Experiences VS Material Goods

Which is better....the age old question....Having great amazing experiences or owning material items that you want? I realize in perfect and/or logicial world - you can have both. However, I'm just asking in terms of philosphy and living principles - which do you all think? Feel free to speak in generalties here.

Let the responses begin!!! biggrin

hmmm Usually... in many cases people have both. Like they DO something fun/live out a dream/go somewhere exotic and keep mementos of the adventure they had. Those mementos they tend to treasure as objects that serve as reminders they can show others or tell stories.

This is usually the case for me.... unless its about my childhood memories of living in poverty. I didn't have much but I got some serious experiences (mostly funny) from it all. I have those memories over some of my friends who lived sheltered lives as children. They started their adventures mostly in high school or college... by way of trips and what not.

As for me, I have mostly my memories but they are funny as hell and I share my childhood mess with my kids and they are usually like eek

lol It great seeing the shock on their precious faces.

Experiences. There are some material goods I can't live without - my guitar, my Bible - but experiences are the best.

Do things no one else can do. Go places none of your friends have ever been. Set impossibly high goals and then go achieve them. That's what makes a life.

In the car with no seat belts rolling around in the back of a station wagon and fighting over who gets to sit in the little flip up seat... while you half way hung out the back...

and my aunt lopping off her chiguagua's head with the heavy car door... I think she drove an Impala back then.

Having nuns and teachers spank us

No internet, cd's or dvd's and waiting years to see your favortite movie on television, rotary phones, black and white TV....

so many stories that just frighten the kiddies of today. lol

Does food come under experiences? Some of my favourite memories are meals and one of my favourite things to do is to recreate an awesome meal I've had somewhere cloud9

Experiences!!!!!

woot!

That has been my lifelong motto.

My kids have traveled more than I ever could imagine at their age, not because I was rolling in cash, but rather because I wanted to build a lifetime of positive and memorable experiences that they will always cherish.

I think back to those good times with a smile.

The fact that I have no bank is bad, but won't stop me from taking my vacation with the family while my parents are still healthy & of sound mind. Better that than to regret not having done this once they are homebound or worse...all for the sake of money.

after havin many of the material things that are supose to

make ones life so much happier, i find that the experience

of havin had them far exceeds the nessesity to have them.

when i look back on my life i seldom say, "i wish i had then whut

i have now..."

i have always said " i wish i knew then whut i know now..."

experience is knowledge and for some, that knowledge

becomes wisdom.

with wisdom one can find that material things are just things

but happiness can be found outside of those things...

i've met others who have felt the same,

those who would have traded everything they had for

a chance at true happiness.

I'm WAY on the side of experiences. I don't like stuff and I don't like getting stuff for gifts.

Visionnaire

I tend to masturbate alot (and really, with all the free porn that's available on the ol' internet these days, who can blame me?).
And when I do, I'm fantazing more about experiences than I am about material goods.
Though, sometimes there are some material goods involved.
But overall, it's still about the experience.
That's what usually causes me to splooj the most.
The experience.

Experiences all the way.

I only have about three material possessions that I value so much that I would be very sad without. Everything else is just stuff.

I have moved a lot, when you move, you learn to down size. I am always going through my stuff and donating to charity.

When you have a child, you always have stuff to give away to other ppl that can use it.

To me traveling and learning about other cultures is so much more important than having something material.

I think much of it stems from when I was 12. My mom and I had to pack up our stuff quickly and move several states away without telling anyone. I was told just to grab a few things, from that time on I learned that you don't need to have lots of "things" in your life to live.

Thanks. That is why I admire you for being a good dad. Some of us weren't so blessed.

Material goods that offer experiences? You know, like art, instruments and so on?

Not big on traveling anymore.
