Can You Turn A Gay Person Back To Being Straight? Can it be done?
Thoughts? | |

I've read some stories that people have actually gone from gay to bisexual. That's why I always think the topic of sexuality is confusing. There's still a majority who think you can choose any sexuality you are. People can live a gay life for 10 years and then decide to live a straight or bisexual one. I know one musician did. I think Tom Robinson is his name. He had a song in 1978 about "Glad to Be Gay" and he was a punk rocker, then 15 years later, he married a woman (who he's still married to btw) and has two children. Ironically he still sings the song but adds "Glad to Be Gay (and Bi)" so he now identifies as bisexual. But I always ask this question about how these "sexualities" came about and how come people keep on bringing them up? If the attraction for men or women is still there, then it's possible for the men and women to identify as bi rather than gay/straight. [Edited 7/26/12 15:05pm]

Ex-Moderator | No.
Gay is something you are, it's not the actions you take.
You can be a man who is married to and has sex with a woman but still be gay. Having sex doesn't define your sexuality, it's your inherent attraction that does. |

^ That's what Tom said. But who knows? I know others who have denounced having gay and straight in their dictionary of the definition of who they are. Some others would just say they're "queer" nowadays because they don't like being referred to as gay, straight or bisexual (lesbian and gay are technically the same thing...).

Can you turn a white person black without surgery? Gay is not a mental disorder it can't be overcome. It's merely something that exists and is apart of our personality.

Nope. Any other answer involved denial and lies. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I can attest to that right here.

I still think it's a lifestyle choice and not something people are born with. the latter is nothing but a myth.

I think there is too much concern with labels nowadays.
Personally I believe there is a whole continuum of sexuality, and that peoples' actions may slide up and down that continuum. But that does not have to change what or who they are.
Let's say a woman goes from dating women to dating men, I don't believe she "became straight" any more than I believe she "chose to be gay" to begin with. It doesn't mean she was untrue to herself in either situation. And it doesn't mean she has to be attracted to both sexes all the time, for that matter.
Who really cares, honestly, if someone DOES choose to be gay? Is that somehow worse? Better? My Legacy

I know "ex-gay" men who went to my old church...
let's just say they do NOT pay any attention to the women in the church, marry the most educated single woman in the congregation after years of being asked why are they single and end up in a scandal with one of the ushers/deacons/brothers in the congregation just to get shamed out the church for cheating on their wife with another man
so my answer is a resounding NO.

Can you choose which gender you are attracted to? If you are straight, could you turn into being gay? Can you change that? |

I agree mostly. I think we label something as it's nice to have an easy description but sometimes it doesn't always fit into an easy lable and that's OK too.
And even if it IS a choice, that doesn't make it any worse or better.
I don't believe it's a choice, though. I can't change who I am attracted to. |

So when did you choose to be straight?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Nope.
And I think anyone who thinks they can, or that they have is deluding themselves.

Of course.

Define "gay" and "straight" for the purposes of this discussion. [Edited 7/26/12 19:19pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

"...back to being straight"??!!...
now there's a brash presumption. may display symptoms of sarcasm

If someone is gay how can you turn them BACK to being something they never were(straight)? "Aren't you even curious? Don't you want to see the dragon behind the door?"

Yes I chose to be hated, discrimated against, not allowed equal rights, be beat or even killed just because I wanna sleep with another dude for some selfish reason and thumb my nose at society and the bible?? What do you mean BACK to being straight? so this is a person who was straight, became gay and you want them to be straight again?
Ask imago, that happens to him every second week! I'm the mistake you wanna make

Hear, hear.
There are a few threads of late, then, from which I hereby wish to withdraw my engagement. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Actually you can if they aren't originally from America and they have like 1 African ancestor out of 8 European In America they could be classified as black
White / Black Gay / Str8
are all social constructions, labels, cultural political identities
I wish people would use bisexual more often because the lack of acknowledgement is where the confusion comes in. That's when people then refer to 'gay or str8' 'homo or hetero'

lol well actually if we gave this person a real answer it would be Yes
now if they said Can You Turn a Homosexual Person Back to Being Heterosexual than it would just be uterly rediculous
A Gay person actually can go back to living a 'str8' life sex never has to be involved and you just pretend and put away all your gay pride memorabilia
A str8 person can live a Gay life, and sex doesn't have to be involved.

Of course not btw i I wonder how gay men can have sex with women How do they even get it up if they aren't attracted to them ? [Edited 7/27/12 7:22am]

Exactly - thank you! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

because they are bisexual
str8 & gay are some kind of polars, it's like you have to choose one or the other, if you like both you have to keep it quiet. Unless you are a str8 women then it's ok
