AUSTIN, Texas (AP)The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency is bringing doping charges against seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, questioning his victories in those storied cycling races. Armstrong, who retired from cycling last year, could face a lifetime ban from the sport if he is found to have used performance-enhancing drugs. The story was first reported Wednesday by the Washington Post. The charges from USADA come just months after federal prosecutors closed a two-year criminal investigation of Armstrong without indicting him. Armstrong maintained his innocence, saying: ''I have never doped, and, unlike many of my accusers, I have competed as an endurance athlete for 25 years with no spike in performance, passed more than 500 drug tests and never failed one.'' http://msn.foxsports.com/...ong-061312

A lifetime ban on a retired athlete?...Way to stick it to him USADA!!! [Edited 6/13/12 14:31pm] Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

They waited until AFTER he retire to lay down the 411 on him yet they harass Barry Bonds for the same thing while he was still playing baseball.
Yeah good job guys. Good job.

Ok lets all say it together so that it is firmly understood: AINT NO SUCH THING AS A SUPERMAN!!!
Alright? We should have known from the giddyup that Lance was dosing. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is that strong nor has that much stamina to win the tour year after year after year. Wouldn't be at all surprised if the drugs had a side effect that caused his cancer. Jus sayin'. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer. ![]()

There was actually a rumor that the pills he was taking to enhance his energy/body definitely gave him cancer in his balls.

now see dat! damn shame. I believe it to be true. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

The real shame is why it took until he retired to investigate. I think he's been retired for a while too.

They just need to let it go and leave Lance alone.

My understanding is that what cyclists do is basically a complete blood transfusion. They dope up, then drain their blood after a race and replace it with un-doped blood.
Man, that is intense. | |

I'm wondering about that

This story has been going on for years and they never found anything. Why would they find something on him now he's retired?

Ride with Ironman Lance ArmstrongDoing a triathlon race is hard, grueling work. Imagine the amount of time and effort it takes to swim 2.4 miles, then immediately hop on a bike and cycle for 112 miles, and finally, to top it all off, run a 26.2-mile marathon. For most “weekend warrior” athletes, competing in the triathlon is a faraway dream. But for those athletes who complete a triathlon, there is always another goal on the horizon, such as the holy grail of triathlon competitions, the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. The Ironman World Championship is the pinnacle of these competitions, held annually since 1978. Due to limited space and increasing demand, the World Championship race is only open to athletes who have competed in a series of qualification races held throughout the world. Luckily, for those of you who were unable to qualify for the World Championship for whatever reason, you can bid on today’s remarkable find, the Ultimate Kona Ironman Exp... Armstrong: This event has to be the ultimate adrenaline rush for any triathlete. Not only are you guaranteed a place at the Ironman World Championship, you get to meet and train with professional cyclist Lance Armstrong. Here are the details, from the listing:
There are a couple of things to remember when bidding for this experience. First, should you win, you can either compete in the Championship or give this spot to someone who may value it more (and perhaps be in better shape?). Second, if you decide to compete, remember that this particular course is very difficult. Here is a description from the Ironman website:
I don’t know about you, but biking through “scorching lava fields” does not sound like the Hawaii vacation I’ve been dreaming of, and it is certainly not for the faint of heart. But it is all for a worthy cause; 100 percent of the final sale price will support LIVESTRONG. This Lance Armstrong foundation inspires and empowers people affected by cancer. The organizers believe that unity is strength, knowledge is power, and attitude is everything, and provide the practical information and tools people with cancer need to live life on their own terms. So if you believe “anything is possible,” get bidding and get training — you have about 121 days until the event starts! After all, even though it is race, it is finishing that matters. As the Ironman mantra states, just finishing the race is victory. Are you (Iron)man enough to try?

Seriously? Cured from what?

I've said it before and I will say it again; I don't believe he is still HIV+.
I think he's been cured, not to say he's in some type of remission but rather, there is no HIV in his body anymore and I think it has something to do with tranfusing the blood. It has to be something high tech that only a person of his means could afford. Wouldn't surprise me if he was taking yearly trips to Europe for medical treatment as IMHO they are more advanced than the U.S when it comes to medical technology or experimentation.
I know its not a popular opinion. No one wants to believe that there are cures for diseases like cancer and viruses like HIV and that only the wealthiest and well connected have access but to believe otherwise is just being naive. There are people in this world who will have the best of everything and that includes the advantages of medical science. I firmly believe that if they have stuff to make you sick, then they have stuff to make you well. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

A lot of young men get testicular cancer. My guess is all those hours on a bicycle seat can't help things, though. My Legacy

I think that is not quite right.
Doping is not about drugs, it means you remove red blood cells at an earlier date, and give yourself some before a race so you have a higher concentration of red blood cells My Legacy

Mr. Bonds was never investigated by the USADA; he was called in front of a grand jury to testify about his involvement with the Balco company. Later he was indicted on perjury charges. Mr Bonds was found not guilty on all charges except one... an obstruction of justice charge. Which if memory serves me right, had nothing to do with steriods or wasn't related to steriod use. I find it ironic the Feds supposedly made a sophomoric error -- presenting inadmissible testimony-- which resulted in Roger Clemens perjury case being declared a mistrial.
If Armstrong cheated during his career, they should've busted him then. It's not like those suspicions hadn't been around for a long time and the respective anti doping governing bodies stalked the man, never tested dirty. Sadly, politics plays into who's charged or if you'd like to say who's harassed by the powers that be. Mr. Armstrong is correct, anti doping agencies had 25 years to catch him do something and they didn't. If I were Amstrong, I wouldn't respond to any more accusations... this has turned out to be nothing more than a whispering campaign.

I was just comparing what was going on with Barry.

I wish it was as simple as switching out the blood etc, but that's not quite how HIV works.
Now, if they have cured him some other way, I don't know, so I can't say. "Aren't you even curious? Don't you want to see the dragon behind the door?"

OK. We should be clear who investigated who because USADA doesnt' have the criminal power like the Fed's do.
As far as Barry keeping his mouth shut...
Bonds could've invoked his fifth amendment rights or he could've accepted the goverments offer of immunity. Still, if Bonds had invoked his fifth amendment rights, the Feds could've given him immunity anyway. Bonds may have thought his options put him between a rock and a hard place; so he answered grand jury questions to the best of his ability.
If the people testiyfing against Mr. Armstrong are those who allegedly doped with him... in my opinion this stinks to high heaven. I forgot the guys name, the American who won the Tour de France a couple years ago got busted for cheating than cried... Amstrong cheated too! Yeah, its fucked up.
