I think I was 8 when I saw Alien. Mind you, the Incredible Hulk TV show used to scare me.
Shortly thereafter I saw John Carpenter's "The Thing, " Halloween 1, Jaws, Poltergeist, and Yentle.

Oh no. I was mortified by these movies. But, my dad had recently ordered HBO and Showtime, and marvelled at the fact he could watch real, uncensored films without having to go to the pesky movie theater. The fact that his pesky children were being traumatized by these films hardly mattered.
Of course, the plus side was getting to See Bo Derek's breast and Brooke Shield run around naked...When you're 8 years old, that does things to you.

I think I saw Emmanuelle and Black Emmanuelle when I was 11 and a few other soft porn movies that aired on HBO. (Cinemax wasn't even around yet.) I also saw Animal House multiple times, and while I obviously got into the amount of bare tits flashed on the screen, some of the more crude sexual humor took me a few years to sink in.
The only really gory stuff I saw way too young was Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Dawn of the Dead. The first two movies were sort of scary but didn't freak me out that much, but Dawn of the Dead nearly made me puke when I saw it and gave me nightmares for weeks.

Kinda weird isn't it? I still wonder why they let me watch the vampire movies with them. Prince I will always miss and love U.

Where U been dude? Everyone watched porn at 5 years old, just ask Imago. By 11 I knew all porn movies that were around. Prince I will always miss and love U.

Not every five year old saw porn. Remember, I'm an older dude, and we didn't have the internet or 50 pay cable channels when I was a child. Most of the really dirty stuff was relegated to magazines my parents kept stored in their closet. Heck, we still had porn movies being shown in theaters or at the drive in. That doesn't mean I got a chance to see all of it.

Nobody had internet back in the day, the VCR just came in the market when I was a kid, so that was a big revlution. I am even not sure if everybody had PCs, I think we bought some kinda Atari that looked like an alien to me at that age. Prince I will always miss and love U.

Yes but I don't watch porn no more, compared to you watching them 25 hours a day, you are obsessed. Prince I will always miss and love U.

The Exorcist scared the crap out of me. I think I was 12 and my sister was 5 when my aunt let us watch it. Also, It's Alive. That movie was just wrong all the way round.

In the spirit of the thread, I saw my first porn at about 7 or 8. It was called Sex Encounters. I would love to see it again!! My Legacy

Me too. Combine that with only having public television (no cable) and no movie theater within 45 miles and you have my childhood movie experience. I've never seen The Exorcist, Jaws, Porky's, any Friday the 13ths or Nightmare on Elm Street, etc. Parts of Children of the Corn were filmed near where my grandparents' farm was and we weren't even allowed to watch that.
I think part of the reason I *hate* scary movies is because I never watched them growing up. I did watch Scary Movie and I totally didn't get it - because it's all based on horror film stereotypes, which I didn't know about. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I remember one of my friend's parents wouldn't let her watch Three's Company while it was regular viewing at our house. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. Oh damn!
My first porn was honestly on paper. I found some mags in the bushes on the way home from school in the fourth grade and then saw some at a friends house in the fifth grade. Not Playboy, mind you, but the real stuff from the late 70s and early 80s that was really hardcore. I didn't see any porn on video until I was 14 or 15.

I think I saw the Exorcist on TV during the day. So I liked it, but I don't think it scared me too much. Probably a little. My Legacy

I think the end of Carrie scared and scarred me more than just about any other moment in a film, with the possible exception of Kathy Bates' nude scene in About Schmidt My Legacy

Rosemarys Baby
There was a time when my mum and step dad went to the movies every week when I was around 7-9 years old and they loved all the creepy ones.
Now I am a parent I would never take a child to these, so realise how bad it was they took me.
I had many nights of staying awake as a kid. Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜
