Have you ever lost your musical spark if it's a hobby for you? What caused it and how did you get your groove back?

I don't buy music anymore either, lost the excitement. I only make exceptions for 2-3 artists now, and even with them I've hoarded long enough. I took myself too seriously with it too at one point, but now I don't, and that is what's helping me. Plus work and other issues have become priority but I'm a big dweller and do get hyper off it, though I also get depressed over it, so other things get me hyper more for now.

I'm mostly into electronic music and considering how much potential that genre should have for exciting new developments (considering the unlimited array of sounds available) I've been disappointed by how stagnant it's been for many, many years now. So yeah, I'm not as excited by music these days as I once was.

The last CD I bought was totally non-electronic: Alabama Shakes' debut album. It's awesome.

I know it might sound silly, but I feel like my religious-like belief in music died with Kurt Cobain. I have liked plenty of music since 1994, but that was when I feel like I stopped placing some kind of faith or belief in another person and began to place it in myself instead.

This makes a little more sense when you know that I am a musician, too. I keep trying to listen to new music, but I hear it a little differently than I used to.

of course, in 1994 I was 22, and now I am 40. That might have something to do with it!

Why would I ?

Just because some or most "new" music is not good doesn't mean I should lose my passion. Perhaps some people lose touch with their passion for music do to life commitments (Job/children.).

And I can honestly say that I have never downloaded a CD or movie illegally (that was available for sale).

I just think you should buy it to support the artist and the business that promotes and or creates the music or movie.

I don't like to compare it to religion at all, I just call it fascination, but I was like this too after MJ's death, and I also make music, though it is not the same anymore as before hearing new music.

I lose my passion for it everyday....but I always get the passion back before the day ends...

It wasn't just about Kurt Cobain, specifically, since I felt that way about a number of artists. But it happened at a time of my life that definitely changed me. I'm sure the same is true for fans of Elvis & John Lennon

Yeah exactly, I also realize it had a lot to do with my own life circumstances and views of the world at the time, since things were going downhill, and that added to it cause though I'm a fan of several other artists too with big collections, MJ grabbed me the most.

I think that most of us lose that "zeal" for music the older we get.

There was a time when I counted the hours/minutes/seconds before being able to run to Tower Records to get a new release.

Now...

The last album that I was excited about was El Camino (The Black Keys) and even THAT had to wait 'til I got around to driving to the store (I hate downloading albums...I want something tangible for my money).

There is no more Sam The Record Man here, and no more Music World. HMV still exists so I'll go there for a new release, and Sunrise is pretty cool too though they are selling records and merchandise mostly and the CD's are marked down cheaply. But like I said, no more rushing out to buy new CD's, I can't afford it or be spoiled like I was years ago, plus I just buy them for artists I have big collections for
