Woody is all about Europe lately! My Legacy

This was shot prior to the release of Midnight in Paris. With the success of that flick, I would think that he'll probably return to shooting in NYC.

With Match Point and Vicky Christina Barcelona (man, I hate that title!) he is on a roll with these euro-themed movies. My Legacy

These are his last eight flicks:
To Rome with Love Midnight in Paris You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger Whatever Works Vicky Cristina Barcelona Cassandra's Dream Scoop Match Point
Only Whatever Works was shot in the US (NYC). Match Point, Scoop, Cassandra's Dream and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger were all made in London; the other three in the cities referenced in their titles.
He headed to Europe 'cause it was easier to secure funding and retain the total artistic control he insists on (he'd had a number of box office duds prior). Match Point and Vicky Cristina made a lot of money and Midnight made a ton of money, so maybe he'll head back to New York.

Woody's films of the 00s are like Prince's albums of the 00s...some minor new classics, ok songs for fans only, and the ocassional embarrassment...

the man needed some fresh ideas after the epic failure of his 00-03 films...
anyway, England, France, Spain and Italy look like natural environments for Woody
I can hardly think of Woody shooting in Escandinavia or Russia, no offence...

I loved Whatever Works and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger! I thought Cassandra's Dream was underrated, Midnight in Paris and Vicky Cristina Barcelona overrated. Match Point did have some commonalities with Crimes and Misdemeanors, but I still thought it was very good.
I find that I enjoy even his lesser flicks (e.g. Scoop - while a trifle - had some good laughs).

Well, he's a huge fan of Bergman and the Russian classics, so I can see it.

IIRC, Match Point was originally set in New York (and set to be shot there). I believe it was only relocated to England when it became apparent that it would be easier to secure funding there.

Loved Matchpoint.
Liked Scoop.
Missed all of the subsequent ones.
Time for me to hit Blockbuster. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
