can eat some of those prepared, but not raw. It's a shame because I really like fruit / vegetables. I eat a lot of canned stuff though.

Unfortunately, even if your throat wouldn't swell now allergies can later develop into that. That's starting to happen to me (I'd say about ten years after I started having allergies). The condition gets worse during the spring when there's a lot of pollen in the air.

Allergies are a weird thing though, because it doesn't mean that you would be somehow really sick. It's just the body overreacting to certain substances that usually pose no real harm to it. I wouldn't say it's because you got "weak genes".

I don't have allergies, per se, but I am definitely sensitive to certain foods. I don't do well with soy, I get sore spots on my tongue from walnuts and Swiss cheese (a common enzyme, maybe?), I can't digest beans or oats unless they've been fermented first, and blue cheese makes the roof of my mouth itch (it's the mold, not the cheese).

I have both wheat and corn allergies. The only way to avoid corn is to go totally vegan, which I have no intentions of doing. Corn is in almost everything we eat, including meats (most farms animals are corn fed), skin products, medications, etc. Can't even eat gluten-free products because most of those contain corn products. Planning my meals is a nightmare!!!!! Since it would take extreme measures for me to avoid both corn and wheat, I just kind of pick my poisons wisely. Some foods will give me more of a reaction than others. Anything high in corn, corn flour, corn starch, corn syrup or corn oil, I try to steer clear from (which unfortunately are all of my favorite foods). I just try and stick with the foods that are not going to give me a strong reaction.

Raw onions give me severe headaches, I'm not sure what that is. I use to break out in rashes from various berries, I haven't noticed it recently but I don't eat that many berries these days anyway. And I do have food sensitivties which aren't allergies but they cause some problems. I'd add soy but I think that's because it's added to so much processed stuff that my body gets overloaded by it. I try to limit wheat and corn for the same reason, though I don't have a problem with them I just find it better to mix grains up a bit.

I have some kind of allergy to chicken. About 10 minutes after eating it I get a prickly heat that starts on my forehead/eyebrows and then slowly engulfs my face. neutral

I've had it a little more severe a couple of times, and it's affected my whole body.

I'm not sure if it's a preservative or something that gets added to the meat, but i've also had the same experience once with Salmon. It hasn't stopped me eating the food... I just take a spoonful of Piriton and it sorts it out.

Do people look at you like hmm when you say you can't eat them? I hate that.

Whenever I ask not to have beans on my plate, I get a lot of questions. Why is that allergy so hard to comprehend? confused

I'm allergic to latex, so I sometimes get a rash on my fingers from banana peels.

Interesting...

No wonder why my hands get itchy when I prepare plantains... but banana peels never bother me.

Asthma= sucky genes, my ass.

Frankly everybody has some kind of issue in one way or another, whether it's physical things that get passed down or mental illnesses or any other number of things.

I don't believe that means someone's gene pool is shit so much as I believe that's just the human condition, that NObody is perfect, period.

If anybody's idea of a 'good gene pool' is no allergies, no physical ailments, mental issues, or anything else, then I assure you, NO one has a good gene pool.

That concept reminds me of some shit the Nazis would say.

I come out in hives if I eat more than two oranges a day, found that our when I was young, during summer we used to freeze oranges so when you eat them it is like a sorbet, so used to have quite a few on hot days, so ended up scratching like crazy for the next few days.

[Edited 8/7/12 8:38am]

I don't think people in general have that many food allergies as they do sensitivities. People who are allergic to certain foods usually are born with them or develop them very early in childhood, such as peanut allergies. legumes, or dairy. But it's not uncommon to develop food sensitivities over time, especially due to aging, stress, and eating a diet full of processed foods which gunk up the body's natural gastric juices and enzymes. I know those who have gluten issues have some serious work to do to avoid gluten in their diet, but even those who can handle gluten well in their childhood and early adulthood can have some serious gluten issues as they get older. The same can be said for dairy foods. I really can't drink milk without having some gastrointestinal issues later, but I can eat cheese and ice cream in small to moderate amounts.

The one thing I have noticed as I have gotten older is that I tend to eat less meat than I used to, and while I still like the occasional ice cream cone or cheeze pizza, I tend to fell a lot healthier when I avoid dairy foods, especially during allergy season. Dairy tends to really drive my sinuses out of control when allergy season strikes. And as far as gluten is concerned, I need to lay off the wheat and corn based products not so much for gastrointestinal purposes (but it helps) but because I need to be watching my blood sugar. I've noticed lately I've become quite a fan of cucumbers.
