‘Basketball Wives’ The Movie?

'Basketball Wives' The Mo...V Magazine

May 08, 2012 12:00 PM by Shayla Perry

Are Evelyn, Royce, Tami & company coming to the big screen?! No, but their story lines might be! Boss lady Shaunie O’Neal is taking her hit VH1franchise to Hollywood with a fictional Basketball Wives movie. What’s the premise? Find out all the details after the jump.

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before….

The movie “centers around a young woman who follows her boyfriend to Miami after he gets drafted into the NBA. Thrust into the world of professional sports, she meets the other players’ wives and learns from their trials and tribulations.”

Sound familiar?

Yes, after four seasons (and a spin-off not really worthy of mention), Shaunie O’Neal is bringing her Basketball Wives to the big screen…sort of.

Though we wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the show’s cast members were given cameos — or even roles in the film, O’Neal says that the movie is pure fiction.

Co-producer Tracey Edmonds promises that the Basketball Wives movie will have characters with “rich story lines and although juicy and action packed, it’ll empower!”

Hmmm… Is it just us? Do the words “Basketball Wives” and “empower” really go together?

Tell us, are you excited about the Basketball Wives movie? Which story line(s) from the reality show do you hope to see played out in the film?

Will Former Miss USA Kenya Moore Be The New RHOA Housewife? Plus NeNe’s Sitcom Pilot Gets Picked Up & PHOTO – NeNe On Vacation With Gregg!

Will Former Miss USA Keny...eality Tea

With She by SheFired now officially retired from Real Housewives of Atlanta, andMarlo Hampton (hopefully) deemed to trashy for the show after her reunion scuffle with Kim Zolciak, the rumors are already starting to fly about who the newest cast member will be.

RadarOnline reports that former Miss USA (and ex-girlfriend of Terrell Owens), Kenya Moore is at the top of the shortlist to join the show. The only snafu in the plan – Kenya just moved to Atlanta! She advertised on Twitter that she has just relocated to the city of peaches from Detroit! “Gorgeous day ATL. I love being n country hearing the horse whinny next door juxtaposed w/ the gunshots from shooting range down the street.”

Kenya would be an interesting addition to the cast and she would definitely find herself on Team Talls, being 5’10. She is an actress, a shoe designer, and an author – so she already fills the requirement for product hawking. Oh – and she knows how to attract attention for being scandalous. Kenya reportedly released a fake “how-to” sex tape to promote her book, Game Get Some! What Women Really Want.

Moving on, it seems NeNe Leakes has officially crossed over into the mainstream. The Housewife, who has been starring in Glee, recently shot a pilot for Glee creatorRyan Murphy‘s newest sitcom, The New Normal. Well, luckily for Ms. Leakes NBC has just greenlit the series set to air this fall, according to The Hollywood Reporter! NeNe will have a recurring roll on the show which chronicles the new idea of blended families.

And speaking of NeNe – didn’t she tell us she was di-vorced? Interestingly, NeNe and supposed ex-husband Gregg Leakes were spotted getting cozy on vacation in Miami this past week. NeNe did say she wasn’t done with Gregg! Perhaps Brent had a school trip to the beach… The photo of NeNe and Gregg on vaycay is below!

OMG, you can't be serious. The show is a dumb downer in itself, to make this mess a fictional movie is insane. Shaunie is just milking the cow.

Anyone catching RHONJ these days? If not, you aren't missing much, a bit of the same ole' same ole'...

Teresa constantly feeling like she's being ganged up on by Melissa, Kathy and Caroline.

Other family members interjecting their unwanted opinions, comments and "bad" jokes regarding the always tense situation between Teresa, Joe Gorga and Melissa.

Caroline constantly giving her UNWANTED opinion on other people's situations and just basically being an old bitch. Caroline just need to focus on why she keep putting her sons ahead of her daughter and then saying "while my daughter is very beautiful she does need to lose weight" rolleyes Wow some comment to make. According to the blogs on the Bravo site, apparently Lauren has lost weight, I don't know if she's reached her goal yet or not, but they said that she's in a "happier place" with herself and now has her own beauty business.

I absolutely enjoyed the scene when Rosie was watching all the kids while the adults went on the boat for a few hours. lol They drove her to smoking and drinking. Hilarious!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Ok now, I hopr marlow is not on the show...I do not like her fakeness and attitude. I dont even like watching her. Too gutter and plastic. Like she just there to start ish.

Kenya Moore ay? We going to see how she do. I'll welcome her in what the heck. I dont know a thing about her. Kim need to be on her A-game this season because I was ready to call it a wrap...boring the heck outta me. Most of this past season she just spent avoiding everybody..which was fine because she got a new life now, but she should not have really been in the show much in that case.

IMO, the next season will more than likely be either or both NeNe and Kim's last one. As a viewer from day 1 of the show, the past couple of seasons has been downers, with this last LONG ass one being the worst season ever. The one person who kept me in tune and dying laughing was Phaedra. I used to really like Kandi but as of now, I'm on the fence with her, I don't really dislike her, but she's not my favorite either. shrug Even though I loved it when she shut Marlo's fake ass down on the reunion. clapping If they are really adding Kenya Moore, then her presence alone will put the G in Green-eye-monster as far as NeNe is concerned. Her attitude gets worse and worse with each season as her popularity increases. disbelief

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I absolutely enjoyed the scene when Rosie was watching all the kids while the adults went on the boat for a few hours. lol They drove her to smoking and drinking. Hilarious!

Rosie is the only one that is real, relaxed and laid back on the show! You know everybody has that one Auntie that had to run after every one of her nieces and nephews' little asses, and eventually when they got tired they would have to go have a drank and a cigarette because those bad ass kids wore them out. The only difference is (unlike Renee from Mob Wives) and every other auntie out there Rosie didn't curse the kids out and have them to sit their asses down somewhere (remember when Renee went off on everbody's kids at that girl's night gathering? That mess was funny as hell and brought back many a memory of mean old aunties chasing bad ass kids into the street evillol

More than anything else for this episode, what stood out for me the most is that Teresa is crazy as hell and delusional to boot...with a pinch of desperation thrown in for good measure. I go back and forth between feeling bad for her acting crazy out of survival/defense mechanisms vs. her getting on my damned nerves for just being bull-headed, jealous, and insecure to the point of wanting everyone to think their lives are as miserable as hers. She needs a combination of hug/pimpsmack therapy, but you know that that hard headed heffa wouldn't dream of accepting either one. rolleyes

OMG, you can't be serious. The show is a dumb downer in itself, to make this mess a fictional movie is insane. Shaunie is just milking the cow.

Milking the cow while she shows up less and less on the show, and leaves it to her close "friends" to make fools out of themselves for big ratings, even bigger advertisers, and an even bigger paycheck for her as executive producer.

I think after Shaunie showed her ass one season ago trying to bully Gloria Govan it had such a negative effect publicly that, being that she really is rich (from her divorce settlement) and is making her moves as a power player in tv and now Hollywood, it really didn't look good for the store to have her getting down and dirty like "her girlz" . Shaunie has too much to lose via the circles she's traveled in and became a part of to get her hands too dirty like the rest of the BB Wives. However, she can exploit till the day is long if she wants to. For me Shaunie's pimp. But if Evelyn and Tami are willing to be her bottom hookas then that's on them. I just know that I encourage everyone that if they watch the show, watch it bootleg and make sure Nielson gets none of your ratings evillol

Girl me too!!! My opinion of her gets flip flopped so damn much I could make a pancake out of it. Seriously. It's like one moment, I'm in that mind frame I had at the beginning of the last season, that Teresa was getting bullied and picked on by her sister-in-law and cousin who were trying to make names for themselves on reality TV, but then Teresa will do something crazy dumb, or have a few lies fly out of her mouth that will have me agreeing with Melissa and Kathy's point of view. Next thing you know Melissa and Kathy be talking so damn much about Teresa, its almost like they are obsessed with trying to MAKE her see how wrong she is all the time that I end up getting back on team Teresa. nuts I was pissed with Teresa Sunday night anyway when she flat out lied to the Donald on the Apprentice that Arsenio didn't do anything in their task..then he called her ass out and when Arsenio calls your ass out, he CALLS YO ASS OUT ya hear me? hammer He made Teresa basically eat her words, then she ended up doing that wishy washy, second guessing talk she does rolleyes Urgh.

I don't know. I think the fact that I still root for Teresa once in a while is because I love the fact that no matter how much shit people talk about her, she still shows up smiling and in her most fashionable attire as if she isn't fazed.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Lawd this show! I don't even halfway watch the whole episodes because honestly, Bravo need to get a clue and hang this franchise of Housewives up on the wall with the RHODC. I'm thinking the reason why they keep it running is because it was the original that started it all. Shucks, RHOBH makes the RHOOC cast look like they pick up welfare checks.

As far as Vikki's bf goes, she's just on the rebound from her divorce. This guy is so transparent, you can see the cobbwebs he has for brains. When he was trying to get all deep with her kids on the first intro, I could really understand their frustration. I feel the same way about my own mother's bf. lol

Overall, the show is basically a big ole' bore.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

spit Yeah in a way Shaunie is definitely pimping them broads out:

-She shows up in episodes whenever she wants to.

-When she does show up, one of her bitches ladies are quick to meet with her to fill her in on what's been going happening on the track scene.

-She makes sure to stay completely out of conflicts, only straddling the fence, lightly taking a soft position while avoiding whatever drama is going on for that week.

-At every birthday party, a newbie is required to give a speech thanking her for being gracious enough to pick them to be on the payroll for the show invited to the party.

-Trips are planned to purposely set up a big throwdown/confrontation between the bitches ladies.

All the while, Shaunie still gets a big fat paycheck while the bitches ladies are on contract and literally have to negotiate for a raise...upping the drama a couple of notches and picking a castmate to bully while looking like a poor role model for your kids as a grown ass woman who is out of control with her emotions. rolleyes

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

For all the raving Teresa has done about her "Juicy Joe" all thsese years, I'm kinda sad for her that he's become such a mean jerk and is so disrespectful to her on national television. Although she has a lot of her own foolishness to blame on how bad her relationships are going with family and friends, I think it#s also very clear that she's projecting a LOT of her own misery onto everyone else (i.e. the stuff she's saying about Joey & Melissa) INSANE! shake

Uh I just co-sign the skorpion show and muchluvfromky YT reviews on BBhoes show. I'm sorry Tami is super wack for going in on someone whom she feels she can dominate. Why is she worried what Keisha (sp) has to say when clearly she feels she can wipe the floor with her. So no matter what this woman has to say it could never be with the same energy as someone whom she feels is her equal would have to say.. Bitch PLEASE..... All that does is show how insecure, inadequate and insignificant she feels as a human being. Get with your therapist and work on your issues with your momma rolleyes

disbelief That's so sad. And I bet these are grown women being cheerleaders like this too. I don't mean no harm but the last episode really has turned me off. Truly. While there are so many movements out here in this day and time about bullying, we got shows on television that are portraying this very thing! I know I just started watching this coonery show this season but now I'm officially DONE watching it. I'm not going to even begin to watch how Tami will hold Keisha's purse HOSTAGE to make her confront her. That's just plain ignorant. Then to belittle her because she's going to RIGHTFULLY call the authorities on her and report her purse stolen because Tami won't give it back is just plain ole' childish and insane. Umm hello, that is ACTUALLY intentional theft Tami. It really irks me when folks call themselves enforcing that bogus "stop snitching" bullshit.

As for those who feel that Tami and Evelyn are "keeping it real"...umm "keeping it real" can go wrong. That.is.all.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

The worst thing about this episode is how bad it made everyone feel. But it's my own fault. I mean after Evelyns "non-muthafuckin factor" stunt, Tami charging after Jen in a drunken rage, Tami going upside Meekah's head and Nia slapping Jen in a do-everything-I'm-told silliness even a seven year old wouldn't subscribe to, what the hell did I expect?

Tami is the worst kind of person, a desperate, broke woman with no boundaries who will do ANYTHING for money and celebrity.

But the saddest thing is that while I'm done with the show in my heart, there's a part of me that wants to know how she got her stuff back. Did Tami sober up enough to pound on Keshia's door demanding she open it and talk? Did Keshia just have it up to hear and let Tami have it? But the smart thing to do is cut out now. The question; will I?

disbelief That's so sad.

Either one of the girls will give Kesha her purse back or after Kesha calls the authorities, then Tami gives her the purse back. Judging with how Tami felt about the whole Jen "snitching" on Nia to the court system, I don't think Tami will come to her senses.

The only reason why I have watched week after week is to see if anyone, anyone will come to their senses and start acting like real women, but week after week, I'm disappointed and the views on the show are those of 15 year old little girl minds inside 30-40-ish year old womanly bodies. Similar to what you said, it's my own fault as well. And after I feed my curiosity and the episode for the week is over, I'm wreaked with guilt for even watching this mess because I feel like I'm condoning the foolish behavior by watching.

And to think that some female viewers out here are modeling themselves after these hookers is insane....grown women with kids at that. rolleyes

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Mine to watch is Mob WIves. I think this is the last season as Drita & Karen will let bygones be bygones so the show can proceed on to Chicago. Chi Town get ready for the drama.

Just watch some ripped dvr'd copy online instead, so Shaunie and Co. don't get any of your money

Okay that sounds terrible I know.evillol

To be honest, if the show ever left the air, I wouldn't miss it. Btw, it seems like the boycott Star Jones began against the show's negative portrayal of black women is picking up steam:

‘Basketball Wives’ Lo...t | EURweb

‘Basketball Wives’ Losing Major (Advertiser) Support

Are you a fan of EURweb? Like us on and Follow us on

basketball wives (season 4 cast)*Anti-fan protests against VH1’s “Basketball Wives” are finally making headway with their campaigns.

Summer’s Eve, a feminine products brand, will no longer advertise on the program, the protest campaigners proudly claim on Change.org. Before the week is out, a second sponsor could ditch the reality show as well.

But the refusal to sponsor also includes Evelyn Lozada’s “Ev & Ocho.”

“Basketball Wives” is also losing support from fans who claim to be worn out by the constant cat fighting and negative portrayal of black women.

Ratings have dropped from 2 million viewers a few weeks ago to 1.75 million last week. That’s a 12.5 percent drop.

Anyone catch the Mob Wives season finale tonight?

I have to say it was pretty pleasant to watch. Drita and Karen finally buried the hatchett, I guess the real question is for how long? lol

I loved watching Big Ang and her son get tattoos. It was such a bonding experience. cool Makes me almost want to get another tatt myself.

Renee and her son AJ doing the bumper car thing was pretty fun too. I loved the look he gave her when she said she needed to bring in a "spiritual cleaner" to clean her house of evil spirits. lol

I had to spit when they had Drita and Karen meet in the "made men" room. spit

Let me tell you this, Renee maybe the drama queen of the show, but her ass was workin' that hot pink dress at the dinner. Girlfriend was fierce, loved that jewelry and make up too. nod

Now as for the reunion next week popcorn Now THAT IS A MUST SEE hammer

I have to say, out of all the bullshit reality shows I watch, Mob Wives is the best one in my book. At least there are SOME pleasant scenes to watch and you don't see them beating each other down week after week and picking "teams" like they are in high school. Say what you will, but I take Mob Wives over BBWives and RHOA any day. At least after watching Mob Wives I don't feel like I want to slap a bitch. Now will I feel the same way about Mob Wives: Chicago? hmmm I don't know, them broads look a bit rough and mug ugg.

RHONJ.... spit

Okay first off, the first 5-10 minutes was hilarious!!! Joe Guidice had me rolling..."forget about the bitches; Caroline, she's freaking boring; ole' horse face (Melissa); your brother is bitch, his name should be Josephine" falloff falloff falloff

What was up with Jacqueline's personal trainer? Was her ass drunk? OR were they setting it up to make it seem like she was drunk? Hot ass mess!

I like that the Manzo's are a strong family unit, but they bore me to pieces. bored2

To me, Kathy still playing hard to get into Caroline's and Jacqueline's good graces for some odd reason. Why? She was so pissed when Caroline and Jacqueline cancelled on her party, shucks, she should had been happy. I could do without Caroline's preaching and Jacqueline's impulsive need to interject herself into the middle of conflicts that don't concern her. Richie, urgh, instigator anyone?

Okay this is what has me on the fence of deciding whether or not I should continue to watch this week after week, this family conflict bullshit needs to be mended. RHONJ used to be pretty fun. The parties, fashions, etc. Now it's the Gorgas vs. Guidices merry-go-round show. I mean don't get me wrong, when Danielle's nutty ass was on there, I couldn't wait for her to leave, but goodness, sometimes I feel the show has gone from bad to worse. shrug

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I'm still waiting for the Mob Wives finale to show up online.

For everything that happened this season, I have to say my favorite part about the show was the addition of BigAng. She's such a cartoon character and she doesn't take herself seriously at all. We just have to keep her off the damned plastic surgeon's table! Although I will admit I had to laugh this season when she had her girlfriend over and was cooking up Lord knows what in the kitchen, complaining that she was due for some surgery- and when the friend said no you don't she shot back, "Oh YES I DO!!!!" falloff She knows damned well she need to stay outta the doctor's office, but she's so playful about life and just doesn't give a damn. She seems like the happiest person and the coolest out of all these broads, even though she looks crazy as hell. She embraces all her own crazy with laughter and that's not so bad. She also won extra points with me last week for talking about coooking dinner that included neckbones. What's not to love there??? lol

Celebrity Apprentice Spolier Alert:

DING DONG THE BI---, I mean WITCH is DEAD!!!! eek

I knew this young woman was going to go very far in this competition, she was the whole package. But what she didn't understand (I suppose due to a low emotional intelligence quotient) is that talent, ability, drive, and intellect are nothing without grace.

The steam is picking up against BB Wives. Although I will point out that after the fight Tanya refers to in this article, the cut the physical drama out of the LA version of BB Wives (from the episodes I saw), and the tensions were different, and less ghetto (if that's even possible in a show format like this). I will likely leave BB Wives Miami alone, but BB Wives will have some promise to deliver drama without people stomping barefoot over tables and throwing bottles a lá Jerry Springer.

Tanya waas edited out of the season in the first 2 episodes of BB Wives LA, I think.

Ex "Basketball Wives" Cas...ck America

Ex “Basketball Wives” Cast Member Tanya Young Says: “Being On Show Was Pure Hell !

Tanya Young was an original member of Vh1′s “Basketball Wives LA” and says it was pure hell!

In the last few days, we have seen protests, petitions and complaints that the Basketball Wives franchise encourages poor esteem and horrid reflections to be cast on Black women. Now comes word that working on the show was horrible.

We posted this letter in response to the poor behavior we saw in Evelyn Lozada: An Open Letter To A “Basketball Wife” Who Has Not Changed!- Revisited

Tanya Young, a member of “The Basketball Wives LA”, told The Daily Beast that old emotions were awakened when she received the latest petition boycotting the show.

She said, “My knowledge of the inner workings of Basketball Wives stems from my role as one, in the inaugural season of Basketball Wives LA. Though I was cautioned against participating in the series, my intention was to change the perception that wives of basketball players are flighty, overly emotional, and senselessly dramatic. I wanted to show interesting aspects of my life and also bring attention to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, for which I am a celebrity spokesperson. But as the proverb goes, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” And working on Basketball Wives was sheer hell.”

She wanted to be clear that theshow was not airing just to portray the lives of basketball wives.

Tanya explains,”Within weeks of taping Basketball Wives LA, there was a horrific fight between two cast members while we dined at a swanky Santa Monica restaurant. They argued and eventually fought over who was a “rat” versus a “hoodrat,” who was sleeping with a married man, who was the real bitch, who was fat, and whose teeth were “jacked up.” It was a surreal moment. I was paralyzed by shock and anger. I sat motionless as the women fought over my head and producers worked to break up the melee. However, the cameramen never lost sight of their target: the fight. They captured every moment, from every angle. The footage was the guarantee the producers needed to bait their audience during teasers for the premiere of Basketball Wives LA. As the women pulled out pieces of weave, called each other names, tore each other’s clothing, and struck each other in the face, the producers struck ratings gold—and they knew it.”

You can read the rest of her least favorite minutes and behind the scenes details by visiting the dailybeast.com.
