This entire question makes no sense because the question presumes people are born straight. I don't think people are born straight or gay. I think whatever you are emerges in puberty.
I can have sex with a woman but it won't make me straight since it does not turn me on at all nor is it what I desire.
Why do people care what others do in their bedroom? It doesn't affect them...
The only time I'm gay is when I'm having sex. Otherwise, I'm just a human being. "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

I agree, Midnite. And people kill me about that gene pool. What happens when you're between 0-14 (at least) don't determine how you view your sexuality. I know some claimed they were younger when they decided who they were but that shouldn't define how you view yourself. It's more complex and confusing than that. No one was born anything so you can't really turn into anything. [Edited 7/27/12 9:14am]

ok i don't think that's always the case though
i knew a gay man that was married and had kids before he came out he was older and grew up at a time when being gay wasn't socially accepted

This is what I don't get, why even resort to a fake marriage if that's not where your heart lies? It's kinda like if you don't live by the code of the world, you're an outcast automatically. Me personally I would embrace that outcast thing. Why would I wanna live by anyone's code? And then force myself to get into an institution that wouldn't financially benefit me anyway?

My cousin was gay and now she's straight- but she's 43, doesn't date, and has moved back in with her parents. I think she's stifling her "gayness" for her parent's approval.

yeah i'm inclined to agree , however i think it must've been really difficult back then

What do you mean by "back"? Are you insinuating they were straight to begin with, then caught the ghey?
I think your premise is fatally flawed, and I am 100% sure that you can't "turn" a person's sexuality from one thing to any other thing.

That happens
They say a lot of the people who end up in the 'ex Gay' groups were openly Gay, lived the life etc
It doesn't stop them from being homo/bisexual, but "expressing" gay culture politics etc you can stop

I know what you mean, But if he was never out, never lived an open lifestyle, freely went to gay communities, maybe he never had homosex, then he wasn't gay.
He might have been totally homosexual, or some degree of bisexual. I've heard of the guys thinking of a man or picturing himself with a man in order to have sex with they wife.
If he had a sexually fulfilling life with his wife, he has to be attracted to her.

Different times, different places. Some places in the muslim world what you said up there wouldn't work.
If I'm not mistaken a few years ago a couple of young men 'exposed' where hung for homsexuality
How about that case in the African country where 2 African men were married had a party etc and the government got a hold of them and had them in jail (and stuff that could have been done to them while there) when they got out the 1 went into hiding the other married a hooker(supposedly a hooker)
Even in the States it's not that simple, even living in more upscale cities depending on where you come from and what 'sub-culture' you live it can be hard, what kind of job you work, may not afford you the freedom you want.

If he identified himself as being a member of the community, regardless of all of these things you named, than he would have still been gay. There are plunty of people who identify as gay without being out, living an open lifestyle, having sex with someone of the same sex etc.
Being homosexual has to do with desire and attraction while gay has to do with self identification with a certain community. We would have to know something about what he thought about himself to know if he was gay or not. "Aren't you even curious? Don't you want to see the dragon behind the door?"

So you're saying that you personally are attracted to both a dick and a pussy but you chose to sleep with the pussy instead? That's the ONLY way someone could choose their preference and the reason I questioned if you personally had been attracted to a dick also is because unless you're attracted to one or have been attracted to one in the past, there's no way in hell for you to know if we chose our lifestyle. In other words, if you aren't gay yourself, you don't know a damn thing about what we chose. We tell you we were born this way. We would know whether we chose something or not, you wouldn't. Very easy. Put in a porno flick and stare at the dick while fucking. Hell, that's what I did in my closet days. If it wasn't a flick, it was a magazine. And if there's none of those available, close your eyes and try to see a dick in your mind. Andy is a four letter word.

Hell, you're young and times have gotten much better since you've grown up. There was a time that you could be arrested just for being gay and you could also be thrown into a mental institution and given shock treatment. That wasn't overseas somewhere, that was right here in America. And even when I was growing up as recent as the 1980s, you could have your ass severely beaten or killed by people for being gay and the majority of people wouldn't give a damn and would even say you deserve it. Hell, teachers didn't even stop students from making homophobic remarks in class and some teachers made remarks themselves.
You've grown up in political correct times and it has only been since probably around the mid 1990s or so that attitudes changed and homophobia became more hidden and there's still a lot of open homophobia today but nothing compared to how it used to be. Andy is a four letter word.

How can you be a fan of a man who wears high heels and makeup, who has sung about being a girl or a boy and still be homophobic?
