The hell? This is my first time seeing this preview. Is it playing in select theaters or something? Or it could be because I don't watch a lot of TV.

But Channing is one fine ass white boy. He could def get it.

But as sexy as he is, this film doesn't look like its worth my $10 plus gas and food.

The only reason why I would EVER consider seeing this movie is Olivia Munn.

[img:$uid]http://consciousgangster.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Olivia-Munn-Magic-Mike-Premiere-6.jpg[/img:$uid]

Not just because she's topless in the 1st minute of the movie. Although, it helps. A lot.

When I see the previews play on TV, it reminds me of a male version of that awful "Showgirls" movie. But hey, I'll pay my dollars renting the movie when it leaves the theater's just for the eye candy alone. thumbs up!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Going off previews, a movie so homoerotic but still has shameful dialogue like "It's not what it looks like, OK?" is kind of a turn off. I don't know if I can stay interested for the whole movie.

I've zero interest in seeing this.

My husband and all my boys want to see it, but we're thinking we'll be the only men in the theater going "Holla!"

Supposedly more "Boogie Nights" as opposed to a male "Showgirls" or something completely horrible like "Burlesque"

Getting excellent reviews too.

Man, "Rock of Ages" was horrible.

Now I do want to see it after this tweet from the famous pop author of "Less than Zero"" American Psycho" and "Rules of Attraction"

"Magic Mike is being sold by the studio as something it isn't. It's the darkest movie I've seen about where we are now and masterfully made."

Have you looked up reviews? Better average then Pixar's latest "Brave".

Also,

I liked Soderbergh's last movie "Contagion", and I liked his remake of "Traffic", and also "The Limey". On the other hand I'm not into any of his "Oceans Eleven" thru "Oceans Thirteen". I haven't actually seen "Erin Borckovich". But he is a solid director who tries the left field thing every now and then like "The Girlfriend Experience", "Solaris", producing "We Need to Talk About Kevin", or now, "Magic Mike".

And Bret Easton Ellis always has interesting strong opinions. So I saw that quote and thought it was intriguing from the author of the likes of "American Psycho". On the other hand he did like "Prometheus" which was a bunch of commercial sugar bullshit.

I doubt Steven Soderbergh would write and direct a movie as just a stripper film! Is that a real genre?

(Roger Ebert reviewed it and alluded to a part where a guy wakes up after partying and a dog is eating his vomit.) He gave it 3 stars out of four.

I have a feeling it doesn't get nowhere as drug and crime crazy as something like "Boogie Nights" (you know, the "porn movie"), but probably stays mostly light, since the actor who's recollections its based on is alive and well.

Basically the movie is being marketed as a party movie, but that's not exactly what it is.

And to answer the question that this thread posed, I think the major demographic pulled in initially is women. I was in an office the other day and all the women were talking about seeing the movie. The one gay guy didn't even know what it was. And then if you look at the reaction here on this thread, seems like the gay micro-demographic here has already negatively pre-judged the movie based on the commercials and trailer (which are not usually made by the filmmakers themselves).

Judging from comments by regular folk on the threads on imdb, it looks like they don't get the total light party movie they were expecting, and that straight male audience members (no pun intended) got a more interesting movie than they were expecting.

Despite maybe being slightly misleading, it looks like the marketing knew what they were doing, because this movie is all green at the box office. It's already turned a huge profit.

I'm curious as to how the very quick Spiderman reboot is going to do. There's a lot of movies out there right now that I want to see. But I gots no time.

I saw it. I live in San Fran, so it was an equal mix of Girls and gay men. I went in not knowing what to expect. I don't really find ripped guys like that attractive and was mostly going for the audience participation (not a lot on a Sunday afternoon). We all liked it A LOT! It was really well done. Good script, good acting (Matthew stole the show) and a decent plot.

I say go for the Beefcake. Stay for the story! thumbs up!

Yeah I'm a bit concerned that this is the standard look! I feel bad for the pressure on straight guys too to look unnatural as possible. Maybe that's what Bret was talking about lol

Well at least a lot of them finally got rid of that long flowing hair that made them look like drag queens on steroids. lol

Yeah, I don't know. Doesn't look like my kind of thing. But the reviews for it have all been very solid and have ALL mentioned that it's not what the commercials make it out to be.
