Prometheus, a Second Look.

OK,

Prometheus was NOT the movie I was hoping that it would be. But, then again, being a huge Alien fan, I was hoping it would be a more expansive Alien movie, honestly.

However, it was interesting enough for me to watch twice, and I enjoyed it more the second time after giving up the ghost on expectations. That's not to say this is a great movie--but, it is certainly better than what's been passing by as Sci-Fi these days.

One thing that I keep being bugged by is Vickers. I don't think Vickers is human, but I wonder why she and the captain had sex. I mean, androids do NOT feel emotion.

My theory, and one that is being floated around, is that she is a replicant, like from Blade Runner. So this movie takes place in the alien and Blade runner universes---they are the same.

Replicants can feel emotion, pleasure, ambition, etc. And vickers certain feels all of those. They also do not need expiration dates (Neither Sean Young nor Harrison Fords' characters had expiration dates).

Did anyone else feel Vickers wasn't human? I think she's a replicant, but not an android.

This of course, means she can be killed more easily than and android, but would be

several times stronger than the average human, and capable of surviving on the planet

for a bit.

Well, I know a lot of subtlety can be lost on me, but did the captain sing Love the One You're With before or AFTER meeting Vickers in her quarters? Because although a lot alluded to that they would have sex, I did think maybe she just wanted to get him off her case by showing him this:

I think Vickers was an android. People made comments as why did she starting doing exercise when she came out of deep freeze?? Well I remember that scene from Alien where Ash (an android) was cold and started doing some exercise himself to keep warm.

I registered with the weyland industries site on Jun14 but I haven't bought any androids yet

(if that is even what that video is about, my internet connection at the moment is very weak and the video won't play)

I saw it, but I couldn't even begin to think what it means.

I don’t think Vickers’ actions in the movie make any more sense or we have a new perception of her motivations if she is a replicant. If I recall the movie correctly, she was bitter, petulant, resentful of David and probably wished her father would just die already, which makes a certain amount of sense if wishes she was running the show and has a biological father who seems to prefer his android to his actual daughter. I don’t really see how being a replicant leads to a better understanding of how she behaves.

However, I expect the main factor in determining if Vickers is a robot is if the studio decides the movie was profitable enough to warrant a sequel and if they want to pay the salary of that actor.

I thought this movie absolutely sucked monkey cock.
