he wasn't always that way. up through his first mini-series (but before he became the "guest-star of the week" in basically any book that needed a sales boost), he was written as a fairly complex character. it wasn't until after he was overexposed and too many writers were getting their hooks in him that he became a muddled mess. the characterization that you describe above is what most of the hack writers used for shorthand so they didn't have to deal with the complexities that Claremont had given him. Totally agree. I will say that I think some of the current X writers do get Wolvie, especially Morrison and Casey. For a while there in the 90s, Wolverine became extremely watered down and two dimensional. storm is and always will be my favorite character. not the "halle berry" storm. i didn't like how they portrayed her as a pouting, beauty queen i agree. totally miscast. i wish they'd gone with the bad-ass mohawked Storm for the movie. the personality, anyway. maybe not the mohawk Iman would have been my choice to play Storm. I've never agreed with 90% of the choices people list (like Grace Jones? Storm isn't manly! Angela Bassett? Not exotic enough). Berry was definitely miscast, no doubt about it. i agree. iman would have been excellent. i think an unknown actress would have also done wonders to the part. that's what bothered me the most about the movie. how the female characters were all portrayed as victims and not superheros. even mystic wasn't as evil as she usually is.

Jean was a total joke in the first movie. By the way... I WANT MARVEL TO DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH ALPHA FLIGHT!!! I don't think there's much chance of seeing the Phoenix saga on film, since the second will be based on "God Loves, Man Kills" and the third is rumoured to center around the Sentinels. That having been said, I totally agree that they should do the Dark Phoenix storyline as a film. Phoenix and Nightcrawler are my faves, so I would love to see it happen (I'm at least getting Nightcrawler in this film). The new trailer looks fantastic. I really think its going to be the best of the fanboy flicks to come out this year. Good point. Thematically, it just wouldn't fit the films. Still, amybe they can show Jean start to develop the Phoenix force within the confines of the films. I think you'll be fairly happy with the new film. From what I've read it appears that Jean and Storm are much more at the forefront of this flick, Rogue sees her powers develop further, and Mystique kicks all kinds of ass. Add in Kelly Hu's Lady Deathstrike giving Wolverine a run for his money, and I think you just might get your fix of ass-kicking ladies! i'm really loving what Claremont is doing with Sage right now. why thank you dear. but don't you mean what I'M doing with him? of course. forgive me? Get a cranium you two. Anyway, I'm gonna have to go with era 3. Claremont really came into his own at this time -- from out of the shadow of Byrne. There were some great stories and character development and such. Although I have to say, I stopped reading after like issue 200 or so. Cyclops left?

What was that one storyline where they went back in time for like two issues to the middle ages or something. (Was it Kulan Gath?) That's the kind of thing Claremont would do, which was so much better than that Secret Wars bullshit. X-edit, bub! [This message was edited Tue Mar 4 21:13:12 PST 2003 by 2the9s]
