Gosh... so many things to put avacados in... I love them in an omelette, on sandwich's, as guacamole, but my most fave way is mashed and covered in fresh lemon juice and salt and pepper drooling

an

Sliced on toast with pepper. Gotta say I've been burned by a lot of bad avocados - too fricken' hard or brown and overripe - but a perfect avo is so good.

I love them just out of the shell, on anything really! My Dad used to smash them up and eat them with milk and sugar. I didn't care for it that way.

If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

As a Texan, guacamole is one of the five food groups.

There's this commercial that runs all the time down here about avocados from Mexico. Their jingle is, "Avocados from Mexico!" sung with a Spanish accent.

The Spanish word for "lawyer" is "abogado". When the "Avocados from Mexico!" commercial comes on, it kind of sounds like they're saying "Abogados from Mexico!"

So I always get this mental image of Mexican lawyers overrunning the court house.

Mexican food, to me, is just about perfect. So avocados are a crucial part of that perfect blend of ingredients.

I love them, but aren't they kind of high in cholesterol? My dad used to slice them in half, take out the seed, and then pour French dressing over them. So good! My office mate says she puts them in her smoothie made out of strawberries and yogurt confused , heh, whatever floats her boat, but I've never heard of mixing avacados with fruit or dairy. Funny thing is, guacamole? I can take ir or leave it. Give me some fresh lightly steamed asparagus any day with butter and lemon, and I'll slap yo mama! lol

No, avocados are not high in cholesterol. They are high in fat. But it's a good fat.

I have a recipe for avocado ice cream. I haven't made it, though.

I can eat them like an orange, take off the peel and eat.

I used to eat the big ones with a smooth skin like that and I don't like the smaller ones with the rough skin for some odd reason.

The bigger ones are juicier to me.

I eat these as a sidedish to most of my food on a plate just plain. Love em' and can never get enough of them.

Hold the avocado in the palm of your hand and gently press on the inedible bit of stem at the top with your thumb. If it has no give - not ripe. If it give easily and starts to sink into the avocado it within the ripe range. If it sinks in quickly and easily chances are good its past ripe. The best choice is one that's gone past light green into the dark (even very dark) green range, but is not yet black, and has a slight give on the stem test. Never squeeze or push on an avocado.

nod I like 'em both. But yeah, two totally different fruits. Now there's a third, smaller kind that's readily available around here, too.

We have Grocery Outlets around here and they pretty much ALWAYS have avocados for between 50 and 70 cents because they're imported from countries where they grow all year. Avocado season is every day for me! lol

If I'm already out and about I will stop by there to just buy some avocados. lol They are absolutely the only thing I buy that way. At Safeway, Lucky, Nob Hill and Whole Foods (the other grocery stores around here) they range from $1.00 on sale to $2.49 regular price.

Yes. if they don't have anything else, they'll have bags of avocados! They're usually the smaller, rough-skinned ones. I've never bought them because I know they would rot before I would be able to eat them all. They don't keep in the fridge, do they?

this is strange because i am in australia. the reason why i eat em is not just because they taste alright, but because they fight all kinds of cancer and as a vegetarian it's just on the menu. make an avocado salad with tomato, salt, lemon juice and olive oil. i like guacomoli or in a dip. also plain with lemon juice and salt.

"who need the exercise"..lol
