Katie Holmes filed for divorce primarily over Tom Cruise's fierce ties to Scientology, fearing that Tom would drag Suri deep into the church ... sources connected with the couple tell TMZ.

Our sources say ... Katie has never been fully committed to Scientology, even though she has had ties with the church. We're told the couple had been arguing over Suri -- that she's now of the age where Scientology becomes a significant part of her life.

Sources familiar with the split tell us Katie is filing for sole legal custody -- as we first reported -- specifically because she does not want Tom to control decisions relating to religion.

Sources who are familiar with the situation have told us that the divorce is NOT about money -- we're told Katie doesn't need Tom's money ... because she has plenty of it ... and will be well taken care of under the terms of the prenup.

There's rumors Isaac Hayes was ready to leave Scientology following the South Park controversy and someone found a way to kill him. I mean I still find it suspicious dude died while on a treadmill. That shit don't sit right... not trying to bring any conspiracy theories but something's rotten in Denmark with that.

Then again I could be completely wrong since other former Scientologists seem to get on with life alright but probably were harassed as you said.

Recently I've seen some parts (youtube) of Tom's 80s films (crappy, for the most part) and it's surprising how tense and uncomfortable he always looked with the ladies

With that said, it seems that Tom's marriage to Katie is ending for the same reason his marriage to Nicole Kidman ended years earlier. I notice the exact pattern but can not tell if the reason is because of religion or human sexuality.

Tom's marriage ended to Nicole Kidman because he was shagging Penelope Cruz. They were carrying on something awful on the set of Vanilla Sky andit was obvious to a blind man sitting in a shoe closet that not only were they getting it on, but that he was ready to dump his wife for her from jump street.

I like Penelope Cruz as an actress, but I saw some behind the scenes video of the the press they were doing in Europe for Vanilla Sky, she was acting like that was her man, or at the very least that she was in the process of making him her man even though he was clearly married. It all looked so disrespectful. I felt bad for his wife. Then sure enough, some months later Kidman was blindsighted with divorce and those other two were all up under each other for the next couple years.

I'm not saying this to go back and forth about Cruise's sexuality and religious issues, rather than just to say that IMO, he left that marriage to Nicole cause he got a taste of that Spanish woo-haha and got whipped. Ironically, though he was clearly the more poewerful of the two at the time, suddenly Nicole's career started taking off the moment they split, she started working her ass of to become one of the finest talents of her generation, and next thing you know was grabbing film accoldaes left and right. I thought it was wonderful justice for the public indignity she suffered with Tom & Penelope gallavanting around like 2 horny teenagers

From what I know from hear say, I think she made a very wise decision. Protecting Suri from crazy sectaric religious stuf is the best thing she'll ever do in her life. Bless her.

I hope she can protect her daughter from that sekt for the rest of her life.

Tom will find himself a new girl that he can lure into that moneygrabbing sekt. He'll be okay as long as he keeps paying his bills to them. They will make him belief he's the best and most wonderful person who walked the earth and that will keep him in the sekt.

It's a very scary sect. I would not be surprised if the Scientologists have something to do with that.

Every journalist who critizises the scientology knows exactly how dangerous that is. And the scientology sends John Travolta to the US political leaders, in order to prevent any European country to take action against the dangers of the scientology (eg Germany). It's scary that the scientology incorporates stars and then SUCCESFULLY have the stars influence politics.

Katie and Surie surely are not save and free from the scientologists yet.

of course shes going for custody- the oldest children were completely cut off from kidman after the divorce and she doesnt want that.
