Was That Brown Suga Movie The Corniest, Cheesiest, Stupidist

fluffiest bullshit you eva saw or what?? Lawd have mercy on whoever made that movie fa sho barf

I burrowed it from one of my girls, I watched it yesterday and I couldn't bare finishing the movie after watching the 1st hour. I'm like wtf is this all about?? Gawd I hate stereotypical movies(thats the MAIN problem with black movies).

Man, when will somebody bring out something good, different and simple that everybody could relate to like Love Jones??

And why the hell do I see Sanaa and that brutha's face on every black movie in the theaters.

Hell, I guess you could say this movie is the FANCY version of Love & Basketball.

Am I Alone On This??

It certainly could have been better. I didn't think it was terrible, but it was SO surface & didn't really do anything for me. To supposedly be about hip hop, you would think they would have used the music more effectively. And the people were too perfect - everyone was gorgeous & had $, get the fuck outta here. Like a fine ass, unattached baller is gonna woo you by renting out a restaurant & cooking for you, YEA RIGHT... But we gotta have that kinda fantasy stuff too, it's all about widening the palatte. The best thing about it was that kiss up against the bookshelf - oh my... kiss

Thats what pisses me off about black movies yo,,thats EXACTLY what drives me nuts.

Either you're a fluff living in a wonderland or you're a pimp/ho/husler living in the ghetto. What?? Black folks can't be on the middle?? We either too fluffy or too gangsta? Ugh Thats some ignorant shit.

All the shit in the middle gets filtered out before the script is even final, takes a miracle to get one of those made... SAD disbelief

I was really disappointed too...but I had expectations, I wanted LOVE JONES 2...ever since "Love Jones" I've had this guilty pleasure for this type of movie but all the lame variations have sucked: Love & BasketBall, The Best Man...

But seriously, the whole thing about their love for hip-hop showed some promise but it just got down right corny...I just wasn't feeling the "love story," and weren't Taye and Sadanna (or whatever) a couple in "The Best Man."

And yeah, the music was not used effectively at all...

The best thing was the beginning when they are asking the artists when they first fell in love with hip-hop, which honestly, the idea was taken (IMO) from the introduction on De La Soul's "Stake's is High," record.

By the way, whatever happened to Nia Long? The last movie I saw her in was the gay comedy "The Broken Hearts Club."

Thats what I'm saying. If you're gonna make a love story then go ahead and do it, just don't try to act all fancy and shit then say its about hip-hop. What the HELL does the hip-hop have to do with some reporter and a record executive?

Love & Basketball is kinda cute 4 the simple fact that it was different than what out there at tha period. The Best Man get on my last good nerve. And yes,,,Taye and Sanaa were a couple in Best Man. Matta o' fact their faces were on most of the black movies lately.

Nia Long is cool peeps but what I want 2 see is Angela Basset and Pam Grier. Now, these sistas can make some good movies.

Oh man...that would be awesome...a movie with Angela and Pam Grier would kick some major ass...Has anyone ever done a movie version of the life of ANGELA DAVIS (currently reading her autobiography)? I could see either one of them playing Angela Davis...and hell, let's add Nia Long in the mix so she can graduate from romantic comedies to some serious stuff...

Let's green light this project.

4 some reason I can't picture Nia pulling the around-the way-lady like Angie and Pam did. Same goes with Halle lol cuz you know that she's remaking "Foxy Brown" and I don't know if she could pull Foxy becoz 4 one than, she ain't gonna do a betta jop than Pam's,,thats 4 damn sho.

Girl,,you could live without the sistah anyday,,could ya?? wink :p lol

Nia may didn't crossed the red lines like many actresses did thats why they don't take her too seriously. But her movies bring alot of memories "Boz N' The Hood", "Made N' Amercia", "Friday" and "Soul Food".

I didn't see the movie but the title alone sounds corny. References like "dark chocolate" and "brown sugar" and all that kind of stuff would probabbly offend me if I were black. I know being gay I get sick of all the rainbow, drama queen, and diva shit.

I didn't like this movie either, I thought it sucked, I didn't even finish watching it. It's just like all the other movies, I can't help but to feel as if I'm watching the same movies with the same story line to it... where the hell is Spike Lee booty! I want to see movies like School dayz and Do the right thang again, all the hell to Love and BasketBall... Barbershop suck butt too and the only reason why people went to go see it was beacuse of the controversy surrounding it

I don't know about y'all, but I loved Boyz n The Hood okay, I think John singleton should've won a oscar for that, he was played big time for that nod Mennace II society was a classic, yeah it was about the ghetto, but damn Larenze Tate convieced my a** he was all thugged out, not to mention Kane was a cutie patutie, Juice is another classic how can y'all not like these movies, screw the excuse of Stereotypes... it was a good movie

Black people kill me sometimes cuz we complain about these types of movies, but then when there's movies like Antion Fisher we don't go see it sigh So what is a black director/writer and producer supposed to do?

Blood in Blood out was another gansta movie about the ghetto, the only difference about it was about mexican people and not black people so would that mean this movie had stereo types in to?

Boyz was a great film smile too bad John can't make anything near as good these days. Oscar might be a bit much, he obviously had a LOT of help on that one. He didn't need his head blown up like that @ that age, would have fucked him up worse than he is now...

Menace was good, at the time I was convinced it was a classic. But when I look back on it now, I see a strong filmmaking sense, a great actor in Larenz, some over the top extremes in how the life was portrayed, and a WEAK as all fuck lead actor. Dude was cute, but you can't seriously buy him being "ghetto." He slips up too often & seems out of his element, so it really weakens the movie as a whole that he's the lead. sad

Hey, Digital Lisa, I also saw Antwoine Fisher and it was great movie. It would be great to have more movies made with as much class as that.

i liked it...don't get me wrong i don't think it was the movie marvel of our time but i took it at face value for what it is...a fluffy, don't have anything better to do, love story...

wasn't a 'great', 'spectacular', 'left me breathless' movie but it wasn't a horrible complete waste of time...
