There are endless magazines covering the demise of the TomKat marriage (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes) and they all seem to focus on scientology as the reason for the divorce with a few suggestions of infidelity here and there.

What I don't get is why you would divorce somebody whom you already knew to be a scientologist, whom you already knew to have bedded some of the hottest women in Hollywood and whom you already knew to be a gigantic star and possess a gigantic ego AND whom you dated for a year before getting married.

What the hell could have possibly changed for her? SHE HAD IT MADE!!!!!!!!!!! I don't get her and I think she is among the dull tools in the shed. I would have stayed my ass right there...scientology and all!

There's no way to know what exactly went on, but one thing I read was that Tom wanted to send their daughter away to the Sea Org, which is a scientology school, and Katie was not having it.

No one knows what she dealth with behind closed doors. Could have come down to protecting her daughter from certain things.

Who knows, celebs are no different the rest of us.

Oh, I don't know. My guess is Tom Cruise makes a pretty big first impression. As cheesy as he is, he has a lifestyle that must be pretty attractive. That can last for a while, but a few years into marriage, and things are just not looking as great as they used to--just like any relationship.

She's been in the business a long time. Shouldn't she have realized that the intial shine would dull over time? She couldn't have been so naive to think that the honeymoon phase would last forever. At some point you realize that you still have it better than most couples or most women in relationships.

He's cheesy but I think he's always been that way. He's a serial monagamist so at least she had the benefit of knowing he wasn't going to leave her any time soon.

She probably didn't think it would last forever, but when a relationship goes south, the thing that seems to save it is either compromise, or just sucking it up and living with the things you hate about the other person.

I don't think Tom seems much into compromise, and I don't think most famous actresses will just suck it up and deal with it.

You know how it is with actors. They buy into something 100% and act surprised when it doesn't work out. And they do it over and over again!

She didn't want to renew her beard contract and decided to get out and save her daughter from the crazy cult that wanted Suri. I think she pulled this PR coup off wonderfully. She came out of this with major cred.

She's also getting about 50 million in the divorce settlement. Allegedly. I guess that's cool but I'd rather stay married and have access to the half billion. What if he dies? She will have missed out on a major settlement. 50 mill is cool but it aint all that!

But for real though- sometimes people change or grow in different directions that simply no longer accomodate one another's dreams, goals and, desires in a relationship.

I also take into consideration that she married relatively young. When I was her age I didn't know what the hell I was getting into either when I got married. In retrospect, all I saw was dreams and stars and my gorgeous husband through rose colored glasses. It took me a few years to realize that we were horribly mismatched with not a thing in common outside of work: and while we certainly weren't wealthy or famous by any stretch of the imagination, we had created a life in our own little corner of the world that was not without it's own perks and advantages, which I walked dead away from once the union was finished with no problem at all. Why subject oneself to the toxicity? New love doesn't begin that way, but after some time, if you find that your dream has evolved into a 2-faced, 8 limbed snarling monster trying to devour itself, it's time for you to get the hell out of it before it really ends badly.

If a marriage is bad and puts a woman in a soul crushing place...naw...there is no amount of money and having it made in the world that would keep me in a union that is not life affirming, I don't give a damn how much money and power is involved, I'm out , and I would never advise another woman to subject herself to that either.

I have no idea why they broke up, but if Miss Thing came to a place a awareness where she realized she is simply in the wrong place that can be of spiritual, emotional, and/or psychological danger to her and her kid, then by all means, GET.OUT. She can make her own money, and is popular enough where she can still hold her own in the media. I say press eject, put in a new program, and keep on keeping on.

I dunno. Tom sho is cute and got all that bank. Maybe she should have upped the volume on his e-meter and put him into a catatonic state. Still married and still extremely wealthy but without the drama.

She's using scientology as a reason to have full custody. But I don't blame her.

I have no sympathy whatsoever for Ms. Holmes.

She dated him, converted for him, married him, had a baby by him.

I tend to go the "contract" route with her. There's no other excuse for the STUPID decisions she's made as a grown woman concerning this marriage.

Blame Tom all you want but man does what the hell he wants and won't change because of public discourse. Scientology might be everything people say it is but truth be told no one gives a F!ck about scientology. After all who's gonna join? It's quite possible that she met someone else that she fell for. From what I understand she and Tom Cruise didn't spend too much time together at all in their daily lives.
