What's your favorite Batman era?

...thanks to Aaron's X-Men thread...

My favorite is just post-Death in the Family (that's when the readers voted to kill Jason Todd, who was Robin at the time).

Batman was really disenchanted with everything, kind of losing focus and getting really violent. And scary. It was great. Jim Aparo and Norm Breyfogle (on Batman and Detective Comics, respectively) really brought two unique and dark perspectives to the character.

If anybody responds to this, I'm starting a Superman thread!

ABSOLUTELY!
1971-1973
Neal Adams completely defined the gothic, lean dark image.

Robin was off at college, so Bruce was left to brood more.

Gone were the idiotic science-fiction stories of the sixties. The artists and writers did what they could to shed the happy go lucky image associated with the Adam West series (which I can appreciate for its fun, but it's a parody of the comic books folks! expand your mind!). They began to focus on the detective, crime solving aspect of Batman.

The villains themselves became cold blooded killers. Ra's Al Ghul, the Joker and Two-Face were developed as sociopathic maniacs, as opposed to sideshow freaks as they were presented in the past.

As for the post-Todd era, I agree, Batman was his old obsessive cold bastard of a self! I loved the Aparo Starlin combo.

The whole Tim Drake storyline was too rushed and far-fetched (a 12 year old boy discovered Batman and Robin's true identities by watching them on TV!!!)

Im not big on the animated series, least of all Batman Beyond, since its simply an extension of the character

But Neal Adams' art was simply stunning. Realistic and haunting. The way it should be.

Well, yeah i guess I like the tone, but i hate the animation, its so...simple and the characters are so boxy and theres no detail or definition. now of course im not expecting comic book art but a little TALENT or creativity please!

i have them all on my hdd too smile

But the male characters have a torso to body ratio of 3 to1 and the females are pencil thin with d cups!

its just...annoying!
