The problem with Adobe Flash and net browsers

Honestly, why do certain browsers like to pat themselves on the back for upgrading only for it to act like a piece of shit? I was real tired of all the crashes I got instantly from Flash-adapted video, audio and the like. Still got the Flash in its updated version but it's less a problem when you downgrade though it's still choppy (a little).

Too bad Firefox has pretty hid all its downgrades as ZIP files (same with Flash)... neutral

The downside to downgrading Opera was not seeing Tumblr Savior for my Tumblr. sad lol

I updated my firefox & I've been having flash problems too. Mine sometimes randomly crashes for no reason, & it just started doing it after the upgrade. shrug

I tried Opera once, but I was just so used to the firefox add-ons, So I got rid of it lol.

It just seems that whatever upgrade Flash claims to have, it makes every browser useless...

Also update: I'm actually back at 12 again on Opera.

But being on 12, Flash crashes almost immediately than it would on Firefox (have yet to see it crash there and that's because video and audio play on Firefox is slow as fuck now)...

The only reason I keep going back to Firefox is they have better add-ons. wink

Yeah, Adobe is fucking up if you ask me. Since we're all using different browsers & having the same problem....

Sad thing is they're just as clueless to the problem. I did read folks on Firefox are giving it to them regarding this. I just wished folks on Chrome, Safari and Opera (heard it did alright on IE8 or IE9 or whatever) would join in, then they wouldn't have no choice but to fix it or give us an option to downgrade to a better Flash version. And here they were saying just a few weeks ago: "maybe you need to readjust your memory card".

Some folks here actually told me that. lol

Whoever that Chris Campbell dude is, he ain't helping NOBODY with his suggestions. lol I saw a bunch of his "answers" when Flash video started getting choppy around the time 11.2 came around, he was all like "well maybe you can uninstall it and use an older version". Which would be alright if we could easily replace a Flash version with an old one without going through everywhere to find it on the site. lol Also why act like Flash is doing alright when you know it isn't and forcing people to update. lol

For real. Already Firefox seems to be the one to respond to bug fixes but Adobe's got their head up their ass. lol

I just had to install a NEW update from Firefox [13.1 or something], so I'll see if it helps with the flash crashing.....

Not me. My FF is running like a champ! I'm already up to version 14, though, so maybe that's why.

What version do you currently have? You too, Timmy.

What I don't like is the fact that mobile FF and Chrome STILL don't support Flash, and I have to rely on Android's stock browser for most sites. Get. On. The. Fuckin'. Ball, Mozilla and Google!!!!!! mad

Also, maybe I forgot to mention this, if you go on certain blogs, like on some Tumblr pages, if there's like a lot of Adobe/Shockwave Flash surrounding it, your computer would immediately tell you this:

"Your virtual memory is low."

Or some bullshit. But I doubt it would've been that low if Flash folks thought the upgrades was actually helping with computers' stability. That's why folks are mad at folks predicting HTML5 to replace Flash by 2020. Some folks can't wait that long. lol

Like I said in the other thread...

The issue is recent Flash updates, not the browsers.

I was problem free with Flash for years until their most recent updates. Now it crashes several times a day, which is up from one time a day.

Firefox is asking me to update to 13, is anybody using that version yet? I may have to try it just to see if they wrote in some Flash fixes.

------------------------------------------------------

The back of my brain is still trying to tell me that there's a way to allocate how much virtual memory Flash is allowed to use. I know that's some geeky stuff, but I'm pretty sure you could get rid of that problem.

How much physical memory does everyone have? I've got 8 GB and I've never had any of the other problems I'm hearing about. No choppiness or other issues. I just started getting Flash crashes after their last couple updates. At first I got the block head error, now I get a popup error that I can cancel. If I cancel it and hit play again, the Flash keeps working. confused

Almost an hour later...

I've found a bunch of fixes and adjustments you could make. Let me stew on them and do some cross-checking.

Have you upped your Virtual Memory yet? That's not the fix I'm trying to find, but yours could actually be set really low. If you've got some extra space on your hard drive you should try upping it.

Something like...

  • Right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties."

  • Select the "Advanced" tab and then click "Settings" in the "Performance" section.

  • Click the "Advanced" tab and then click "Change" in the "Virtual Memory" section.

  • Select "Custom Size" and enter an initial and maximum virtual memory size greater than the current setting. This will increase the size of the Windows paging file, resolving a common problem with Firefox virtual memory usage.

It's a little different getting there with Windows 7, but you end up in the same place.

I did that. Ironically, if you decrease its size, it increases the dick's actual space. If you increase it, it'll eat it up. That's why I stopped fucking with it and put it at a respective number.

I've actually had less problems doing that...

I did the increase but it didn't work. neutral

Oh and it's not with Firefox 13.1, it's with Opera 12. Especially when I go to some Tumblr blog pages or go to 10 or more videos, that's when it'll show up. So I figured the solution was not to play a lot of Flash.

Can you use a Flash blocker with Opera? I use a Flash blocker with Firefox that works EXTREMELY well. It just puts an extra play button on top of everything running Flash. So when you go to the page it doesn't load until you hit play. That might help on those pages with a lot of Flash going at once. But I know ZERO about Opera, so I don't know if that would work.

I don't know if Opera even has it. That's why Firefox wins in terms of how many apps it has because you can use it for anything. On Opera, some of the apps you use works for a good month then stops. Opera don't really give you options, all it can boast about it is it "runs faster". That's about it. neutral

The sooner that thing is axed out of the world wide web the better.

It's not that Adobe's products suck per se, but their update schemes certainly do. I have to go over to my mother's place every few weeks just in order to get the "latest versions" of Acrobat and Flash installed, because she doesn't understand English and it's too hard for her to navigate through their multi-page update installers. Sure, their products have been translated over into pretty much every language in the world, but they forgot to translate the update pop-up windows.

I don't know why there would be an immediate need to update Flash just because it's needed for video and sound. They're always rushing in the updates and they're patchy as hell. When I read the various forums on the Internet I constantly read things like "I was having problems playing videos on Youtube. It turned out to be the case that I had two versions of Flash installed." How the fuck is something like that even possible?

Using it together with Linux isn't that great either. I haven't bothered to update it for about a year myself. Thankfully, only sites like Myspace and entertainment news sites require for you to have the latest version at the moment. I'm already fearing the day Youtube will force me to install an update. The biggest problem is that Adobe assumes everyone uses the most common sound and video drivers and if you happen to have something meant for media production installed it means trouble.

I feel ya. I don't think Adobe quite understands the folks that use their stuff. This is why people can't go on assuming just because one could adjust to updates don't mean everyone else can. They need to either slow down the updates, let us downgrade to a more comfortable version or just leave it alone or they'll gonna get people boycotting their products just because their update crashed their computers.
