What are the best cities to live in based on your experiences

May be looking to finally leave my city (Chicago) in a few years. The political corruption, high taxes, and racial segregation have finally worn be down.

What are relatively progressive cities that are worth checking out?

Thanks in advance fam.

Do you want to move out of the region or the Mid-West period?

I prefer college towns.

Ann-Arbor Mich

Berkeley, California: My daughter attended university there, she loved it and so did we.

Austin Texas

If you want to stay in the region Michigan City, IN; the South Shore can get you back into the city if you need a jolt of excitement.

I've only lived in two cities - Madison, WI and Springfield, IL. Springfield sucks. Madison is pretty cool.

I looooooooooooooooooooove Minneapolis. I think the Twin Cities are probably the best place to live in the world. For me, anyway. Big enough to have all of the positives of a city (art, music, culture, food), still small enough to avoid a lot of the negatives (lower cirme rates, pollution, traffic, etc.). Socially progressive and liberal (republicans typically don't even get on the ballot for Minneapolis city elections) and a lot of civic pride (Minnesota has the highest voter turnout rate in the country). And tons of greenspace! And the best city for bicyclists. I could go on and on.

I could also live in San Francisco and Seattle.

Sweetie and I love visiting Minneapolis. It's part of his territory, so he's there a lot - and I go with him at least twice a year.

My visits go back to the 60s, since my mom's brother and his family live there. When I was six, my mom took me to the downtown Dayton's to buy my clothes for first grade. After that, we went to a Chinese restaurant called the Sampan (no longer there) and I felt so special when they brought my food on a covered dish and lifted the lid. touched

I'll never forget when the Mary Tyler Moore show first aired, my mom said, "Look - there's Dayton's!" I always felt a special "in" with that show because I'd actually been to Minneapolis. lol

Anyhoo, yeah - it's a great city. We love spending time there. Especially a late breakfast at Cuzzy's. drool

Do you have a lot of income? I loved San Francisco when I visited, but I hear it's one of the most expensive cities in which to live in the country.

I am really fed up with cold winters nod. I have no idea how nice Minneapolis might be, but I would not want to live in such a cold city. Mine gets cold enough in winter confused.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Minnesota and North and South Dakota have the worst winters in the U.S. The best moderate weather in the states is on the Pacific Northwest coast. Seattle, Portland and San Francisco bay area, for example, have weather all year-round where it isn't too hot or too cold. Maybe an unusual amount of rain, but that's it.

I haven't lived in so many places, so from my childhood Lucerne Switzerland I remember a lot of RAIN, but awesome scenery, xenophobia and haze across the alps.

The country town I grew up in was dull, temperate climate and did I mention dull? yawn

Melbourne - it's nice, when people complain about traffic here I laugh, these people haven't ever experienced TRAFFIC! Food here is good, galleries, we have all that shit. It's by the water and all, BUT the weather here right now is horrid, windy and raining, and that's what we can look forwards to for the next 4 months confused Houses are poorly insulated and I spend my time wrapped up in a polar fleece rug.

I'm the mistake you wanna make

San Francisco is expensive but you can live outside and commute in for the entertainment.

Stockholm. Then again that was a long time ago.

Definitely not London. lol

Helsinki is okay and that's where I live currently, but the rent rates are pretty terrible.

I love these cities:

1. Bangkok (it's insane, and the people are entertaining as hell)

2. Singapore (expensive, and completely plastic, but reminds me of Orlando FL lol )

3. Tampa, Florida. I could go on for ages about this city, but it's really just perfect.

4. Bournmouth, England. I'm not sure I could live there a long tmie, but I'd love to spend

a couple of years. there. It's lovely.

5. Cardiff, Wales. Same as above.

6. London, UK. Expensive as hell, but a really nice city. The fucking world class museaums are

free too! lol

7. New York. I spent a few days with cborgman on-and-off (he had to work). I wish I was

in a better mental state, because he was such a sweet host. It's a lovely city, with great

people, and wonderful places throughout.

8. Soule Korea. They're Asian. They're sexy..They're circumcized. 'nuff said lock

9. San Diego. Lovely town. Great places to see. The beaches sucked compared to

Floridian ones, but the weather is amazing.

10. Munich, Germany. Just a really, really lovely city. Great night life too.

Lawd. I could go on. In general, I've loved many of the cities I've visited. The only

ones that left a negative or no impression on me were:

1. Dallas

2. Columbus

3. Newburn (NC)

4. Frankfurt (Germany)

5. Swansea, Wales

6. Nashville Tennesee

7. All the cities in Alabama

8. Biloxi Mississippi

9. Los Angeles

10. Las Vegas (fun, fun place. But it felt like visiting Disney World--not a city)

11. Tijuana

12. Miami Proper (South Beach is FUN...but same as Las Vegas for me)

13. Houston and San Antonio

I would love to visit more of Europe though. I haven't been to Poland,

the Netherlands, Spain, or Italy. All places I want to see.

I wish traveling was easier and time/money more abundant. lol
