Me too. Been invited to two bbq's, a party and offered a ride to watch some fireworks. Three bbq's I guess, because my family also does one and then drives across town to watch their local fireworks. I'm just stayin' home.

Or go to someone's apartment building where you can stand on the roof, have a cook out, a couple of beers, and watch the fireworks from a great view!

That's one of my options and it's what I was doing for a few years. But the last couple years I'm just not feelin' it any more. Gettin' older I guess. It's mostly about the drinking and I rarely do that anymore. I'm saying all this and I'll probably end up going now.

If we had folks shooting up people would have a heart attack. People already make a big deal when folks water their lawn when it's not their watering day.

Well, really - what's the point this year? The mid-week holiday is just weird. I mean...I have to work tomorrow, so it's not like I can tie one on. Plus, it's going to be over 100 here today. Right now, I'm sitting in my air conditioned house, drinking an iced coffee - and that's where I plan to stay. Sweetie, on the other hand, is out playing golf. But he's nuts, so...

Ya know, I finally caught on to the fact that there's some sort of massive heat wave happening in the U.S. It just hasn't been hot in the Bay Area at all for at least the last week and a half. In fact, it's been below average and we even got some mist falling a few times (where I am, anyway). It's warmer today, but much cooler again tomorrow. So while that definitely sucks for a lot of people (for health and safety reasons) it's not really an issue here.

The mid-week holiday has been a big topic of conversation, though. I know people who took Mon & Tue off, Thur & Fri off, just Thur off, and the entire week off. Since I didn't plan on drinking anyway, again, not really an issue for me. But I can totally see how it, along with the heat, is going to change the usual plans for a lot of people.

Unfortunately, there's still the idiots who will drink all day and all night in the sweltering heat and then set off explosives or drive. So everyone be careful!
