Finale for "The Killing"... wow

That was just powerful. I loved the finale. It wrapped up everything so well. And so deserving of having spent two seasons following your protagonists, the victims, the suspects, the drama for two seasons.

I thought it was really well done. Not to mention some of the best acting by the two leads on television.

How can stuff like "Rock of Ages" or "Prometheus" keep coming out in terms of ineffectual characters and scenes when you have incredible examples of good writing and acting and characters in these series like The Killing, Mad Men, Breaking Bad... etc.

That's hard to say.... TV Shows have a long time to give there characters meaning, story etc.

That is why story driven shows like Mad Men, The Sopranos, The Wire, The Shield, Breaking Bad, The X-Files etc. Are so good and get a huge fan base...

The characters get to develop so much and you see there flaws, strengths, weakness & tumbles. In movie you can to... but it is less time spent with someone. So sometimes you never get a full feel of a character...

Well that's just my 1.50 lol

SPOILERS (Sorry!)

I really, really like Holder and Linden but I didn't like the finale. How did Rosie run through the woods with a major head injury? How did Jamie get her into the trunk? He's a LITTLE DUDE.

Jamie told Richmond he would do ANYTHING for him and then about five seconds later he told Richmond he was a grade-A creep because he slept around on Gwen and let his drunk wife get behind the wheel.

Who put the picture on Linden's refrigerator?

In my opinion there were lots of things that didn't add up but I will probably watch next year, if there's a third season, because I just love the banter between Linden and Holder (and I love Holder's one-liners).

You didn't warn people about spoilers! lol

Those plot points you listed arent what I thought was so powerful. The show was kind of not about the details of the plot for me and my girlfriend. It was about whether or not Linden was going crazy, whether or not the family was going to get an emotional and satisfactory resolution, and most importantly was Linden ever going to realize that her own little family needed to take the place of her career, she needed to move on and start that phase of her life.

Because the show concentrated on filling out those elements and other more emotional thematic arcs of characters over the mystery plot details, I think a lot people got thrown off. The other episode that was my favorite was the one where Linden thought that her son was missing. It was so emotional. People seemed to no like that this episode didn't even push the Rosie mystery plot forward. But they ignored that it completely pushed Linden's character plot forward in an intense way. People didn't seem to understand that the heart of the show was not in the mystery plot. It was in the emotional arcs of the characters that the old school mystery plot contains.

And for me the biggest thing I enjoyed was the intensity of the acting. And that acting peaked when you had them all in the room confronting the sister. Those 2 lead actors were the best. There's so much little detail in the performance in their faces. Everyone knocked it out of the park with their performances in that finale. Including Rosie! And it was so cool to have had two seasons of this absent ghost of a character, Rosie, and then finally spend time seeing her as a live character in the flashbacks. that was a great choice.

I do realize this is a remake of a European show. I wonder how the orginal plays out.

But on those mystery plot points you brought up, these could be considerations:

1. Lot's of people get major head injuries in real life and are still aware on mobile as long as they didn't get critical brain damage. People have even shot themselves in the head and survived.

2. Jamie was established as a spastic short fused guy by the scene in the gym lockerroom where he tries to go ballistic on the mayor's assistant guy. And Rosie was a small girl. Still smaller than him.

3. Jamie was responding to the thickening look of condemnation on Richmond's face who looked at him as if he were an insane murderer. He defiensively was trying to say they were still similar.

4. I don't know who put the picture on the fridge. I could look on a The Killing message board and find out if there is an answer.

Some TV series now have the depth of novels. It's so great!
