Mom bolts from officer, leaves baby in shopping cart

OCALA, Fla. (CNN/WFTV) - This is one mother who won't be up for any "Mom of the Year" awards.

Two women leaving a Florida Walmart were confronted for allegedly shoplifting. In the video above, you can see one woman bolts immediately, leaving her 1-year-old child sitting in the shopping cart. The baby's aunt initially starts to drag the cart into the parking lot, but then she takes off too.

"When the loss prevention officer asked her, 'Are you going to come get your child?' she said, 'It's not my child. It's not my child.' And she continued to leave, and then they both abandoned the baby," said Sgt. Chas Maier.

Police caught up with the women the next night. It turns out the baby's mother was on probation and under house arrest on a home invasion conviction. Both the mom and the aunt are in jail. The baby is in state custody.

Sadly, unless there's a relative to take this child, s/he will end up in foster care forever while the state, in its "wisdom," waits for the biological parent to get her shit together enough to be reunited with the child. disbelief

One thing I never understood....

If a mother raises a child so poorly that child grows up to become a irresponsible mom that gets the baby taken away...

that baby is then usually sent to live with the grandmother that raised the mother to be so irresponsible and therefore repeats the dysfunctional upbringing.

How can a lousy grandmother raise her grandbaby right if she couldn't teach her own daughter how to take care of a baby in a way that the state wouldn't have to step in?

I see this pattern often and it always FAILS!

generation after generation of crazy...

sigh

Mom bolts from officer, leaves baby in shopping cart see video at:

the baby is now in state custody. i hope the state assigned care-giver does a quality job of caring for the child. maybe the state will send the mother to counselling. then the child will be reunited with the mother.

If she was on house arrest she should NOT have been out!!! And the child should of left her custody since day one of its birth...since she was in JAIL already...

free2bfreeda... seriously if they already commited crimes twice why should she get counceling or custody back? AND she was partying the night before when she was supposed to be on house arrest! She appearently has not learned the first 2 times why think she will learn this time? She is a repeat offender and there will be harsher sentecing im sure...her first was home invasion & robbery... this was also retail theft... then the nutcase left her baby behind as well as her sister! If u watched the news clip from the link above they were asked to come back for th e baby.. NEITHER ONE claimed him>> poor guy IMHO.. the baby will be better taken care of in state custody at a foster home or with adoptive parents WHO care for him.

The state of the world today

Listening to the news last night, some local...person...left their 4 month old in the car while they went clothes shopping, a passerby saw the child and knocked on the window seeing the child was sweating and unresponsive, it's been HOT for weeks. The police came and broke into the car, the baby is okay, "mom" was arrested. Again it's been hot for weeks, sometimes triple digits, how much intellect does it take.

Smart people better start having some babies cause hon' we is in trouble in the future.

Yeah I wouldn't have returned the child back to the "mother" either.
