I suppose I could afford to live in a better neighbourhood, but if I'm left with just a few hundred euros more each month due to lower rent rates I'm quite happy. I can get myself cool stuff and have a more active social life.
Not that there's a lot of "crime" in my neighbourhood. Just a lot of alcoholics, mentally ill people, foreigners that can't even speak Finnish (or even English) etc.
... oh, if you have kids. I can see a problem with that.

The expense of living in a good neighborhood goes far beyond how much rent you pay. If you can't afford all the expenses, like transportation, in good neighborhoods, at least around here, public transit can be very limited since it's really only needed during regular business hours, that's just one example, you live where you can get all of your needs met. Types of school, child care facilities, afterschool programs, all those thing cost. You talk about working multiple jobs, then who takes care of your children? You leave them as latch key kids in good neighborhoods? Wouldn't your good neighbors call CPS on you cause that's illegal leaving kids home alone?

let's talk about the "BAD ACTS" in the HOOD and how this came about and why people really stay in the area. it's all about 'conditionin' over decades...
1. LIFE in the ghetto has always been low in value due to the treatment of those who lived IN THAT AREA back when they were havin hangins that were not viewed with any more urgency that a ran over cat, people get to feelin that life ain't worth much...
2. people had to deal with way worse things thang crime to live back in the day they learned that runnin was not a save all because no matter where they went, there they were and the prollum was still the same... crosses burned just as bright on one side of town as it did on the other side...
3. CONDITIONIN is not easily undone, ask the natives of this country look at a lab rat, it don't rise above it's conditions, they kill 'em, or they just die in that condition. people always wanna talk about how far we've come without lookin at how far we gotta go just to hit normal. there are so many bariers in place that are not evident to ALL PEOPLE because ALL PEOPLE haven't had to bare this burden and gettin over it is an issue, esspeacially when not afforded the chance for a real education and conversation about how to end this thing. you want less violence, vote for less guns... i gurentee nobody got the energy to stomp the life outta somebody more than once in a lifetime i am KING BAD!!!

This is exactly why I live where I live as well. I could afford more, but then I'd have less expendible income each month, and I like having that extra money. Change it one more time..
