Arsenio Discussing New Talk Show with CBS Distribution

*Back in the spotlight due to his “Celebrity Apprentice” victory, Arsenio Hall is said to be discussing a return to the syndicated talk show circuit.

Nellie Andreeva reports:

I hear Hall has been in talks with CBS TV Distribution about a project that also may involve Tribune. There are no deals in place but if conversations materialize, Hall will likely film a presentation. CBS TV Distribution declined comment.

Hall mentioned a desire to return to late night during the media blitz following his “Celebrity Apprentice” win a week ago

A deal with CBS TV Distribution would mark a reunion for the company and Hall. His syndicated late-night Arsenio Hall Show, which ran from 1989 to 1994, was produced by CBS TV Distribution predecessor Paramount Domestic TV.

Arsenio is my all time favorite talk show host besides the late Johnny Carson & Jimmy Fallon . I use to attend Arsenio's talk show all the time.....Glad he is making a comeback...

He said on Wendy Williams that even though he retired in a good place and had his life set up well, doing a show was the thing he missed most. His kid is now 12 and growing up, he has more free time on his hands, so I guess he went out there and made it happen. Good for him! That was a fun show and he was a great talk show host!

He had a great show back when it was on the air but a similar type show to his old one in this day and age would be boring as hell. Music is full of shit hop and TV is full of reality shows. There's certainly no interesting guests he could have.

That was said when he started in 1989. Then he debuted TLC to everyone and they sold 10 million albums. Not to mention the countless other acts he helped launch. It is still unknown talent out there no one has ever heard of... That will never make it on American Idol or the copycat shows...

WE NEED ARSENIO BACK!!

I disagree 100%. Even though mainstream music isn't that great and watered down, there are still some great artists out here, like Robert Glasper for example, that would make great guests on his show. That said, I can't wait for him to host another talk show. thumbs up!

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

WE NEED ARSENIO BACK!!

When Arsenio was on the air with his talk show, he was booking guests no other talk show would touch. Johnny Carson was still catering mainly to the aging WWII and Silent generation, David Letterman, while becoming hugely popular and much hipper than Carson, catered mostly to the Baby Boomer crowd, and the talk shows by Alan Thicke, Joan Rivers, and Pat Sajak all floundered. Arsenio was the first talk show host to regularly book metal, hip-hop, and dance acts, and he consistently booked the hottest young talent out of Hollywood and the sports world. In fact, the ratings for Arsenio in a lot of markets across the country outdrew everyone except Johnny Carson and Nightline (and he occasionally beat Nightline on slow news nights). In fact, Arsenio was riding high until Jay Leno replaced Johnny Carson after his retirement, who then co-opted much of Arsenio's look and style, as well as his guests, and the final death blow came when David Letterman landed his own talk show at CBS. In most of America, Arsenio Hall aired on CBS affilliates, who were looking for something fresh of their own to air against Johnny Carson and Nightline. Once David Letterman got his own show on CBS, Arsenio was bumped back into the wee hours of the early morning after Letterman, and his ratings slumped as a result.

While I loved Arsenio when he was on the air, I'm not sure how he'd do in today's late night environment. Back then there were only a few choices for late night TV; now you have a glut of options, from Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O'Brien, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Chelsea Handler, etc.; heck, people even watch reruns of Bill O'Reilly and Rachel Maddow that aired earlier that night. So I'm not sure where he would end up.

If I watch an hour of TV in one average month, I'd be surprised. I'd definitely give this a try, though.

The final death knell came when the Fox afflilate stations that carried Arsenio Hall's show opted to air Chevy Chase's Fox network talk show at 11pm (that show was crap and didn't last very long).

I do remember Arsenio's feud with Leno, he threatened to kick his @ss. lol I know he and Leno are buddies once again, but maybe Arsenio should've warned Conan a couple of years ago. lol

Hey...

This would be awesome to have him make a comeback and hopefully stay on the air. Sad that a dud like Jimmy Kimmel can have a show for way too long but Arsenio can't? Bring Arsenio back!!!!

Now I watched the arsenio Hall show. But Arsenio Hall has to be one of the worst talk show hosts of all time. Why? Because he would ask a follow up question that had just been answered from the guest in the previous statement. It's like he's not paying attention and is thinking up a question when oops, it's Arsenio's turn to speak.

I'd still give it watch though.

By the way the worst talk show host of all time is Magic Johnson. Although Sheila E. and band was tight!

I remember loving his show back when I did watch TV, and enjoyed late night television.

I also remember when Queer Nation was on his show and he told them to leave and not distrupt his show. Within a few weeks of that I also noticed that he made a real effort to include gay and lesbian guests on his show, which back then was 'risky'. So, I appreciated that even though he was pissed that people took these tactics, he still wanted the greater community to know that he was 'trying' to be inclusive.

Plus, he had some really big name guests--I mean, Prince did two full featured performances on his show, and it's my opinion his D&P appearance (and his MTV buttless pants appearance) helped to ship more units of D&P than it deserved. lol

I'd give it a try, though I think the magic might be gone. There's a time and a place for all things. I'm not sure Arsenio can recapture the glory days.

Then again, Ellen came back with a vengance.

Yeah I agree. I like Arsenio but I wonder if he can make a comeback when now there's so much more competition because at the time of his show, only Letterman and Leno were on the air. Now he's gotta compete with Colbert, Stewart and literally hundreds more media outlets that exist now compared to the early 90s. It seems like that would be tough for anyone, let alone a black man trying to make it in a genre of entertainment almost exclusively dominated by white males. It will be tough but hopefully he'll do well.

At least on Arsenio's show, there will be NO pre-recorded tracks and NO lip-syncing at all. All musical guests must perform live OR they will never be on stage at all.

Because of THIS^ alone, I would love to see Arsenio get another talk show.

Arsenio Hall Interested In A Talk Show

Fresh off his win on Celebrity Apprentice, Arsenio Hall is finally moving forward with a return to television. According to Deadline.com, the former late night star is in discussions for a new talk show. Y’all ready?

Deadline.com reports:

Back in the headlines after his recent Celebrity Apprentice win, Arsenio Hall is mulling a return to the syndicated talk show circuit. I hear Hall has been in talks with CBS TV Distribution about a project that also may involve Tribune. There are no deals in place but if conversations materialize, Hall will likely film a presentation. CBS TV Distribution declined comment. Immediately following his Celebrity Apprentice victory a week ago, Hall spoke publicly of his desire to return to television in a more permanent fashion. A deal with CBS TV Distribution would mark a reunion for the company and Hall. His syndicated late-night Arsenio Hall Show, which ran from 1989 to 1994, was produced by CBS TV Distribution predecessor Paramount Domestic TV.

For those of you who don’t remember, here’s a taste of Arsenio in prime form:

I remember the QueerNation episode too. Man was he pissed off.

It will be interesting to see how he does if he comes back. He still looks the same and he still has his comedy chops so it may be cool. I just hope they give him a decent time slot.

Maybe he'll have his old buddy Eddie come on and sing some tracks off his new R&B CD...(insert joke here).

Let's not forget that what tanked his last show was having on Farrakhan. The right wing killed him.

Arsenio has done the media malange (is that a word?), he is obviously wanting to come back.

What he should do is mix good black acts, with black guests, also the usual white folk, but the show should be ecumenical.

Just as the Roots are helping Jimmy Fallon, Arsenio needs to have a hip, interracial band.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!
