If Houston is the Coolest City in America...

...and I am the coolest person in Houston, does that make me the Coolest Person in America?

Just sayin'.

Houston is known for many things: Oil, NASA, urban sprawl and business-friendly policies. But the Texas city deserves to be known for something else: coolness.

The Bayou City may not be the first place you associate with being hip or trendy. But Houston has something many other major cities don’t: jobs. With the local economy humming through the recession, Houston enjoyed 2.6% job growth last year and nearly 50,000 Americans flocked there in response — particularly young professionals. In fact, the median age of a Houston resident is a youthful 33.

The result? Over the past decade, the dreary corporate cityscape has been quietly transforming. Stylish housing developments have popped up downtown, restaurants have taken up residence in former factories and art galleries like the Station Museum have been inhabiting warehouses.

Combine that with a strong theater scene, world-class museums and a multicultural, zoning-free mashup of a streetscape and you have the recipe for the No. 1 spot on Forbes’ list of America’s Coolest Cities To Live.

Great point! It may be a bit much claiming to be only the SECOND Funkiest White Man in America, yet the Coolest Person in America.

However, one can make the case that being funky in and of itself doesn't make one cool, so I'm probably good as is.

I'd put my money on San Francisco or Boston. But, hey, I've never been to Houston. shrug I'm sure you're the coolest cat there, though, Rodeo.

I almost moved to Houston twice. What kept me from doing it was the summer heat. I hate hot weather but i absolutely despise hot and Humid at the same time. I'm definitely going to visit Houston within the next couple years though.

It used to be really hot here; in fact, it still is in the summer. But now it's hot pretty much everywhere.

I think we must credit in part global warming for making Houston the Coolest City in America.

Unlike Imago's question, my question is rhetorical.

I've been to Houston a few times on business.

I liked the gentrified gay-friendly part of town (forget it's name--it used to be the ghetto).

I also thought the Flying Saucer downtown near the Chase building had good burgers.

Lastly, the Houston underground is convenient.

That bullet train is really stupid. Why does it interrupt traffic?

The Flying Saucer is a chain in multiple cities, not really Houston!

Anvil is a hipster Houston bar with mention in national magazines like GQ. Also Brazil the coffeeshop restaurant... all in Montrose.

The underground mall of Houston is featured in the film "Futureworld" from what I remember.

There's museums and art in Houston that is world ranking (especially contemporary activity). Also the ballet and opera there is recognized for high quality worldwide.

The city is very ugly though! It's my hometown. I lived there for at least 30 years.

Things from the 60's and 70's like The Astrodome and Astroworld are either gone or unused for big stuff now.

Beyonce and Wes Anderson are from Houston. Edward Albee taught at (maybe still does?) the University of Houston (creative writing). Two Project Runway contestants of past seasons are from Houston, one actually won the season.

It's very hot and humid.

the one in Ft Worth has great burgers! (and it moved by the way from 4th to 3rd or was it the other way around? It is catty corner from the Barns and Nobles. just to the right as you exit)

Now, people - there is no debate over whether Houston is the Coolest City in America. Forbes has already settled that issue.

There really isn't any debate if I am the Coolest Person in Houston, although I might see how some could think Joel Osteen is.

The only real question is if it logically follows that the Coolest Person in the Coolest City in America is therefore the Coolest Person in America.

I say it's a no-brainer that it does, but you may discuss otherwise, in case you are in the mood for being wrong.

Now, excuse me. There's a jukebox somewhere that I am going to whack and listen to the free music that flows therefrom.

Hmmmm, Prince DOES own a house down here but technically it's in Kemah, so sorry! You're the Coolest Man in Kemah. And Timan Fertitta might have a claim on that too, LOL.
