Tell us about the last thing that surprised you What was the last thing that surprised you...good or bad?
The Colorado shootings surprised me to be certain and my heart goes out to all of those affected by the senseless violence, but that was a shocking event.
I'm talking about the everyday type of surprises.
You went to a movie that you thought would be meh and it was great instead.
You received a gift you weren't expecting.
You received bad news you weren't expecting.
That sort of thing.
My last surprise happened a few weeks ago. A local restaurant that was outstanding and really a favorite place of mine closed down.
I'm firmly planted in denial

When my ex admitted to me, that it hurt her to end our relationship. Until she told me, I thought she did not give two shits... "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Well, some people think Picasso is just scribble scrabble. Maybe I'm a genius, who knows? My Legacy

The last thing that surprised me was that so many people in America today would support an estranged stalker and killer of an innocent boy, walking home in the rain one early evening, after having purchased candy and iced-tea from the corner store.

So, I've heard the name Channing Tatum tossed around, just now by a good friend of mine whose boyfriend is really cute. I googled since I didn't know what he looks like and... :puke: what the!!!! I'm the mistake you wanna make

A colleague of mine was celebrating having her father visit from his native Moscow for the past three weeks. It was the first time in his 72 years that he'd ever left Russia -- the first time he and my colleague had seen each-other in about 6 years -- and he apparently was amazed at the world he discovered here. Every day at work brought a funny report of something new he encountered, and suggestions on entertaining him became a bit of a departmental project for us.
He left to return home on Wednesday, and we learned that upon his touchdown in Moscow, he was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to a heart attack. We at work are just gutted. Probably the closest, most sobering death I've personally experienced in many years. [Edited 7/21/12 5:20am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I just read a story about a couple that survived the shootings in Colorado. The boyfriend proposed while they were in the hospital. Then I read the story. Young couple takes their 4 year old son and infant to a midnight showing. WTF? Ok, maybe surprised is not the right word. Appauled and disgusted maybe.
I don't get what ppl are thinking sometimes. I guess they were just being selfish.

Probably a great argument for waiting until you're mature enough to start a family. The young man probably REALLY wanted to see the new Batman, but the couple probably couldn't afford a babysitter. A more mature father, who wanted to see Batman, would have just waited for the DVD release and watched it at home (...no need for a babysitter, and probably save a buck or two on the cost of the movie).

Though I was upset about the Colarado shooting too, I hate to admit that it didn't surprise me since there was a mass shooting here a few days before it, and at the Eaton Centre last month People are so fucked up.

Lammastide's story was truly heartbreaking.
Nary an Orger is left that doesn't know what TRULY was the most surprising thing for me.
But...on a lighter note...last December I was expecting the worst at bonus time at work. The previous year was chaotic for me and my productivity was TERRIBLE. Sometimes I wonder how I didn't get fired.
So when I opened up my bonus check, and instead of a token amount they actually INCREASED my bonus from the previous year, I literally teared up at my desk.
It really, really surprised me...in a good way. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Unfortunately, that sort of thing doesn't surprise me anymore. Disgusts me, but doesn't surprise me. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

The last thing was yesterday morning.
I was told at the beginning of the week that a woman, whose husband owns a hospital in Bangkok, needed someone to run their corporate training of Nurses at the hospital--to improve their English skills.
So when I met with her, she embarassingly explained to me that she was actually looking for a secretary.
FORTUNATELY, I was really to busy to take on the project anyways, so no harm done. But the person who set us up was mortified that he could have gotten the requirement so wrong.
I've also had a third date with someone that I think is the most good looking person I've ever dated. I'm surprised he would even consider me. Actually I'm surprised by the entire situation. I vowed never to date a man again, but he was just so beautiful. Everything about it. My courage to ask surprised me, his saying yes surprised me, the second ate surprised me, and his young age surprised me . But the most surprising thing is that I'm not recoiling from any of it--I'm just treating it as a fun, good time while I figure out how to rebound career wise.
I'm surprised how much more effortless this year feels than the past 2. And, that's something to be thankful for.
I'm also surprised at how terrible org threads have been in the past two years. You people suck ass sometimes.
