A comedy I helped make is On Demand for free... check it out if you dare.

2 years ago I helped a young filmmaker, Andrew Edison, shoot a feature length comedy with a budget of pizza money. The cast and crew (outside of me) were all only high school kids. It was Andrew's senior year, and he was able to make this as a final project for his film class.

I usually make my stuff look as fancy as I can, but Edison wanted to keep this thing raw, with no lighting, and a slightly shaky improvised style like "The Office". He WANTED it to look cheap and raw.

He was filming shit that me and my friends would never have been allowed to back in my high school days. His parents were completely supportive... they thought all the staged meth smoking, hookers, drinking, and sex with homeless people was just as funny as the kids did. I just went along with it and trusted him (we had collaborated before on some comedy horror short films that went over really well). I had no idea if "Bindlestiffs" was going to come together, but I helped him shoot it, color correct the awfully cheap looking footage, and I even played a role in the movie as a pimp.

Cut now to a few years later... the film got into Slamdance 2012...

There, despite a couple of offended walkouts, the rest of the crowd LOVED IT. We heard that people at fancy Sundance parties were talking about it.

And then it won the Slamdance audience award for best feature film…

... and then Kevin Smith saw it and loved and and bought the distribution rights (it's kind of like "Clerks" in some ways, except these kids were younger)…

Cut to today… It's available for free On Demand under All New Movies. Not the HD section, just the regular section so far.

I can't believe this thing has come this far for how cheap and rough it is. Good writing and fresh content really can favor an indie movie over production quality and fancy effects. Sure Kevin Smith is putitng his name up top and people are going to think he had a role in the production... but I guess you got to bend over to get ahead! Actually I've very briefly met Kevin Smith now, and he seems really cool. We had a two sentence talk about Prince (who hired him years ago to shoot stuff for a doc).

holy shit… a little homemade movie had gone far when it's on sale at Walmart online:

This movie is offensively dirty... I can't believe it's on the Walmart site.

Let me know if anyone watches it, it's free.

It's not my personal baby, so if you hate it I'm curious to hear your opinion.

I think my friend, the director, Andrew Edison is going to be a famous filmmaker.

I won't take it personally if you don't like it, I just helped out a lot. I'm working on my own first feature film, and it's getting close to being finished. and its a completely different animal to Bindlestiffs. I've been working on it for 5 years now.

And a warning about Bindlestiffs... it is lofi... and it is NSFW. These are kids that grew up on "South Park" not Bugs Bunny. Bug Bunny is classy.

It's free On Demand, I think it cost to rent it other places.
