What Type Of Villain Is More Terrifying?

This can be used for more then just Batman but any type of movie.

I just saw DKR & I personally think Bane is a way more scarier & sinister villain then Joker. Joker may have had the psychological shit going on... But Bane is just a big bitch who can break you in half & he also is not psycho. He knows what he is doing and who suffers from the consequences, I realize many would say Joker is better cause he had more clever lines & he was more twisted.

But in any film, are you afraid of more monster types? or just a human being who happens to be stronger then you, faster & could do whatever they wanted to you?

Or is a Freddy Krueger, Jason, Frankenstein type more scary to you?

To me the scariest villains are the ones who are just average humans and seem totally nice and sane - at least initially.

Like Liotta in "Unlawful Entry".

Probably because that seems the most plausible, like it could actually happen in real life.

Yeah, over the top horror movie killers usually don't phase me because obviously that's not something that you'd ever see in real life.

But the idea of someone who seems totally lucid and just like everyone else, only they're batshit crazy...that's way more believable and could totally happen, which makes it scarier to me.

The first "Stepfather" movie has that same thing going on.

A villanous human is generally scarier than a monster to me. But scarier still would be a work wherein the "villian" is some environmental occurence. Even an unscrupulous human has logic, personal vulnerabilities and sensitivities that limit their dirty work. But when the antagonist is, say, a virus or natural disaster, built-in narrative fallacies notwithstanding, all bets are off as to who or what could fall victim.

The only type of villan that scares me are the kind that could be real and could possibly come face to face with me personally and do me danger. Monsters, ghosts, witches, zombies, goblins, etc. don't scare me because they're not real. Super villans such as the ones in the comic books don't scare me because they're not real either. Freddy Kruger doesn't scare me because he's not real.

Michael Myers from "Halloween" scared the absolute hell out of me because it's very possible for a serial killer to escape a mental institution and come to a neighborhood and go on a killing spree. When I first saw the first "Halloween" movie, for weeks afterwards if I was home alone and heard even the slightest noise such as the air conditioner clicking before it comes on, I was as jumpy as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. And I constantly kept thinking I heard someone walking in another area of the house.

I hear you there. And another great thing about Michael Myers was that he didn't want anything in particular, he had no emotional vulnerabilities, and there was absolutely no reason for him to be the way that he was (though I hear Rob Zombie screwed that up later). He was just a murderous human shape without a soul.

hmm, good question

someone intelligent, egotistical/no remorse, extremely strong/deadly, and without weak spots

a velociraptor, for example

the kitchen scene of Jurassic Park HORRIFIED me as a kid, and nowadays it still makes me feel uneasy...

The Green Goblin is another dangerous/badass/seemingly unstoppable villian; of course Raimi downplayed the darkness of the character...

oh yeah, I forgot about good old Michael Myers, scariest real villian of all time, by comparison Norman Bates looks like a mama's boy playing with a knife...

Rob Zombie is a dunce

Bane didn't scare me, the other villians mentioned, Michael Myers, Jason, Freddy, shucks they are all laughable to me. I only watch those movies for laughing factor. The only villian to make me say WTF was the demon in The Exorcist. Especially the scene when Linda Blair comes running the down the steps backwards on all fours and then opens her mouth that was full of blood. That part still has me fucked up to this day. Sometimes when i'm in my kitchen, I look at my steps just imagining what if something came down my steps exactly like she did. I think I would die of shock. evillol
