The Days of Future Past storyline is on the way! This will be terrible. There's like a 25 year difference between DOFP and the first class movie. No character in first class was in the story. They should have reboot the current roster to get ready for this

Unless they do the story with different characters....the premise could work with other characters with a bit of re-jigging www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Good God, they had better not fuck this up.
I have faith. First Class was awesome.
But I'm still scared. Look what Fox allowed them to do to the Dark Phoenix Saga.

What a bizarre, kind of stupid, random story to pick. Why DOFP?
Hmmm.
Prof. X, Beast, Banshee, Havok are the only X-Men left on the team now, right? With the brotherhood being Magneto, Emma Frost, Mystique, Azazel, Tempest, and Riptide?
So I am guessing they will be introducing Kitty Pride since she is integral to the story. And since Rachel Summers is integral to the story, surely they will be introducing Cyclops and Jean?
First Class was a bizarre movie that took even more liberties with the original material than the first 3. Blargh.

I prefer them taking liberties to the continuity than taking liberties with who the characters are and the themes of the series. In that sense, I prefer First Class. It actually felt like the X-Men after the disaster that was X3.
And I'm hoping that with the success of First Class, they're willing to just go ahead and make First Class the reboot that it should have been, instead of trying to have it both ways by being a relaunch AND trying to keep it tied to the continuity of the previous 3 films (and Wolverine Origins).
The particular students didn't really matter that much in First Class. It was the Xavier/Magneto/Shaw show. So I'm glad they gave short shrift and used random students in First Class. Ones that were in and out as the first class, before wasting time introducing characters they weren't going to develop.
Scott, Jean, Storm... I have a feeling they'll be added to the class/cast in the next movie.
It isn't much of a stretch for them to be able to tell the DOFP story with some different characters anyway.
And if they're smart, they won't go within a mile of Rachel Summers or anything else having to do with the Grey-Summers future/alternate reality family tree. Rachel Summers herself isn't actually all that important to the DOFP as originally presented anyway. She was something Claremont inserted into it to pick up on in later stories.
They'll just tell the story, hopefully, from the political and time-travel angle.
There's no reason why the Kitty Pryde character can't be any other new, green character to the team. They'll probably replace her with Jean in that role in the story, if they introduce her, and use her older future self and her younger present self to make things much less messy.
But if it is Kitty Pryde due to a film continuity reboot, so much the better.

If Singer is right about it being a bridge between the two series I don't see how they can introduce Kitty Pryde in First Class II as she's only 14-ish in X-Men III. My guess is that he'll use another character instead. I can see the story working with other character....but as Errant said, look what they did to the Dark Pheonix saga, totally destroyed it (though I don't think X-Men III is that bad a film still....I liked that they weren't shy about killing off some of the big players) www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

The X-Men movie franchise is a mess. I would have liked First Class a lot more if it was just Magneto and Xavier without the kids (the title would have had to be changed though). I have very low expectations for this next film. Marvel raised the bar too high with The Avengers.

Unfortunately, them killing of a rather big player in Cyclops in the first 5 minutes, they made it impossible to do the Dark Phoenix Saga correctly.
that scene where she tears Xavier apart at the atomic level in her childhood home is still a stunner though.

You can blame Halle Berry, partly, for Cyclops getting killed so early. Apparently, she only agreed to come back for the third movie if they beefed up her part considerably. The result was Cyclops getting killed early so that Storm could take over as the most senior Xman and have alot more scenes.
I think Berry as Storm was the worst casting of the entire series (Vinne Jones as Juggernaut aside!)....Storm needed to be played by someone alot more Amazonian than Halle....someone with the look of Grace Jones I've always thought. A crap script didn't do Berry any favours at times to be fair... www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

actually, it had more to do with James Marsden following Bryan Singer to Superman Returns.
