It's Official! Lindsay Lohan to Play Elizabeth Taylor, Producer Gushes LiLo Has "Sparkle of Today"

Congratulations, Lindsay Lohan. Gal can finally update her IMDb profile with the role of a lifetime (literally)—she's officially set to star as Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime movie, Liz and Dick.

There's been mucho speculation for sometime that Linds would take on the iconic role (including some less than subtle hints from the actress herself), but rumors swirled her reputation and her now-completed probation were seriously affecting her chances.

Not so, insists executive producer Larry Thompson, who exclusively revealed to E! News that Lindsay's "perfect" for the part.

So, what's got Larry believing in LiLo and taking a risk with her far-from-flawless past?

"We have wanted Lindsay from day one," Thompson tells E! News in an exclusive interview. "She had a lot in her life that was going on. We needed to give her time to take care of her business, and while we negotiated the deal for her we prayed for her—and wonderfully she has behaved. She's cleared herself and we're ready to start this movie."

What a relief (no doubt LiLo's thrilled). But while Lindsay has cleared her legal slate, she's far from perfect in the public eye, so we have to wonder why, exactly, Thompson felt he could trust the notorious starlet:

"We truly feel that Lindsay Lohan is perfect for Elizabeth Taylor for our movie….I think Lindsay—who is very gifted—deserved another chance," Thompson explained. "We never, of three pages of 'what if's' in the negotiation, there never was 'what if she can't act.' We know she can act."

Yeah, so do we. At least, we did back when Cady Heron (Mean Girls, obviously) took the big screen by storm. This will be Lindsay's first leading role since 2009's Labor Pains and we can't say it enough—gal has iconic shoes to fill.

But like Elizabeth, Lindsay has more gusto than people normally give her cred and it's clear Thompson truly believes in Lindsay's Liz-like qualities:

"We could hire actresses that would be great and people would watch it, but I think that Lindsay brings to Elizabeth Taylor and to our project that sparkle of magic, that sparkle of today," Thompson reveals while tearing up and recounting the emotional rollercoaster of casting the less-than-perfect LiLo. "She is today what Elizabeth Taylor was when we were making our movie and I think while there are a lot of people who know Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton and they'll come to our movie."

Linds, we've said it before and we'll say it again: we adore you for this role and think you have that Elizabeth Taylor ‘tude down to a tee.

Here's your ultimate chance for a comeback, babe, we seriously hope you do the Hollywood broad the justice she deserves.

Filming for the flick will begin June 4 and the movie's set to air on the cable network in October.

It was previously claimed that Lindsay was put in touch with Dame Elizabeth Taylor via a psychic. The actress portrays the late star in new biopic Liz & Dick and Elizabeth apparently gave the casting her blessing.

Lindsay reportedly believes that Elizabeth's close friend Michael Jackson - who passed away in 2009 - has also been visiting her.

"Lindsay now feels Michael's presence everywhere. She says it's really weird, but she'll suddenly feel a chill - and a Michael Jackson song will start to play!" a source told National Enquirer.

The two late stars were good friends throughout their lives. Lindsay has reportedly now become convinced they are watching over her and helping her get her life back on track following her legal dramas.

"She believes that Liz and Michael are still close in the afterlife, and are now her guiding angels, warning her to stay out of trouble so she can burn bright again in the limelight," the insider added.

They've begun shooting and the movie should air sometime later this year or early next year.

Lindsay Lohan is all dressed up and ready to take on the role of a lifetime -- and TMZ has obtained the first of photo of LiLo in full Liz Taylor wardrobe ... as she gets set to start filming her new movie.

As TMZ first reported, Lindsay had her hair and cut and dyed to look just like Taylor's classic 'do. The photo is all Lindsay ... no wig, no nothing.

Shooting on the movie starts this week with Grant Bowlerfrom "True Blood" co-starring as Richard Burton.

Lindsay Lohan appears to be a natural to play Elizabeth Taylor if the first official image from her upcoming Lifetime TV movie is any indication.

The female skewing cable network on Monday released the image of Lohan as Taylor and True Blood's Grant Bowler as Richard Burton from the upcoming telepic Liz & Dick.

Production on the effort, which will chronicle Taylor and Burton's romance -- often dubed the "marriage of the century" for its ups and downs and coverage in the tabloids -- started Monday in Los Angeles.

Lindsay Lohan channeled the 1980s incarnation of Elizabeth Taylor for Lifetime's biopic Liz & Dick Wednesday, and RadarOnline.com has the new photo for you.

The Mean Girls star plays the Hollywood icon in the made-for-TV film, which is scheduled to be broadcast in October. It chronicles the rocky relationship between Taylor and her one-time husband Richard Burton. This shot is presumably taken from a point depicting the timeframe around Burton's 1984 death.

"She looks so much like her," film stylistBeatrice De Alba told People of LiLo. "There was a moment when she was [looking] at her picture on the monitor and said, 'I'm her.'

"It was thrilling."

As we previously reported, Lindsay is looking at the role as a shot to reestablish herself in Hollywood again following years of on-and-off work due to her legal entanglements and personal issues.

"I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role," Lindsay said in a statement
