May he rest in peace. I loved his movies when I was a kid. Sad to know that he´s no longer here with us.

May he rest in peace, but I've never been able to forgive this man since his role in 1971's "Willard". Nevertheless, may he rest in peace.

I highly recommend viewing Ernest Borgnine's performance in the 1955 movie Marty. [Edited 7/8/12 17:30pm]

And The Wild Bunch.
I wonder if any newspapers will honor his wish:
"As a legacy, on the day I die, I'd like to have a newspaper publish all the things that I find wrong in the United States today. And my first would be to get rid of the politicians. We put politicians into Congress and the Senate for what? For representation. But who do they represent? They represent not only their party, but the people who give them the money, the lobbyists." -- Ernest Borgnine
Truer words were never spoken....

Absolutely. A truly wonderful film - and he is magnificent in the title role. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

TCM is going to do a 24-hour tribute to Borgnine on Thursday, July 26. From TCM...
TCM’s 10-film memorial tribute is set to begin at 6 a.m. (ET) with The Catered Affair (1956). The daytime lineup will include such films as Torpedo Run (1958), Ice Station Zebra (1968) and The Dirty Dozen (1967). Primetime will kick off with an encore presentation of TCM's 2009 special Private Screenings: Ernest Borgnine, an hour-long, in-depth interview with the actor and TCM host Robert Osborne. It will be followed by Borgnine's Oscar®-winning performance in Marty (1955), as well as memorable roles in films like From Here to Eternity (1953), The Wild Bunch (1969) and Bad Day at Black Rock (1955). We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Thanks for this Genesia def gonna tune in!
For an actor who could nail some not so likeable character performances, he seemed like such a sweetheart in all of his interviews.
I remember seeing him quite a few times on QVC with Tova when she was selling her fragrances. They were an adorable couple and his big bright smile was infectious. RIP Ernest

Maybe it was because EB had a reputation as such a lovely and charming man that he was able to feel free to play that kind of character to the hilt. He knew people would know that wasn't really how he was - so he could just dive into it.
I've played some very unsympathetic characters in my time on the stage - and I always have a hard time being unrelentingly horrible. I'm always trying to find a reason for someone to behave badly. I have a hard time putting it down to pure evil - especially if I identify with the character, in any way. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
